[Yesterday, everyone woke up in a strange place and realized that they'd been kidnapped, and also that everyone else around them may or may not be kinnies? Wow, what a weird escalation of kin drama! Given what some people have seen of Spongebob's freaky arm thing, though, maybe it's not that at all?

Your Assistant Director, Hester, showed off her stuff and immediately had her life threatened by Lumpy Space Princess, who got her life threatened right back. Maybe you should keep that in mind if you decide to pay Hester any more visits! She won't be making another public appearance this week, but as promised, she'll be available for visits and consultation in the Principal's Office during business hours.

If you don't want to chat with Hester, there's always the school to explore! Some of you might also be receiving mysterious coins next to your bedside this week - those must be useful for something, right? There's lots to do, and you all seem like a group who can make your own fun, so enjoy your first week of school!]

Peregrine and I found some gloves yesterday over in the prop shop. We tried to bust through one of the windows with one of the trunks.

[With a pair of bottoms and a couple shirts in hand for trying on later, Varian will put them over his arm for the time being.]

Glad to hear I'm not the only one trying to get those doors open. People keep being like "but Varian, they're indestructable!" Yeah, well, that's what people say about a lot of things, but even diamonds can be broken with the right methods.

In this case I think it's more that there's magic bullshit happening, and personally? I don't fuck with that. [A beat.] But I believe in you and shit. If you ever need help trying to break out, I'm down.

Glad to have you on board! And listen, magic has never stopped me. We just need to see if we can find a weak point. Some place where things aren't quite so closely guarded.

Who's to say a different exit might exist in this place that isn't the front doors? This building is huge, you can't tell me there's only one way out.

Feel like the obvious place for that would be in the principal's office, though. Think the real question is why we don't have free run of the place.

I imagine there's stuff in this school elsewhere we're not meant to see. I mean, if they have some sort of plan to torture us later, I wish they'd at least have the courtesy not to drag it out over a whole week.

[Don't worry Varian, they'll drag it out EVEN LONGER.]

A week? Nah, it's gonna be like a month at least. You do a control week to get a baseline for our personalities and then you start changing variables to see what happens. You're a science-y type. You know how it is.

[Connor, that's not........ ethical. You're describing mad science shit.]

[That sure is mad science shit, and yet Varian can't say it's wrong. And he's not sure how he feels about that.]

I don't doubt that...but don't you find it strange that the only person we've met so far doesn't really...seem evil, or anything? Like, I don't trust her at all, but she's acting like us being here is perfectly normal.

Well, yeah. It's that cat thing. If you observe the cat you've already fucked up. So she's probably, like, part of the experiment. Someone told her something else, I think.

[He doesn't know what, yet. But he strongly feels like Hester is just as much a victim as the rest of them.]

I've tried talking to her, but she doesn't really seem to want to- or maybe be able to- listen to reason. Most of my questions have to be directed to the "Wizard" anyway, so it's like talking to a brick wall.

........ Do you think she's brainwashed? If she was brainwashed, maybe we can undo it. Deprogram her somehow.

It's possible. Or we could be dealing with some sort of...stolkholm situation, right? I imagine she's probably been here a lot longer than we have.

[Maybe Hester is being forced to act against her will, and she's just very good at keeping that under wraps.]

Maybe. [He seems to contemplate that for a moment.] If that's the case, we're gonna have a harder time bringing her to our side, if that's even possible. It might not be.

It's worth trying, I think. I mean, other than trying to escape, there's not a whole lot else to do.

[He looks around the costume shop again.]

Other than make our own fun, I guess. If you could call it that.

That depends. What kind of experiment are we talking here?

I don't know, you're the science boy. How much damage do you think setting something on fire would do?

Oh, plenty. Honestly, the only reason I hesitate is the small problem of what to do if the fire got out of control with no way for us to escape.

[It would put an end to this madness right away, though maybe not in a way they all intended for.]
