Week Five
[Last week, you had your very first minor body pileup! Granted, the Balladeer's death was entirely unrelated to anything, but at least he died as he lived - getting completely fucked up in some kind of carnival-themed hellscape. Only two days later, another terrible accident took Rina and Varian both from you. It's just been one of those weeks, huh? At least you got to add both of their corpses to your weird growing collection!
Again, you'll wake up this morning with another new snippet of memory. You'll also find that the stairs in the lobby are no longer blocked. You can only access one part of the second floor, but it seems like there's some neat stuff up there!
Outside, a few things seem to have changed. For one, the weather has turned - it'll be overcast this week, with periodic rain and even scattered thunderstorms. For another, the bushes around that rock out by the football field have bloomed. That's nice.
Get to it, friends! I'm sure everything will be fine this week!]

(( Be sure to submit your memory regain and your AC for this week! As always, Hester's office hours and the merch booth remain available. ))

I would certainly hate to steal your thunder. Survivalism can be your schtick.
[She meanders her way over to the fort proper and settles down. Her arms open wide for whoever wants to get in on this action first.]
no subject
[ She's joking, probably, but also. ]
Anyway, guess the thing to do is get cozy.
[ And she will, graciously, take the cake to let Peregrine head into the fort second. ]
no subject
Peregrine scooches into the fort, taking a seat next to Maya, close but not—too close. It's kinda dark but she's close enough for both of them to see her slightly flushed cheeks. ]
So... Okay, what do people really...do on dates?
no subject
[Maya does spot those flushed cheeks, but she doesn't say anything. It does make her blush in kind, though. It's nice, to know that Peregrine is affected by their presence. She does rest her hand in the space between the two of them.
In the meanwhile, she picks up a pillow and holds it up for Janis. You know, to entice her over. Maya wants to be the sandwich today.]
My experience with romance was repeatedly dancing with the same woman and proving myself better than her, so...
no subject
Well, as both of you now know, I gave up completely on the idea of dating when I was thirteen, and am currently the only out lesbian I know at my school. Hard to go wrong with just hanging out and chatting? At least for starters.
no subject
Chatting sounds good. I mean, you'd definitely be better than me at dancing but I'd probably just...step on your feet the whole time.
no subject
[Maya rests her head against Janis's shoulder. She also gives up at all attempts at subtlety and reaches over to take Peregrine's hand.]
That sounds like a challenge to me. I think the two of us should be able to whip you into shape, actually.
no subject
I mean yeah, that's not a bad idea. This would be a fun place to dance, and nobody's gonna be able to judge you if you fall over or whatever.
no subject
[ Peregrine takes Maya's hand nevertheless! But oh, aside from the campout this might be the most flustered you've seen her! ]
no subject
"There is no such thing as breaks from practice." That is what my parents always taught me.
[She holds a hand out.]
You don't dance?
I know you can
no subject
Oh, it's time to tease Peregrine, okay. ]
There's a chance, yes
If we can do this, well, then you can do that
And then you'll dance
Hit it out of the park
[ ... she couldn't think of other lyrics for that line, maybe, it's fine. ]
no subject
Peregrine waves her free hand back and forth. ]
I don't dance—
I mean, I can't.
There's not a chance, oh!
[ Wait, if she sings along this becomes a whole thing— ]
Maya, Janis, noo, this isn't going to be a thing, it's fine, the- the roof's probably wet, that's a safety...hazard...?
[ ......is she shy?? is she just shy??? ]
no subject
[Maya's expression smooths, mood sobering just a little. She keeps a hand extended, but at least she looks a little less teasing about it all?]
Take my hand, take a breath
Pull me close and take one step
Keep your eyes locked on mine
And let the music be your guide
no subject
Won't you promise us?
no subject
Now won't you promise me
That you'll never forget?
[ Tentatively, she takes Maya's hand. ]
no subject
[She pulls Peregrine closer, so that they're face to face and she can rest a hand on Peregrine's hip.]
Please keep dancing...
[She glances at Janis, smiling as she does. Just say the word, and she'll trade off.]
no subject
[ Nah, for right now she's here to provide accompaniment while you get things started! ]
It's like catching lightning
The chances of finding someone like you...
no subject
It's one in a million,
The chances of feelin' the way we do...
no subject
[Maya steps forward, coaxing Peregrine with her. Then she slides to the right. It's just a simple waltz for now, nothing too terrible. She glances up at Peregrine, just to make sure that she knows she's doing well.]
We just keep on gettin' better
no subject
So can I have this dance?
Can I have this dance?
no subject
[ Peregrine reaches her hand out to take Janis's, stumbling only a little. ]
Take my hand, you take the lead,
And every turn will be safe I see.
no subject
Don't be afraid, afraid to fall
[She steps back, allowing them their moment.]
no subject
You know I'll catch you through it all.
no subject
And you can't keep—
no subject
She picks up where Peregrine's voice lapses.]
A thousand miles can't keep us apart
