[ There's a groundhog anxiously pacing around the halls when suddenly everyone appears in the lobby and she's rushing up after all the initial reactions. ]

Maya was the culprit. She was under the effects of the motive - But at the last second, Janis and Hester saved her life... I think.
But her and Hester are both still back in the auditorium!

Unlike on Wednesday, it's because he was incapable of doing anything but collapsing to the floor, like a marionette with his strings cut, when Nana ran back to the academy to tell everyone that Maya was alive. Enough hands - nearly everyone else's, in fact - were already on their way to help, before he even had the strength to pull himself up from the floor.
But he's one of her first visitors, nonetheless, bringing her a cup of tea. By the time he reaches her, she can hear the teacup shivering in its saucer from the way his hands are shaking. He passes it to her wordlessly, then lowers himself to the floor next to her, and just... stares at her, for a long, unbelieving moment.]
...It's... it's really you?

It gives her a sad pang in her chest, a whisper in her head briefly mourning that this didn't happen with everyone else, but she pushes those thoughts aside. Approaching Maya's bed, she smiles, tired but true, and pulls up a chair to sit beside her.]

She lingers outside the door for what feels like hours, but is actually only minutes, terrified of what she’ll face inside. Finally, when she opens the door—- she doesn’t pay attention to Maya at first. She’s busy staring at the walls. At Varian’s chaos, and her own chaos, still proudly displayed—- it takes her a few moments to snap out of it. Thankfully, this takes less time than the whole standing outside the door thing did—- and she finally turns to Maya.
She tries to recover, seem cool. She pops a hand on her hip, and twirls a braid with her free hand.]
Well. You really got the heat off me. I don’t even know if I’m still grounded.

In the end, both recleaning and stitching Maya's self-inflicted wound and dealing with the leg wound take some time. At least this time, she's remembered to wear the gloves at the start. As she finishes, she sits back on the bed (Connor's, of course) that she pulled over to use as her counter and support. ]
So I'll need to change those each day. You cannot move around a lot, or it'll tear the stitches and...I don't think either of us want me to have to redo those. [ Internally, Peregrine thinks they probably will have to either way; she definitely didn't do as good a job of those as she could have. ] If you need help getting anywhere, you ask me or— [ ...she gives Janis a side look, Janis who is positively passed out on a bed and snoring. ] ...or whoever else is visiting you. No doing any of this on your own.
[ Despite the charged emotions of the day, many of them from her, Peregrine stays pretty calm, brief apologies aside. Perhaps surprisingly, she's got a pretty good bedside manner! Still, as she sits back, she starts to look more and more tired. ]

There's a heavy thumping following the yelling, with quieter, lower growls trailing for several minutes.
Once Angus is tired out and ready to speak to people again, he wanders up to the library, keeping his head up and nodding like everything is alright when he passes the others. He has a small bouquet of thistles in his hand as he picks out a book on handicrafts and takes a seat to build a flower crown out of his collection. It looked easy, based on his eyewitness accounts of peasants constructing them, but after a few tries and many fallen petals, he has only managed to link 3 flowers successfully.
It's not frustrating. It's tiring. But it's something to focus on. Elle needs to know his feelings on her death one way to another. She died crying, asking Maya if the others would hate her, and instead of getting help, instead of telling her she was loved, she-
Eventually, he'll consider that a lost cause and return to cafeteria to get food for himself and the lizards. It's been a long day, and he grows hungry. Unfortunately, his plan for a calm afternoon is ruined upon the discovery of a stack of letters on one of the tables.
Angus sits hunched over one of the tables reading the one address to him, leaving the rest in their envelops., his mouth trembling and failing to keep the tears from rolling down his cheeks. Bruiser sits on the chair beside him, pawing at him and whining when he doesn't move. Angus sits back and covers his eyes with a hand. He tries to breathe.]

But he doesn’t care, he’s still family and he’s still hurting.
He sits across from him, giving Angus a soft look and pointing to the crown he’s making. ]

He sets the teacup on the first available table and goes over to Angus, scooping up Bruiser and taking his chair with the little dog settled in his lap, reaching over and putting his hand on the back of Angus' chair.]
I... God, Angus...

She's never seen Angus like this. The image of the prince happily swinging his hammer to a jaunty tune was still at the forefront of Cass's mind, but... Now it was being replaced. The sad man sitting before her, too tired to even stop the shedding of tears. As she slides into a seat at the table, she stumbles over what to even say.]
