Week Three

[Last week, some shit went down! Salieri's scene went off without a hitch, but the good mood didn't last. The first motive was a bit of a doozy, and yet it didn't even have anything to do with the eventual accidental death of Mumble Happyfeet! At least Sissi was already pretty much dating Death anyway, right? She's probably fine, wherever she is.

This week, new menus have been posted in the cafeteria. But, more importantly, it seems that other new information has emerged. Everyone wakes on Sunday with some new memories - or are they old ones? - floating around in their heads. Maybe there was something to your discussions of time travel after all. Maybe there was someting to the Wizard's knowledge of the future.

Regardless, you're still stuck in here. At least there's some new places to explore this week. Maybe you'll find something helpful.]

I believe he wanted to find... Unique performances. To see a revue that produced shine like no other.

Trust me, I would not believe it if not for the circumstances. But I have fought in my first duel and know what the Giraffe refers to. I have seen my shine light up the stage like no other.

[ Shine, huh? ]

Duel? Damn, I mean... if you're going to be good at dancing and swordfighting, I guess that's what you'd want to go for. [ A beat. ] It's not... to the death or anything, is it? Or do you just have to like... break a flower in their pocket or something?

Flowers? This is not an anime, Janis.

[Despite the firmness in her voice, though, she looks a little amused.]

It's... jackets. If we sever the cord on our opponents jacket, if the jacket falls... They lose.

[fourbutts]

Listen, I only have the one touchstone for mysterious teenage swordfights.

[ She nods. ]

Seems reasonable enough, if you're going to go to the trouble of swordfighting for a giraffe.

I suppose it did define a great many of our generation.

[Ah, to be a swordfighting lesbian.]

I know it must sound... strange but... I could not pass up the opportunity to stand atop the stage, once and for all.

[ Janis shrugs. ]

I mean yeah, it's weird, but apart from the giraffe and the literal swords it's not crazy far off from some of the things people do in pursuit of a career in the performing arts where I come from.

[mayavericks]

It beats... What was it you called it? Doxxing other girls in an attempt to ruin their lives, all for a role?

[What's the worst that could happen from losing a swordfight!]

[fourbutts]

Yeah, for sure. As long as the giraffe is keeping things sort of safe out there, I'm going to bet no one's parents are bringing in lawsuits.

[ legal drama spinoff where the giraffe gets taken to court when ]

I imagine he is wary of it, in any case. We are all under strict orders not to speak of it. [Which... she almost looks a little guilty about, now that she thinks about it.]

The only reason I feel that I can is because Angus has seen our uniforms already, and the Wizard had a photo from one of my duels. The secret is already out here, and it is hardly my fault for it.

[fourbutts]

Wait, so the first rule of giraffe fight club is not to talk about giraffe fight club?

[ She nods. ]

Well once we're out of here, I didn't hear a thing. Cross my heart.

[mayavericks]

I... Suppose, yes, that is the case?

[Alas, the reference is lost.]

I appreciate that, Janis. These revues are... very important, after all. I would lament losing the chance to compete, simply because of this Wizard's games.

Though... [She frowns, just a little.] It would seem I already have begun competing, though I only just remembered this morning.

[fourbutts]

[ she can fix that later, maybe ]

You had a weird memory dream too, huh?

[Fight Club is totally educational, maybe it's on one of the shelves.]

I did. It was of the fight between my closest competitor at Seisho and myself. [She glances toward Janis.]

May I ask of yours?

[fourbutts]

[ it's a documentary on soap-making mister wizard i promise- ]

I, uh... okay, without the context that the subject is a garbage human being, "a months-long campaign to destroy someone's social standing" probably comes off... poorly. But that context is important.

[mayavericks]

[Okay... That's unexpected.]

They... Must be something else entirely, considering the fact that you decried tearing someone down over a role in a play.

How would you even accomplish that?

[fourbutts]

Regina George deserves being unpopular.

[ That's... said with a bit of uncharacteristic bitterness, but! ]

We, uh. Sabotaged her social life, basically. There... wasn't really a more straightforward way to deal with her. If there was, I would have done it a long time ago.

[mayavericks]

Regina George?

[Somehow, someway, this tickles the back of her brain. But... Moving along.]

What has she done that was so terrible? Not that I am doubting your methods, it just... seems rather extreme.

[fourbutts]

Regina George became the most popular girl in school by tossing every other girl in it under the bus. Including me. Someone had to stand up to her eventually.

[mayavericks]

[Well that's... a lot. Maya listens patiently, maybe a little surprised at... all of that. American schools sure are wild. Kind of like the animal kingdom.]

Well. If she was cruel to you, then I can only imagine that she deserved every bit of what she received.

[fourbutts]

[ Janis smiles a little and lets out a small laugh. ]

I'll give her this, we never got into a full-on swordfight.

[ But that... might have been easier than what Regina did do. But Janis is a little cautious about the idea of just tossing that out. ]

But yeah. We, uh. We stopped her from being garbage to everyone else. Hopefully at least until she goes to college.

[mayavericks]

I'm glad that you were able to put an end to... all of that but --

Are you sure you wouldn't like to see her in a swordfight?

[Whoever this Regina George is... She might like to put the fear of the Giraffe in her. Especially if she can get her hands on her actual rapier.]

[fourbutts]

[ Janis snorts. ]

No, uh... I mean I would, but I think we've probably done enough to her for now.

[ A slight smirk. ]

If she doesn't learn her lesson, though, I'm not opposed to a little bit of... knightly intervention.

[mayavericks]

[It's hard to bow like a gallant knight while sitting in a library chair but... He sure does try.]

I am at your service, my fair lady.

[Still, her brows furrow after awhile.]

Can I ask what she did? If only so I know how extreme my intervention should be.

[fourbutts]

[ The effort is appreciated - though the second part gets Janis to sort of. Exhale. ]

I mean... if you want to know, but just warning you now, it's not a fun story.

If you don't want to tell it, I won't make you. But I am willing to listen, if you ever are.
