Week Five

[Last week, you had your very first minor body pileup! Granted, the Balladeer's death was entirely unrelated to anything, but at least he died as he lived - getting completely fucked up in some kind of carnival-themed hellscape. Only two days later, another terrible accident took Rina and Varian both from you. It's just been one of those weeks, huh? At least you got to add both of their corpses to your weird growing collection!

Again, you'll wake up this morning with another new snippet of memory. You'll also find that the stairs in the lobby are no longer blocked. You can only access one part of the second floor, but it seems like there's some neat stuff up there!

Outside, a few things seem to have changed. For one, the weather has turned - it'll be overcast this week, with periodic rain and even scattered thunderstorms. For another, the bushes around that rock out by the football field have bloomed. That's nice.

Right! Right— [ She stands, almost tripping in her haste, and blows them out, quickly. ]

[God damn girl, she hadn't expected it to go that fast-- Farrah hums a much-sped up version of happy birthday as Peregrine goes, then bursts into cheers.]

Good job! Happy Birthday, Connor.

[ If anyone had any illusion of Peregrine being actually put together and mature, please let this dissolve it. ]

[She keeps clapping. Then pats the ground next to her.]

It's really nice you made this for him. I'm sure he appreciates it, if he can see us.

Or maybe not. He seems like the type of guy to be like "ugh, no, no one celebrate my birthday!"

[ Peregrine’s not going to tell Farrah why she knows when Connor’s birthday is. She’s not going to explain that, nor anything else about that conversation, because even now, she feels it’s almost an invasion of his privacy that she knows it, but— ]

No, he… No one really celebrated his birthday anyway, so… I can’t be sure, but… I think he’d like it. [ … ] After my brother died, everyone’s vigils and everything— it didn’t…it wasn’t for him. It was for them. So many times, people do things and…they say it’s for the dead, but…it’s really not.

[ Like becoming a survivalist and almost killing yourself in the woods. ]

I didn’t wanna do that. [ Again. ] Not…not for Connor.

Fuck them. We'll celebrate it. I'll eat the shit out of this cake with you, if you let me, as a big "fuck you" to anyone who didn't celebrate it.

[...But she'll tone it down, just for Peregrine.]

I was gonna— I don't really know how ofrendas work, exactly? But...if there's a chance he can have some, I wanted to like...leave at least a little here. Especially since...he's still around here, somewhere.
