Week Five

[Last week, you had your very first minor body pileup! Granted, the Balladeer's death was entirely unrelated to anything, but at least he died as he lived - getting completely fucked up in some kind of carnival-themed hellscape. Only two days later, another terrible accident took Rina and Varian both from you. It's just been one of those weeks, huh? At least you got to add both of their corpses to your weird growing collection!

Again, you'll wake up this morning with another new snippet of memory. You'll also find that the stairs in the lobby are no longer blocked. You can only access one part of the second floor, but it seems like there's some neat stuff up there!

Outside, a few things seem to have changed. For one, the weather has turned - it'll be overcast this week, with periodic rain and even scattered thunderstorms. For another, the bushes around that rock out by the football field have bloomed. That's nice.

[ Janis looks from Peregrine to Maya, laughing. Just... laughing. She's happy enough to laugh, no jokes, nothing. Just... herself. The person she wants to be. ]

[ Throughout all of this, Peregrine has kept looking down at her feet, making sure she's...well, getting it right. But the longer they all dance together, the more the girls pass her between them, the less she feels she needs to. Now, she just feels like... Well, like a teenager, having fun. How long has it been since she did that, just...something for fun? ]

And with every step together,
We just keep on gettin' better.

[ She giggles and fake bows. ]

[Maya's heart practically soars the second she can meet Peregrine's eyes. She can't remember the last time they all looked like this -- blissful, like the teenagers they are. She can't certainly can't remember when things felt lighter than air, felt as easy as breathing. Before the loss of Connor, certainly, though it may well have been after Mumble even.

But right now, that doesn't matter. Right now, she pushes that thought as far from her mind as she can, and simply focuses on each note, each verse, each step. Every moment is precious, and she'll cling to every second.]

[ It's been hard to think, sometimes, even harder than she's admitted to Maya or Peregrine, or even herself, about just who she is or where she actually belongs. It's not easy, being a character and being a narrator, you know? You have memories, but the memories don't always feel real. You're aware, but only some of the time. And no one else is aware of the things you know.

But right here, right now? Janis knows she belongs. Where she's going to belong as long as they'll have her. ]

[ Peregrine's done countless exercises, countless workouts to get herself in the best possible physical shape for survival. Survival, survival, survival, that's what she's been about, pushing herself to the very edge. And yet, this moment here, it has her more breathless than any drill she's put herself through.

She starts to slow, and the way it's worked out, she's holding each of their hands in hers. ]

[As their movements slow, and as Maya is left to look between both Janis and Peregrine, she lifts her voice up one last time. She meets their eyes, challenging them both to join her.]
