Week One
[Yesterday, everyone woke up in a strange place and realized that they'd been kidnapped, and also that everyone else around them may or may not be kinnies? Wow, what a weird escalation of kin drama! Given what some people have seen of Spongebob's freaky arm thing, though, maybe it's not that at all?
Your Assistant Director, Hester, showed off her stuff and immediately had her life threatened by Lumpy Space Princess, who got her life threatened right back. Maybe you should keep that in mind if you decide to pay Hester any more visits! She won't be making another public appearance this week, but as promised, she'll be available for visits and consultation in the Principal's Office during business hours.
If you don't want to chat with Hester, there's always the school to explore! Some of you might also be receiving mysterious coins next to your bedside this week - those must be useful for something, right? There's lots to do, and you all seem like a group who can make your own fun, so enjoy your first week of school!]
Monday | Tuesday | Wednesday | Thursday | Friday | Saturday
(( OOC: This will be the last mod post for this week! Feel free to start submitting regains for any threads that aren't with Hester. Remember, song threads mean an extra coin! This is a peace week, so get all that CR while you can! ))

Scene Shop
[Comes Varian's voice from across the way where he's actually rummaging through some of the other tools. Not the more heavy-duty stuff, but what he's more used to- hammers, wrenches, things like that.]
But I guess the only more obvious way to point out that rule- [She knows the one.] -would be to stock the place with actual, you know. Weapons.
no subject
I know why it's here. If that assistant director isn't going to give us any help, then I'm at least gonna take note of things that we'll need to safety-proof.
no subject
[It's not a bad idea. But that also leaves the issue of who they would actually put in charge of that...and how much do they all trust each other, really?]
no subject

[Varian rubs his hands together, grinning.]
I doubt anybody would really need this old thing for anything, right? Especially if it doesn't really work all that well. I could take this apart in my sleep.
no subject

[Varian murmurs as he walks over to grab one of the nearby tool boxes, already going through it as he returns to the old lift.]
I'm an inventor. I'm probably taking things apart more often these days than I'm putting them back together, but it's been a while since I've had something like this to study.
no subject
Whaat kinds of things do you make?
no subject
[How...did he GET them underground.]
But I've also got my lab rigged with an automatic pest trap, I make my own capsules for storing my chemicals in, y'know. Stuff like that.
no subject
You...don't have a hot water system yet. There's a lot of people here like that. Different levels of technology. It's impressive for you to be working on it at- ...how old are you, like...14?
no subject
[Varian is actually 16, physically. But his memories don't currently reflect that, so...]
I've been interested in working on stuff like this since I was little. I started with helping dad out around the farm, figuring out how to repair things like broken carts and squeaky gates. I guess it just kindof...evolved from that, you know?
no subject
Despite all this, she sounds incredibly interested. ]
Are there any grownups who do that kinda work, or is it just you? Do they just let you do what you want?
[ That sounds amazing. ]
no subject
[He pauses, trying to find the kindest way to put this.]
...supportive.
[Hm.]
Er- he's a good dad, a eally good one. Which is why he doesn't support it, I think...he's worried about the danger in all of it.
I'm really the only person in my whole village who does this kind of work though, yeah. Not just inventing- alchemy, science...it's both ancient and new since not many people are willing to pursue it.
no subject
It sounds to me like he's just being overprotective. Parents never think about how bad that can be. You're doing something for the good of your whole village, and what, is he just gonna coddle you forever? You have to know how to do things by yourself.
no subject
[It's saying a lot, actually.]
no subject
You're doing this 'cause it matters to you, right? 'Cause there's something you wanna...wanna do with it, yeah? Then he shouldn't let you do anything, he should just...understand. Or actually trust you.
no subject
Yeah. He should.
[But he doesn't.]
I don't really know what else to do to get him to see eye-to-eye with me, though. Other than just...keep working, trying to make things better so that he'll see for himself what I'm capable of.
no subject
[ And suddenly she's ride or die for Varian. ]
no subject
Yeah. ...yeah, you're right.
[He stands upright again, using a hand to brush some dust off the lift. He'd been working at a few of the screws while they were talking, but it seems like they're rusted over pretty good.]
It's gonna take some work to get this thing apart, speaking of doing things.
no subject
[ Oops. She got distracted. She doesn't often let herself do that. ]
What d'you think the first step is? I'll be your...assistant...? I dunno what that's called in engineering.
no subject
[He'll point out the issue with a gesture of his wrench.]
The problem is this rust. Everything's stuck tight because this thing is so old. So we gotta find a way to either get that off, or lube it up so I can work around it.
no subject
[ She repeats that to herself while tapping her chin, trying to recall. Did Howl ever teach her anything about that, anything at all...? ]
...If we got a lime and some salt, we could. But on something this big, we'd need a lot of limes and a lot of squeezing.
no subject
See? Now you're thinking like a chemist. We might actually have that, between the kitchen and the vending machines...and it looks like we're going to be here for a while anyway, so time isn't an issue.
[They can sit here all day squeezing limes if they need to.]
no subject
I know a lot of...home remedies for stuff like this. [ It's not just woodsy things she's learned! ] I'll go grab some salt?
no subject
[He'll try to wait for the rust to come off but he's eager so no promises...]
