[Yesterday, everyone woke up in a strange place and realized that they'd been kidnapped, and also that everyone else around them may or may not be kinnies? Wow, what a weird escalation of kin drama! Given what some people have seen of Spongebob's freaky arm thing, though, maybe it's not that at all?

Your Assistant Director, Hester, showed off her stuff and immediately had her life threatened by Lumpy Space Princess, who got her life threatened right back. Maybe you should keep that in mind if you decide to pay Hester any more visits! She won't be making another public appearance this week, but as promised, she'll be available for visits and consultation in the Principal's Office during business hours.

If you don't want to chat with Hester, there's always the school to explore! Some of you might also be receiving mysterious coins next to your bedside this week - those must be useful for something, right? There's lots to do, and you all seem like a group who can make your own fun, so enjoy your first week of school!]

(( OOC: This will be the last mod post for this week! Feel free to start submitting regains for any threads that aren't with Hester. Remember, song threads mean an extra coin! This is a peace week, so get all that CR while you can! ))

You awake in an unfamiliar bed.

It’s comfortable enough, sure, but it’s certainly not yours. The room, too, is unfamiliar, especially in such heavy darkness. There seems to have been a great effort put into making it a livable space, with fuzzy rugs laid over linoleum, beds arranged as best to fit (and one bunk bed per dorm, rip whoever has the bottom bunk), and a single desk. You've also got individually labelled trunks; if you look inside yours, you'll find a yearbook with mostly blank pages, as well as a few with some interesting information. But even with all these changes it’s clear this room started it’s life as a classroom, every window hidden behind heavy dark green curtains.

To add to the strangeness of it all, your clothes have been swapped for some kind of uniform. It, though fitting your body perfectly, might feel a bit odd to some of you, as the body you have isn’t quite the same as it was before you mysteriously fell unconscious. The other important thing to note is the people in the other beds around you, all wearing the same color-coded uniform.

The hallway outside the dorms is narrow but well-lit, with fresh white walls and some scattered posters advertising some kind of midweek club meeting. The hallway goes on until, for the more contemporary of you, the pieces start to fall together as to your location: a school. Once you leave your rooms you’re free to wander as you wish but pinned up on a corkboard just outside the cafeteria there’s framed information that you might find helpful. If you explore further into the other rooms, in fact, you'll see there's an identical copy outside all of them.

In the lobby there are linoleum floors and fluorescent lighting, and a pair of glass doors that appear to lead outside. You can see out of both of them that the sun is shining brightly and there’s definitely more to see in the distance but the glass is unbreakable; you can't get out that way right now. A rolling metal sheet blocks off the hallway to the west. For the moment, both doors leading outside are locked.

It looks like you’re stuck. But hey - at least you aren’t alone.

[ At noon on Wednesday, Riley's standing ready in the dining hall, with a clipboard and a big smile to anyone who shows up. She's set blank stacks of paper on the table, but we'll get to that. As promised, there's some basic snacks as well as some tasty banana bread. Snacks for everyone! ]

Welcome everyoooone~! Thank you so much for showing up. This is a new and confusing experience for all of us, but I'm sure if we strive to stick together and cooperate, it'll help us foster the most productive environment that we can. [ Bright, bright smile. ] So! I've gathered all of you so we can share any discoveries and compare basic information that might give us any idea of why we've been brought here. Good? Okaaaay!

[ That smile never leaves her face. She sets something down from her clipboard and starts passing out that blank paper. ]

Sooo, following my example, if you could fill this out, that...can be a good starting discussion!

[ Her example is essentially a survey. Wonderful penmanship, again. ]

[Well, all escape attempts have failed thus far. None of you have seen the Phantom since his brief appearance on Sunday, or heard from him at all. It looks like, for the time being, you’re all going to be stuck here.

You're free to continue exploring your surroundings to your hearts' content. The only real restriction on your movements is that the kitchen is closed between the hours of 10 pm and 7 am. Better make sure to grab any midnight snacks you may want ahead of time. Also, remember to label any investigation toplevels!

The Merchandise Booth is now open for business as well! The Phantom hasn't deigned to explain how it works, but...well, some of you will start to find mysterious coins in your rooms, and the Booth's got a place to put coins. You'll figure it out.

Should you wish to engage more with your host, you're welcome to drop letters in the box office slot. There's no set way to converse verbally with him, and he's certainly not guaranteed to respond if you just yell at the walls - but that doesn't necessarily mean he isn't listening. Just something to keep in mind.

Enjoy your first week, everyone.]

You awake in an unfamiliar bed.

It’s comfortable enough, at least, but it’s certainly not yours. The room, too, is unfamiliar. It's not quite large enough to fit the bed and armoire comfortably alongside the vanity, especially with one wall nearly taken up entirely by an enormous gilt mirror, but hey - at least it’s cozy? Although that might be a little hard to appreciate when you have no idea how you got here.

There’s a silver key resting on your vanity, along with a thin program booklet. The cover - where the name of the show would usually be - is blank, but if you flip through it, you’ll find some startling information. Maybe a few familiar faces as well…

The hallway outside is narrow but well-lit, lined with (mostly) star-studded doors. But if you make your way past them and out into the lobby, you’ll find something entirely different: an elegant, refined opera house. At least, it looks as though it must have been at one point. Now, it’s clearly seen better days - someone's made an attempt at cleaning, but the crystals glittering on the chandelier above are foggy with dust, and the red upholstery on all the furniture has faded.

A large clock on the northern wall marks the time, which is fantastic, because most of the windows in the building are shuttered. If you pass through the ballroom, you’ll notice the large windows on the upper level are not - but, despite what the clock claims, it looks like it’s night out there. As brightly as the room is lit, you can’t make out much of anything outside.

There’s also some framed information pinned up that you might find helpful. If you explore further into the adjoining wings, in fact, you'll see there's an identical copy in every room.

In the lobby there are two sets of double-doors: a set that leads deeper into the Opera House and another leading out outside. For the moment, both doors leading outside are locked.

It looks like you’re stuck. But hey - at least you aren’t alone.

[It's been nearly a week since everyone was brought here, so you know what that means. It's time to share information and discuss strategy!! Or something. Anyway, the Pirate King has gone around and told everyone (yes, even you!!) about the plans for a lunchtime meeting in the dining hall. You don't have to come if you don't want to and the Pirate King will not drag you there, but if you want lunch and you try to sneak by the room, he might notice you and drag you into it.

Once everyone is gathered (or most people, if some of you aren't showing up), he'll stand up and slam a hand down on the table to get everyone's attention.]

Gentlemen! ...And ladies. We have been in this establishment for nearly a week now! It's time we discuss our situation and what we've learned here. From my own explorations, it seems as though escape is impossible. None of the doors or windows will open no matter how much physical force is used! I would like to hear any ideas you all have about escape, but any information or plans in general would be wonderful!

[Let's get started, shall we?]

WEEK 1

[With the introduction of their showrunner and a brief run through of what they're in for in their time in the Opera House out of the way, the performers are free to explore the first floor of the opera house at their leisure then and for the rest of the week that lies ahead. The double doors leading to the kitchen will be unlocked at 7 am and locked at 10 pm for intermission. Performers are free to prepare meals for themselves and others at any time outside of intermission.

The Merchandise Booth will also be open for business after the first day as some of the performers may find envelopes with their names on it taped to their doors in the morning.

If performers wish to have private conversations with their showrunner, The Balladeer, just step up to the box office and see if he's in.

Enjoy your week, everyone.]

[ooc: This is the last mod post for the week for us! Feel free to start depositing coins in the merch booth if any of your threads have reached that length, so long as they're not with the Balladeer. Remember, song threads mean double coins! There will be no murder this first week so gain all the CR you can while it lasts, darlings.]

As the chaos of arrival fades into a more muted confusion, everyone seems to have drifted into the lobby. It's just the most natural place for a large group of people to congregate. But even with twenty of you, it seems a little too big; maybe it's that the ceilings are so high, or that the air is a little too still. It feels like there are silent eyes upon you all.

That's before the great gilded doors on the northern wall swing open, seemingly of their own accord. The man who strides through is already too busy strumming a melody on his guitar to have touched them. He's dressed casually but neatly, in jeans and a flannel shirt with the sleeves rolled up to his elbows. But his most striking feature is his face - or, rather, its familiarity. There are small differences, to be sure: his hair is slightly longer, and there's a breezily confident air about his smile. Otherwise, though, he's a dead ringer for Billy Harris.

His gaze does linger on Billy for a moment as he's scanning the room, but he doesn't speak to him. He's clearly got something to say to everyone.

Velkommen, bienvenue, welcome!

He moves about the perimeter of the lobby as he sings, giving a few small bows over his guitar: first towards Anna and Hans, then the three Frenchmen, each group in turn as he greets them in their native tongue. He doesn't sound entirely conversant in any of them other than English. But anyone can manage a single word, can't they?

Friends, enemies...strangers.

Here, he pauses just long enough to shoot Billy a wink and a grin before wheeling away.

Thank you for joining, our new little play.
Happy to see you, hope you enjoy your stay.
Yokoso, bienvenue, welcome to
The Opera House, the Opera House, the Opera House!

The music continues quietly in the background even as he lifts his hands from the strings to mime a tip of the hat. "Ladies and gentlemen, it is great to finally meet you! How are you all settling in? Everything okay with your dressing rooms?" His tone while speaking is brisk and somewhat businesslike, but he seems to be enjoying himself.

"I am the Balladeer, and I'll be your host for this show. Now, I'm sure you've seen the rules posted around, but just so we're all on the same page, I'm gonna have a little Q&A session right now with all you guys. Please remember, I am an employee of the Opera House, so Rule Five?" He gestures to the rules pinned up on the wall next to him. "Does apply. I wouldn't recommend testing that one. Actually?"

He tilts his head a little, thoughtfully, as something more like appraisal creeps into his eyes. "I would recommend not hurting anybody at all. But that's really not up to me, is it?" Brushing that off with a shrug, he returns to playing the guitar.

Welcome, bienvenue, welcome to
The Opera House, the Opera House, the Opera House!

With that, the music fades, and the Balladeer swings the guitar around to hang at his side. That's it for his entrance; the floor is now yours.

(( OOC: As stated, Rule Five is now in effect. You can attempt a violence if you want; you will not be immediately killed for it! It just won't end pleasantly. ))

You wake up, and realize you don’t remember how you got here.

This bed is soft and warm, but it’s certainly not yours. And the room is unfamiliar - unless perhaps you’re an actor, seeing as it looks almost exactly like every dressing room in the world. It's not quite large enough to fit the bed and trunk comfortably alongside the vanity, but it what it lacks in open space, it makes up for in coziness. This could be something you’ve seen in a movie, or dreamed about experiencing one day. But whatever the case, you aren’t supposed to be here.

There’s a silver key resting on your vanity, along with a thin program booklet. The cover - where the name of the show would usually be - is blank, but if you flip through it, you’ll find some startlingly familiar information. Maybe a few familiar faces as well…

The hallway outside is narrow and poorly-lit, lined with star-studded doors. But if you make your way past them and out into the lobby, you’ll find something entirely different: an elegant, refined opera house. Crystal chandeliers glitter overhead, and the red carpet is perfect for putting on a show. A large clock on the northern wall marks the time, though with the windows shuttered and locked it's difficult to tell whether it's morning or night. There’s also some framed information pinned up that you might find helpful. If you explore further into the adjoining wings, in fact, you'll see there's an identical copy in every room.

There’s also two sets of double-doors in the lobby: one leading back the way you came, deeper into the Opera House, and one leading out. For the moment, neither of them will open.

It looks like you’re stuck. But hey - at least you aren’t alone.
