Week Five
[Last week, you had your very first minor body pileup! Granted, the Balladeer's death was entirely unrelated to anything, but at least he died as he lived - getting completely fucked up in some kind of carnival-themed hellscape. Only two days later, another terrible accident took Rina and Varian both from you. It's just been one of those weeks, huh? At least you got to add both of their corpses to your weird growing collection!
Again, you'll wake up this morning with another new snippet of memory. You'll also find that the stairs in the lobby are no longer blocked. You can only access one part of the second floor, but it seems like there's some neat stuff up there!
Outside, a few things seem to have changed. For one, the weather has turned - it'll be overcast this week, with periodic rain and even scattered thunderstorms. For another, the bushes around that rock out by the football field have bloomed. That's nice.
Get to it, friends! I'm sure everything will be fine this week!]

WEDNESDAY
The Foreign Language Club is meeting in the library at 3 pm! Anyone who shows up at that time will find that the entire room is decked out in the flags of a few dozen different countries! Attractions here include:
- Treats from all over! The food quality is better than what’s in the kitchen and much more multi-cultural than you’ll find on the weekly menu. Know a culture? There’s a snack from it here.
- Books! There are so many books laid out and propped up, all at varying learning levels from beginner to fluent.
- A pinata! It’s awfully cute but looking at it you feel like there’s something else you should be doing and this owl knows that particular sin. Better smash it and get that candy!
Also, seeing as this is the foreign language club it does come with a special little quirk: upon entering the club room, if your mother tongue isn’t English, you will default to only being able to speak in your native language. Do you only know English? Congratulations! You’ve automatically learned a random new language and can only speak in that. Have fun!]

She does come downstairs after awhile, considering going into the library. That consideration is hastened by the fact that she can see, on the table, a circular cake. Baumkuchen. She starts to take a step forward but -- That owl. She stops short of the threshold and stares back at it. Look, she's Real tired of knowing animals. And even if she wants that damn cake, she can't trust this room on a Wednesday. She's heard the stories.
With perhaps a single tear in her eye, she turns her back on the cake and heads back to the storage room.
Later in the evening, as the sun begins to set, Maya begins making several trips up to the roof. She has bundles of blankets, spare sheets, snacks, and all the pillows she can find. She's even dragged a mattress outside but... now that she's here, she's staring up at the roof and wondering how the hell she's going to manage this one.]
Closed to Peregrine and Janis
She has vending machine chips laid out, some various drinks, and even a bottle of wine? There's also a Bud Light Straw-berita. Look, she had to get rid of it all somehow. What better way than an unsupervised teenage date?
All that's left to do now is sit with her legs draped over the edge of the roof and... Wait.]

I don't think it's gonna happen.
You guys don't have any animals I need to babysit, right? And no, Janis' deer does not count.

It's when she looked at the menu earlier this week that she remembered it. Yesterday, actually. The little dates. She wasn't sure if she should do anything about it, but—
No one deserves to be forgotten.
So! Before the meeting, Peregrine can be found in the teacher's lounge. She's got one of her completely treated pieces of deerskin leather, but instead of fitting it into a cloak, like the others, she— she's cutting it up? In very specific ways, and...braiding it. There's a whole bunch of thread, braided into cords sitting out on the table, presumably for practice. She's been at this for awhile. Very quietly, she hums as she works.
And after? She's in the kitchen, with a recipe book from the library. It's open to a page on...apple cakes? ]
Okay. Okay, okay, okay. How do you know what apples are tart...?
[ She's. Really trying!!
At some point at night, before it's time for her to meet Janis and Maya, she stops at the ofrenda in the lobby, carrying a somewhat lopsided apple cake complete with nineteen lit candles. ]
So, um... I don't know if...you can hear me here, or...anything. But— ...I remembered. I wasn't sure what you'd like, and it's my first time baking without...without my mom, so I probably screwed something up, but... Here. I hope— somehow, maybe, you can...see it.
[ She sets down the cake carefully. ]
...And— here. [ Alongside it, she places a medium brown corded leather bracelet. ]
Happy Birthday, Connor. ...Miss you.
Teacher's Lounge
No. She... she can't think like that. She can't just assume there will be one more murder this week. So she pushes those thoughts away, moving closer to examine what's already strewn around the table.]

After the meeting she checks out the Foreign Language Club and immediately starts speaking Japanese. She really should have learned from the Mime club incident. Oh well, at least the snacks are good, and Bruiser is once more enjoying himself. It's a good thing Elle trained him with the combo vocal commands and hand signals!
Later on, just after dinner time, Elle can be found in the library pouring over more law books. Several are marked up with post-it notes and there is a notebook under her right hand filled with elegant pink script. The books are all focused on criminal law, specifically murder.]

Private for Farrah, Spongebob and Discord (eventually)
He smooths down the front of his vest--taken from the costume room like all the others and a little more dramatic than what he would normally pick, but this one specifically had been Farrah-approved. At the end of the day, he does trust her judgement with such things, which is why she's also been the one to take care of not only his makeup (dramatizing his normal black eyeliner with a winged tip and gold accents) but also his nail polish (adding some flair to his normal plain black with a gold glitter top coat.)
Salieri almost feels over dressed. What if it's too much. What if this is all too much???
He swallows, glancing at the other two people in the photo studio room as he moves to fuss with one of the forks at the table settings for lack of anything else to do]
And...you're both sure this isn't too much, correct? [this might be at least the third time he's asked]

Library Investigation
But she'd agreed to investigate the library, and that's what she planned to do today. She'd gotten there a little early, so she's smack dab in the middle of club stuff! Specifically, before the pinata has been attacked. Her brows furrow, head tilting to one side, and she turns towards the nearest person.]
"What is that?"
[... Well. That's what she thought she said. But to anyone else, she sounds very much like some kind of old-timey viking - because Elsa is now currently speaking Norwegian.
Later, after the snacks are eaten and people begin to disperse, Elsa lingers in the library, trying to kick off her investigation. She starts off simply; pulling books off shelves, one by one. She'll examine the covers, the names listed on the checkout slips... just a quick skim to see if anything's off. She'll check the shelves behind the books too, to see if there's any sort of hidden messages and switches there.]

When she does get Elsa's attention, she points to the circular cake.]

Investigation!
After a moment, anyone still in the room will hear her hiss out a breath:]
Of course that's why it says I built a tower...
[Anyway, before the meeting, Cassandra has ventured outside to the courtyard. After the freak weather a few nights back, and the even more worrying messages from it, Cass isn't too ready to return to the woods. But that's not why she's out here anyway.
Owl, her trusted companion, is perched on her right arm, watching her as she eyes the skies above them. She's checking for signs of thunder and lightning, and once that seemed to be checked, she looks back down at Owl...]
Okay. Like we planned. Okay, buddy?
"Hoo!"
[One quick movement and Owl launches off Cassandra's arm and up into the air. Climbing, higher and higher, higher still... Up into the skies above the school to get a bird's eye view at their surroundings and what might lay beyond the forests and corn.
And after all that? Hours later, into the evening, a quiet, childish voice breaks the empty silence of the courtyard.
"I love you, mama!"
Followed by,
"Ugh, hopefully that will keep her out of my hair for a little while... Lousy little pest."
Neither of which are Cassandra's voice, and yet... here she is, sitting at the bottom of those long stairs, silently staring into a mirror that seems to be making noise all on its own.
Her envelope, still unopened, rests on the ground beside her.]

So she wanders out into the courtyard after dinner, and... almost immediately spots Cass. She opens her mouth to speak, but then she hears the voices from the mirror. The happy voice of a child, the sickly-sweet voice of a woman... which then turns cruel and bitter.
Elsa bites her lip, eyebrows furrowing in confusion and worry as she waits for the vision to finish. When it does, she finally speaks up.]

[But apparently the siren's call of the photo studio was finally too much. She's hauled a large number of costumes up there and, frankly. She's working it for the camera. If she's discovered or interrupted-]
Oh, good, you're here. Adjust that light a little, the camera's on a timer and I can't get to it. Thanks.
[Later on in the Foreign Language Club- she's there. Trying different foods, flipping through a few of the books mostly disinterestedly. And giving a slightly wide berth to one platter that contains what appears to be a selection of overly sweet candy and baked goods but also what brief inspection will reveal to be actual lumps of coal, a pile of unpeeled hardboiled eggs, and a small pile of entire raw fish on ice.]
[...She's at least made an effort to kind of. Shove the fish out of sight behind the coal and eggs.]
[And during and after the club meeting, once she realizes what's happened-]

Now, she's staring in utter befuddlement at the camera setup.]
