Week Three

[Last week, some shit went down! Salieri's scene went off without a hitch, but the good mood didn't last. The first motive was a bit of a doozy, and yet it didn't even have anything to do with the eventual accidental death of Mumble Happyfeet! At least Sissi was already pretty much dating Death anyway, right? She's probably fine, wherever she is.

This week, new menus have been posted in the cafeteria. But, more importantly, it seems that other new information has emerged. Everyone wakes on Sunday with some new memories - or are they old ones? - floating around in their heads. Maybe there was something to your discussions of time travel after all. Maybe there was someting to the Wizard's knowledge of the future.

Regardless, you're still stuck in here. At least there's some new places to explore this week. Maybe you'll find something helpful.]

[A ruined chamber, debris scattered everywhere. A woman knelt on the ground before her, duelist jacket knocked away. A sword in hand, familiar in more ways than one. And a voice, Maya’s own.

"A dream is not something you have, but something you assert. There is only one star shining at the top."

Maya wakes with a start in the Broadhurst dorm. She can almost taste her heartbeat in her throat. The dream itself isn’t particularly unnerving on its own, she had succeeded in her first challenge after all, and against the only person that had ever posed a challenge to Maya.]

Claudine.

[That, of course, was the problem. She recognized the longsword, particularly the orange jewel glittering in its pommel. She’d seen it in a photo here since arriving, after all.

Regardless of what is said within her dorm, Maya eventually makes her way through the school. Her intentions are the same as always -- practice in the dance studio. But the new wing of the school draws her attention instead.

She finds herself in the library, wandering through the shelves of books. Many of them are unfamiliar, but… She finds a few nonfiction titles that draw her interest. She settles at a small table eventually, books about giraffes, about sword fighting, and even books about anatomy laid out in front of her.

Eventually, she makes her way to the nurse’s office. Really, she’s just shuffling through the shelves and taking stock. She snatches a role of ACE bandages for later, just in case. She also finds a roll of athletic tape and takes that with her as well.

With that, it’s back to her routine. She heads to the dance studio as usual. This time, her sword hand seems to be wrapped. Less callouses, please!]

[Likely after Varian's exhausted himself with the auto shop is when he'll wander through the rest of the new wing, coming up on a Library of a scope he's never seen before. He knows the castle must have a huge library, but obviously he's not at liberty to have free access to it unless there's a good reason...and since everyone here is confirmed from different time periods at this point, he can't help but wonder what kinds of books are available on hand.

Before he can get distracted looking up things for his own purposes, he happens to notice Maya sitting at one of the tables. He approaches (sans Ruddiger since he wanted to nap), taking a seat at the table just as he catches what it is she's looking at.]

...You like giraffes?

BECAUSE WE LOVE HE

[Maya glances up at Varian's approach, but doesn't say anything right away. She's currently flipping through the book, looking for... anything. Really, it's unsurprising that the book would have literally nothing about supernatural giraffes but...

She shakes her head.]

Not quite. [Her smile looks almost rueful.] But... I think if I tried to explain it, you would think me crazy.

[alchemistake]

...Maya, I have a pet raccoon.

[He remarks, as if that's enough to absolve her of any insanity as he moves to take a seat across from her.]

I think I can probably handle it.

[mayavericks]

[She looks at Varian, then back down at the book. It's not even close to the same level, but...]

The tournament I am partaking in is... Hosted by a giraffe.

[There are no arcane tomes on magic rituals that Angus can consult here. He should have expected that teaching himself spells wasn't a viable path here, but reading about this history of this world should account for something.

He has a few books with an overview of American history - gotta learn about Lincoln and Roosevelt - and heads out to the tables.]

Maya. May I read here with you?

[mayavericks]

[At first, Maya only intends to glance up and give a nod to whoever her companion is. However, at the sight of Angus, her eyes narrow.]

I was actually hoping to speak with you, so -- [She motions to the table] -- By all means.

[Is she angry at him? He slides into his seat wordlessly.]

Did something happen?

[Her expression is placid as ever, so... Hard to say.]

Do you still have that photo from last week?

[ Janis is sort of. Walking by, a camcorder in her hand for absolutely no reason don't worry about it, when. ]

... I understand why most of these books are here?

[Maya glances up at the camcorder and only looks mildly perturbed. Mostly because it's a camcorder and not a smartphone in her face. Thanks for the prep, Nana.]

Which one are you unsure about?

[ She is at least visibly not currently filming. Or at the very least stopped for this conversation. ]

I get swords, I get the books about where swords go, but uh. Planning a big game hunt, there?

Ah. That. [She scratches her cheek, looking sheepish.]

If I told you, I don't think you would believe me.

dance studio

[ The gym is her usual place for workouts. But the gym's getting stale. Peregrine wants to be outside.

So, she decides to try the dance studio. Maybe that can work for some more...relaxed exercises. Peregrine, generally, seems to be more that. More relaxed.

She should've expected to see Maya. Her eyes catch on the dull sword. ]

Soo. This is your normal routine?

More or less.

[Maya is in the process of righting the mannequin at the moment. Apparently she'd gotten too excited and knocked it over. Today, she's not the one wearing the jacket, it is. Or rather, it was. Right now, the jacket sits on the floor.]

Some days I practice dancing, other singing. But... it seems far more important to keep this aspect up. [She turns to face Peregrine.] Would you like to join me?

In...what is this, stage dueling?

[ A light smile at the edge of her lips. ]

Not exactly my usual workout. How's it go?

[mayavericks]

You could call it that.

[There's an almost mischievous smile on her lips.]

I am part of a competition at home. Actual duels with more stakes than on the stage itself. As such, I need to stay in shape.

[She gives Per a quick once over.]

[The Balladeer's been wandering the new areas, but he wanted to talk to her! He immediately comes over to her table, sitting down across from her.]

I think - are these all books about giraffes? [They aren't, but the one nearest him is.]

[Maya looks at her books, and then at the Balladeer.]

No. [A beat.] What is it? Were you looking for me?

Oh! Yes! I - I had a dream last night, but I think it was...maybe more of a memory.

[He's got more reason to think that than most people here. It's something that happened in his show, too.]

I think we're all actually missing memories. Did that happen for you, too?

This place has, like, NO trashy novels, it's terrible.

[Despite her complaints, LSP has a small armful of romance novels.]

You having any better luck?

[Maya gives LSPs armful of books a skeptical look, before nodding.]

I found what I was looking for, at least. Nothing romantic, of course.

[Elle finds Maya in the nonfiction section, a "Law School for Dummies" book in her arms]

Oh! Hey Maya. [She smiles.] Find anything interesting?

[Maya's mostly just perusing at this point but... She does pause to look Elle over.]

Mostly just... looking, at this point. What about you?

Oh, uh. [Elle holds up the book in her hand]

I sorta remember getting accepted to Harvard, so I figure I should do some studying?
