Week Two

[Last week, no murder happened! Instead, a lot of students started work on Salieri's school play, which sounds pretty cool even though it's gonna be short, several people destroyed Bigfoot and got a few mysterious clues, and Orpheus started a fire in the kitchen! All in all, not a bad first week!

Though some people might have gone to talk to Hester, she hasn't made any more public announcements. There's some new papers posted up around the cafeteria, but it looks like it's just your upcoming lunch schedule. Seems like nothing's driving you towards Rule Five except, perhaps, all of the kidnapping and how criminally boring some of you are finding the school. Maybe the Balladeer is right, and you really can just wait this out? Only time will tell!]

[ Eurydice starts the week by waking up early! We admire her energy, honestly. First stop is Rodgers dorm, to make sure Orpheus is all right. Then, it's off to the kitchen with a stack of paper and a pen, doing her usual inventory.

For the remainder of the day, Eurydice will be scouring the school for hidden cameras. Unfortunately, she assumes these cameras are supposed to be larger than they actually are, and on her first sweep, doesn't find too many. So she heads to the scene shop to sketch the camera that she does know exists. If you catch her here, she'll hold up her (rather poorly drawn) sketch, and ask: ]

[Oh....oh. Yeah. Those things...talked about a History Club.]

Not so far, no, I'm afraid mademoiselle. But...I can look for any, if you do need some assistance.

[ She passes Sissi the drawing. ]

I'm going to climb up that big...thing. [ She means the mechanical lift. ] Spot me?

Yes, yes, of course!

[While Elisabeth is an emaciated noodle, she is also a tall noodle, so she nods as she looks at the paper, briefly eyeing the camera before she folds the paper and puts it in a pocket. Just in case.]

All right, I'm ready!

[ Eurydice climbs onto the lift and presses a button. It starts to move upward, and she white-knuckle grips the rails. ]

It moves!!

[ Eurydice looks a little panicked. She definitely did not expect this at all!!!!! ]

Scene Shop

A camera?

[Maya tilts her head.]

Nothing like that. Though if you think someone is watching us, you'd likely be looking for something smaller.]

[ Oh, good. Maya is a person who knows what she's talking about. ]

I would? But how does that work? Where does the film go?

[ Eurydice has so many questions ]

[She cracks a faint smile.]

No film. It's all digital. It... goes onto a chip, often barely larger than this -- [She points to her pinky nail.]

...Like the CD?

[ That was small, and fit a lot of information. Eurydice's eyes widen a little, like something's just clicked. ]

Let's try the dance room. Come on!

[ Orpheus trails along after her, eyes on the ceiling looking for bafflingly tiny cameras like the one the President pointed out. He's... not exactly known for being the most observant man in the world, though, so his contributions are a bit slim. ]

If they're filming us - someone has to collect the reels, right? If they can even fit film reels in something that small.

[ He frowns, trying to imagine it again. Maybe most of the mechanism is embedded in the ceiling itself? ]

[ It's all right! By their powers combined they'll probably...find......something........ ]

Maybe they're using really small bits of film. Where do you think they'd hide them?

In the principal's office, maybe? That's where Miss Hester seems to spend all of her time. Maybe that's what she's doing in there. Watching us.

[ That's not a pleasant notion. Although it does beg the entirely irrelevant question - ]

Do you think that's where she sleeps? I've never seen her leave.

[howtheworldwas]

[ Eurydice nods. That makes sense. She makes a note to ask Hester about this. ]

Probably. Bet she's waiting for one of us to break a rule. There could be chambers back there for her and everything.

[ Eurydice wrinkles her nose. Ugh, rich people.

A beat. Eurydice's thinking. ]

We...could try asking President Lincoln again? If he knows where one camera is, maybe he knows about the others.

Kitchen

[Here is Angus, searching high and low for any prepared meal that isn't a pizza, when he notices that he has an ally in the kitchen: Eurydice, The One that Got Away!

She has some things that certainly aren't usually used in a kitchen, but he jumps off the stool regardless.]

Hail to you, Eurydice. What is it that you are seeking here?

Hail, uh...Agnes.

[ help help she has forgotten this man's name, it's been a while since Eurydice looked at the yearbook! ]

Oh, I'm not seeking anything. I'm just taking inventory.

[mcfife]

[It's...close? Angus does feel a bit hurt.]

Angus McFife XIII, but you can just call me Angus.

[Squints.]

Apart from that one? [Nods her head towards the camera Eurydice was sketching.] No. They must be pretty well hidden.

Maya says they're really small. And digital. Have you ever seen a digital camera before?

[ because Eurydice sure hasn't!! ]

I don't even know what "digital" means!

[So, no.]

[ Peregrine's also taking inventory here, yet she hasn't really spoken to Eurydice a lot. It's...confusing, to know "Orpheus" is here so "Eurydice" is another can of worms she hasn't wanted to open. By now, Peregrine's starting to accept the idea that they aren't kin and maybe might be...the actual people. Which is terrifying and confusing, but also incredibly intriguing, despite her initial reluctance to engage.

Which is why, today, while she's looking through a cabinet, she asks: ]

Have you noticed there's more now? I guess they restock over the weekend.

[ Each and every day Eurydice wishes she were kinning this Greek mythic figure instead of actually being her.

Eurydice is searching a nearby cabinet, and at first, she just nods and goes mmm-hmm. Then, a beat later, she snaps her head up, realizing she actually hasn't spoken to this person before. She looks to be about a teenager, in the red uniform -- which means she's one of Orpheus's roommates. So she can't be too prickly. Eurydice's gaze is assessing, but not hostile or accusatory. ]

Yeah. We used up all the apples last week, but now there's enough for all twenty-five of us. We should still be careful though.

Of course. No telling when they're going to stop feeling generous...or if this food's tainted in any way. So, we better go over all of it. Like last week.

[The Balladeer leans over to see the picture and nods.]

I know there's one out in the lobby, too. Farrah and I were laying on the ground there the other day. But honestly, I'd assume Hester or the Wizard know most of what everyone's doing with or without them.

[Comforting!]

[ Eurydice does not look remotely comforted by this!!!! ]

...why do you say that? They're not even out here with us. I've never seen the Wizard.

Well, if he's supposed to be our narrator, it's his business to know anything important. Not that he seems to be doing a ton of narrating - but then, we haven't seen him.
