[Yesterday, everyone woke up in a strange place and realized that they'd been kidnapped, and also that everyone else around them may or may not be kinnies? Wow, what a weird escalation of kin drama! Given what some people have seen of Spongebob's freaky arm thing, though, maybe it's not that at all?

Your Assistant Director, Hester, showed off her stuff and immediately had her life threatened by Lumpy Space Princess, who got her life threatened right back. Maybe you should keep that in mind if you decide to pay Hester any more visits! She won't be making another public appearance this week, but as promised, she'll be available for visits and consultation in the Principal's Office during business hours.

If you don't want to chat with Hester, there's always the school to explore! Some of you might also be receiving mysterious coins next to your bedside this week - those must be useful for something, right? There's lots to do, and you all seem like a group who can make your own fun, so enjoy your first week of school!]

[Wow. Spongebob sure has been busy...but Varian had only popped in here to grab something quick to eat. He'll grab a strip of bacon that's unattended unless he's stopped (which is NOT enough for breakfast but okay, Varian), but he will pause long enough to eye the huge spread Spongebob has put out.]

Oh- thanks, but I don't have time for...woah. Did you make all of this by yourself?

Sure did! I wanted to make sure all my new friends had plenty to eat today!

[He already considers them all friends.]

And what's the rush? It's not like we have anywhere to be right now, right?

[Also he's not letting a kid eat a single strip of bacon for breakfast.]

[Varian blows his fringe out of his eyes before explaining, tapping the back of his pencil against the stack of paper he's brought with him.]

I need to take some measurements. The doors, the windows...I'm going to try to figure out if I can rig something to get us out of here, so it unfortunately can't wait.

Well it's not like we're in any immediate danger right? I'm sure we'll be fine if we don't find an escape right this moment! Besides you can't do good work on an empty stomach; just ask Gary!

[His pet snail.]

[I MEAN immediate danger depends on how you look at it...the constant looming threat of the unknown feels pretty immediate to Varian, but he supposes when you have enough optimism to cure depression then it probably doesn't seem so bad.]

I'm eating though, see?

[A single bacon strip, it's food right.]

Wait, let me guess. Gary is aaaa....fish?

You gotta eat more than that!

[Look he just doesn't want his new friends to starve, ok??

That last part does get a little laugh out of him, however.]

Close! He's my pet snail, actually!

[A small pause.]

I'm a little worried about him actually. He's a smart guy but I'm not sure if he'll be okay if I'm not there to feed him while we're here.

How about this, we'll meet in the middle- I promise I'll come back for more. Just need to get something I can take with me.

[Pancakes unfortunately aren't that portable unless you just eat it dry, and who does that am I right.

A pet snail doesn't sound too weird, when you consider the fact that he and other kids in his village kept bugs and frogs and all sorts of things all the time. He's just...not imaging a snail that literally says "Meow".]

Snails are pretty self sufficient from what I've seen, so I don't think you have anything to worry about. Not unless he can unlock a door, or something.

[He's joking.]

Alright! And if I don't see you coming back here I can bring some more food to you!

[That is a threat.

He rubs his elbow awkwardly.]

Gar is pretty good at looking after himself, but I remember the last time I left him alone he was really sick when I got back.

Yeah, sometimes that happens...Ruddiger can get himself into trouble if I leave him alone for too long, but he was like. Technically a wild animal before we met? So I trust him to be able to take care of himself.

[He was a What Now]

[In two hours Varian is going to feel like he's being watched with a huge stack of pancakes.]

Wait, you were able to tame a wild animal as a pet? Maybe you should teach me how to do that sometime. I tried adopting a wild jellyfish but it ended up taking over my house. There's no way I'm doing that again but I could use some pointers if I find a wounded animal!

Well...kinda? Ruddiger kept breaking into my lab because he wanted food. Every time I'd put him out, he'd just keep coming back...so I guess you could say he tried to take my house over, too.

[Not that he succeeded, of course.]

I wouldn't recommend going out and finding a wild animal since Ruddiger's kindof a special case, but you mainly gotta make sure they have what they need. Ruddiger wanted food, mostly, so as long as he was fed he was fine.

[And it seemed like those jellyfish wanted Tunes.]

[They wanted Tunes but at the expense of everything else though! :(]

That was probably the problem. When I took in a jellyfish all they wanted was dancing. And I like to dance, but not at the expense of being able to have some peace and quiet every now and again!

Your Ruddiger sounds really nice though! I hope I get to meet him one day!

[Don't worry Spongebob, you will.]

He's hopefully back at my lab right now where it's safe...can't imagine where else he'd be.

[Other than maybe having escaped back into the forest when Varian didn't return, which....he honestly couldn't blame him for.]

Don't jellyfish sting, though? I'm surprised you weren't getting stung by them the whole time.

[He laughs sheepishly.]

Oh I was. I like jellyfishing a lot so I like to think I'm a little more knowledgeable about how not to get stung than most fish but.

Hard to avoid a giant swarm of angry jellyfish in your house.

Oh, so you fish for them...

[That is a weird concept. Varian's never actually encountered a jellyfish in person, just read about them in books. It's pretty clear that they're not to be messed with.]

So do you, like...eat them?

[He laughs joyfully.]

Of course not! We just let them go. Of course they do make great jelly, but I promised myself I wouldn't catch jellyfish for jelly harvesting anymore.

...huh. I had no idea that jellyfish actually had jelly in them.
