Week Three

[Last week, some shit went down! Salieri's scene went off without a hitch, but the good mood didn't last. The first motive was a bit of a doozy, and yet it didn't even have anything to do with the eventual accidental death of Mumble Happyfeet! At least Sissi was already pretty much dating Death anyway, right? She's probably fine, wherever she is.

This week, new menus have been posted in the cafeteria. But, more importantly, it seems that other new information has emerged. Everyone wakes on Sunday with some new memories - or are they old ones? - floating around in their heads. Maybe there was something to your discussions of time travel after all. Maybe there was someting to the Wizard's knowledge of the future.

Regardless, you're still stuck in here. At least there's some new places to explore this week. Maybe you'll find something helpful.]

[If Maya's laughing, then so will Varian. It does sound ridiculous, but like...if people who think they're penguins and sponges exist, then why can't this be a thing?]

So like...how did you find out about it, though? Did he just walk up like "Hey, I'm Mr. Giraffe and I'll be hosting this contest"?

No, nothing like that. He is very... secretive about this whole thing. He summoned me to his stage in the dead of night, while I was sleeping. And I awoke in my room as if nothing happened the next day.

[alchemistake]

[THAT'S SO...WEIRD...but honestly, no weirder than half of the shit he's been through and witnessed in the past two weeks.]

Man. It sounds like you really have been through your share of weird stuff lately.

And I thought I was one of the normal ones of our bunch.

[She shakes her head.]

[NORMAL...that's funny.]

Well, if it helps, I haven't seen anything like a giraffe around here. So it's probably safe to say he isn't involved this time.

Well, it's... Like what Hester said. It's far too small in here for any of that.

Heh, it's no problem. I can't say I blame you now for being so surprised when we first woke up...

[She was probably, uh. Expecting to see a giraffe, not Varian and Salieri causing a ruckus.]

What other books are you reading?

Books about swordfighting and anatomy. [She taps the anatomy book in particular. Normally she might doubt talking about this, but...]

Should... the worst happen, I would like to know how I could potentially injure someone to the point of incapacitation, but avoid risking the chance of death.

[MMM CONCERNING, but...also totally understandable. Maya is just practical of a person that this makes complete sense and doesn't actually alarm him as much as it could have.]

That's...not a bad idea, actually. I wanna say I hope it's not something you ever have to use, but...you make me wish I'd thought of that.

[It's fine, don't worry about it, Varian.]

I do hope I won't have to use it. But if an accident did not qualify as a valid defense, self-defense will not save us either.

Makes sense. It sure does sound like something the Wizard would pull.

[Maya has the right idea. Murder, even to save your own skin from getting also murdered is still a murder, apparently.]

I guess you must know a lot of like, actual self defense stuff otherwise.

[He's seen Maya when she's training herself on her own. She's scary.]

More or less. Though, given that it was all for the stage, one has to wonder about the practicality of it.

I did manage to win my first duel with those skills, however.

Oh, really?

[A duel...sounds important.]

So you actually ended up fighting someone?

[mayavericks]

I did. Against one of my classmates, even.

Wow. That sounds...pretty intense.

[More than, actually.]

Was that part of the...whole thing with the giraffe going on?

[mayavericks]

It was. As we fought, I could see what the Giraffe meant about the stage reacting to our shine. It was as if it all came to life, responding to the tone of our fight.

[Fascinating...if kinda weird. Varian frowns in thought, resting his cheek against his hand.]

So how much fighting like that are you meant to do? You said you won, but...it doesn't sound like you won.

[mayavericks]

Honestly, I don't know. The revues are meant to span the course of a few days. I couldn't tell you how many competitors there were meant to be, though.
