Week Three

[Last week, some shit went down! Salieri's scene went off without a hitch, but the good mood didn't last. The first motive was a bit of a doozy, and yet it didn't even have anything to do with the eventual accidental death of Mumble Happyfeet! At least Sissi was already pretty much dating Death anyway, right? She's probably fine, wherever she is.

This week, new menus have been posted in the cafeteria. But, more importantly, it seems that other new information has emerged. Everyone wakes on Sunday with some new memories - or are they old ones? - floating around in their heads. Maybe there was something to your discussions of time travel after all. Maybe there was someting to the Wizard's knowledge of the future.

Regardless, you're still stuck in here. At least there's some new places to explore this week. Maybe you'll find something helpful.]

Sunday | Monday | Tuesday | Wednesday | Thursday

(( Be sure to submit your memory regains and your AC for this week! Hester's office hours and the merch booth also remain available! ))

[ Without missing a beat: ]

You'd be surprised. Some places don't have really specialized books in certain areas. It depends, but, if this place is modeled after a really fancy private school—like this is like three times the size of the library back in Whitetail High School, but like, we've got less than a hundred kids, so if you want something focusing on like, anything they don't have an elective for? You gotta special order it through the librarian and that's just a pain. They always ask, "Oh, now, why's someone your age lookin into something like that, now, don'tcha know, you can find just as much at the pamphlets at the Forest Center"

[ She has, for the record, exaggerated her own accent to a ridiculous extent.

Peregrine rolls her eyes. ]

Anyway. We won't run into that here, I don't think. [ As she's tapping on various book spines, skimming the shelves. ]

[personal profile] themuseabandonsyou 2021-06-29 05:16 pm (UTC)(link)
I guess that's happened to you a couple of times? [ Sounds like it, from the way she talks and how she sounds like she's quoting or paraphrasing someone there.

In any case, Orpheus pulls an encyclopedia off the shelf and begins to flip through it, rather than... looking at the index, or anything. He's... doing his best.
]

What exactly are we looking for?
comeandfindme: (whoa‚ whoa‚ whoa‚ whoa)

[personal profile] comeandfindme 2021-06-29 08:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Only too many times to count.

[ Peregrine grumbles as she's looking through. ]

I...am not sure. ...Could you maybe— [ She looks up at him flipping through the encyclopedia. Oh, Orpheus... ] New idea. You figured out how to work a computer? See if one of the ones up front's got a search feature. Just...enter the word film.
themuseabandonsyou: (profile)

[personal profile] themuseabandonsyou 2021-06-29 10:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, okay. [ says Orpheus, putting the encyclopedia back on the shelf and giving the computer a slightly hesitant glance. ] I... think I can do that?

[ Probably! He's watched the others use the computers by now, he thinks he can figure it out. He heads on over and gives it a look, and mercifully it's already turned on and set to the library's index page. It takes him a while to hunt-and-peck the word film into the search bar, but he does it.

And then he stands there, not knowing that he has to hit enter to make it go.
]

Now what? [ he calls over to Peregrine once it becomes clear that the computer isn't doing anything. ]
comeandfindme: (yeah‚ it breaks at the center)

[personal profile] comeandfindme 2021-06-29 11:27 pm (UTC)(link)
[ ... ]

Is it bringing anything up...?
themuseabandonsyou: (profile)

[personal profile] themuseabandonsyou 2021-06-30 12:11 am (UTC)(link)
No! I'm just looking at the word 'film' in a long rectangular box. What do I do now?

[ look Peregrine Orpheus isn't even a boomer he's technically greatest generation or something, you're gonna have to give him a bit ]
comeandfindme: (they want me to slip up)

[personal profile] comeandfindme 2021-06-30 12:21 am (UTC)(link)
[ ...... ]

Hit the enter key, Orpheus. The little...the one that says enter.
themuseabandonsyou: (smile)

[personal profile] themuseabandonsyou 2021-06-30 10:16 pm (UTC)(link)
[ It takes Orpheus a moment of searching, partially because Peregrine said 'little' so he looks at the smaller keys first, but thankfully for the sake of her sanity he does find it eventually. ]

Oh! It gave me a list of books that it thinks might be relevant? [ And he'll read off their titles and where they can be found. ] This is really useful! It's like a little librarian.
comeandfindme: (never gonna stop until we shatter)

[personal profile] comeandfindme 2021-06-30 10:41 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Peregrine breathes out. This is on her, she thinks, if he's from sometime in the 1930s then, well, of course he doesn't know how to work a digital catalog. ]

Yeah. It's so the librarians don't have to know everything, you know. [ She scoots down the shelves, to find one of the books that sounds most promising. ] Aha! Here we are. Wow, can't believe there's actually a movie textbook here.
themuseabandonsyou: (profile)

[personal profile] themuseabandonsyou 2021-07-01 01:53 am (UTC)(link)
[ Orpheus scurries on over, leaning over her shoulder a bit to take a look. ]

Oh, that'll probably have whatever we're looking for, right? I can't believe there's whole textbooks just on movies now.
comeandfindme: (🌨️ push into the fear until it shatters)

[personal profile] comeandfindme 2021-07-01 03:58 am (UTC)(link)
It's a field of study. There's whole schools just for film now.

[ She pulls it out and starts flipping through. ]

Disney, Disney... [ Here's an early history of film, Orpheus! In fast motion, because she's looking for something specific. ] Aha! 1928! 1928 was when Mickey Mouse debuted.
themuseabandonsyou: (Default)

[personal profile] themuseabandonsyou 2021-07-01 05:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Wow. I guess that makes sense? It's an art form like any other.

[ He sort of wonders what his aunts think of it, and if any of them have claimed dominion over it yet, or if they'd divvy it up by genre like with stage plays. ]

And you said you thought I might be from something like the 1920s or 1930s, right? So that would make sense. I didn't pay much attention to movies or cartoons most of the time, but I think Disney was pretty new.
comeandfindme: (i'm climbing up every wall)

[personal profile] comeandfindme 2021-07-01 10:33 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Peregrine nods, reading it over. ]

It was new. Their big hit was in 1927 with Oswald the Lucky Rabbit, but...it sounds like there were copyright issues...and then Mickey Mouse came along. He's like, the mascot for the whole company now. If you've seen a cartoon before a movie, it's probably—

[ And she's gonna just. Whistle. ]

[personal profile] themuseabandonsyou 2021-07-01 11:07 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Orpheus snaps his fingers in recognition and whistles along. ]

That's it! That's the one I saw. With the boat, right? I don't really remember a lot about the movie that came after it, but I remember the cartoon pretty well.
comeandfindme: (left! right!)

[personal profile] comeandfindme 2021-07-01 11:37 pm (UTC)(link)
And that's why they're still around today. In my time. Like 70 years later.
themuseabandonsyou: (profile)

[personal profile] themuseabandonsyou 2021-07-02 12:18 am (UTC)(link)
That's a really long time. [ says Orpheus, sounding wildly impressed. ] And they're making their own movies now? I can't imagine how much work it'd be to draw a whole movie's worth of animation.
comeandfindme: (🌨️ i'm willing to take the fall)

[personal profile] comeandfindme 2021-07-02 12:42 am (UTC)(link)
[ She nods! ]

It's not just animated movies, either. There's some live-action ones. I couldn't even list them all, there's so many.
themuseabandonsyou: (smile)

[personal profile] themuseabandonsyou 2021-07-02 03:33 am (UTC)(link)
Wow. Have you gotten to see a lot of them? I don't live anywhere near a theater, so I've only really seen one.
comeandfindme: (🌨️ dead reckoning)

[personal profile] comeandfindme 2021-07-02 06:08 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, definitely! Whitetail's small? But, like, there's a theater and a drive-in, and like, there's Netflix, and Hulu, and all that.

[ Wait— ]

Ways you can watch movies at home.
themuseabandonsyou: (smile)

[personal profile] themuseabandonsyou 2021-07-02 04:05 pm (UTC)(link)
I guess it makes sense that there'd be more movie theaters if there are more movies being made. Do you need your own projector to watch them at home, though?

[ He hasn't really looked at the TV cart or put two and two together with regards to that or the computer screens just yet. ]

Either way, that sounds like it must be a lot of fun.
comeandfindme: (feel the roots)

[personal profile] comeandfindme 2021-07-02 09:42 pm (UTC)(link)
No, it's... You know the computers? Things with screens like that, basically— you can use those to watch movies if you've got the right programs on them.
themuseabandonsyou: (profile)

[personal profile] themuseabandonsyou 2021-07-03 04:26 am (UTC)(link)
Oh!

[ There it goes, that clicks into place. ]

There must be a lot you can do, with computers. I haven't really tried using them much before now? I was sort of worried about breaking one.
comeandfindme: (stay loose)

[personal profile] comeandfindme 2021-07-03 04:20 pm (UTC)(link)
[ She cracks a relieved smile, glad she doesn't have to explain anymore. ]

They're sturdy! ...Mostly. Sometimes they can just...randomly have an error, but usually that's something in the machine not anything you did. ...I think, at least. My mom told me that when I had to take my laptop in for repairs, once.

[ ...it's possible Kathy Wells was just trying to be nice... ]
themuseabandonsyou: (smile)

[personal profile] themuseabandonsyou 2021-07-05 12:38 am (UTC)(link)
That's good to know! Maybe I'll try to figure them out later.

[ He will immediately forget about his intent to do this as soon as this conversation is over. ]

It's kind of incredible that there are machines that are complicated enough to... make mistakes? That aren't just something in their machinery getting stuck like a gear or a lever or something, though.
comeandfindme: (left! right!)

[personal profile] comeandfindme 2021-07-05 06:23 am (UTC)(link)
Huh. I guess so. Technology's always been just something I've grown up with? Like it keeps getting leaps and bounds better, but...it's normal for me, to think about them having bugs or making mistakes.

[ this is gonna be a bad conversation in a few days when the SQUIP does the thing ]
