Week 7

[Last week, on It's Curtains...boy, that sure was a year-long week, huh?

But despite it all, you've gotten through it with less death than there might have been. Spongebob and Farrah both survived their ill-conceived plan; Maya, with the intervention of Janis and Hester, survived her triple murder. Since the failed execution, there has been no sign of the Wizard or of Hester. It seems like you may have gotten away with that cleanly!

When you wake up on Sunday, you remember everything. All the gaps, the missing pieces, entire chunks of time from back home - they're back and neatly fitted where they should be in your heads. Elle, Orpheus, and Eurydice have also been given graves alongside the others in the garden. These ones were filled in for you; after all, you were all pretty occupied over the weekend.

Other than that...it seems like some unusual posters have been put up around the school. Sounds like something's going to happen this week. You'd better prepare.]

I'm more of a horror girl, but some of those old movies are pretty horrific... from a modern lens.

[ She pauses mid-joint roll. ]

[ Janis shrugs. ]

My show's a modern update of a teen comedy from the early aughts. I think I wasn't gay in the original, which is weird based on the way I've walked and talked and acted for the last seventeen years? But I've never seen it.

[comeandfindme]

[ After a moment of processing, as this stuff always takes, Peregrine slowly nods. ]

Meta narrator stuff. Got it. I sincerely hope either I've never seen this movie or it just...isn't, where I'm from. That might be a little too weird. [ ... ] Especially if you weren't...gay in it, like— what?

[ Janis?? Not gay??? What?????? ]

Right? But rest assured, I am very very gay, and gay in particular for you.

[ she grins ]

Now then, let's smoke some weed.

[ Peregrine snorts in amusement as she withdraws her matches and lights her joint. ]

If mom could see me now... Here— [ Same match, it's efficient. ]

She would be glad you're finding a way to relax, I'm sure.

[ She takes the match, puts it up to hers, then waves it out. ]

Can't believe we're both bad influences on each other like this.

That is honestly the least surprising part of the last few days.

[ Peregrine settles in, takes a short inhale to keep from choking on the smoke like last time, and leans back on the baseball field. ]

…You, uh… The sleep help?

I mean... I have a brain-to-mouth filter again, such as mine ever is.

[ takes a fucking drag ]

Time to say goodbye to that, I guess. Legs work again now, though, so that's good.

What did you like... I know I asked before, but what did you do? Like...like how did you know to do it?

[ She sort of. Wiggles a hand. ]

I just sort of got this feeling from Hester. I focused on a clearing, and... bam- er, snap. Scene change.

[comeandfindme]

[ ... ]

The clearing Maya appeared in... You put her there on purpose?

[fourbutts]

It... "on purpose" is a really strong way to put anything about that, Per.

[comeandfindme]

Okay. But, like... Why that clearing?

[fourbutts]

[ Janis shrugs. ]

Felt to us like a safe place to put her, I guess.

[comeandfindme]

[ She quietly remembers being out of her mind delirious with fever and hallucinations.

Oh. ]

...Heh. Guess so. [ She takes another drag, to hide her fond smile. ]

[fourbutts]

[ Janis takes another drag, too, coughing once. ]

You wanna, like... lie down? Take a load off?

[comeandfindme]

Mmmm... [ That's a yes, as she exhales smoke and lays herself down. ] This, this was...a very good idea, Janis.

[fourbutts]

[ Lays herself down next to her. ]

I don't think any court on any Earth would convict us.

[comeandfindme]

It's not legal back in Minnesota. Chicago either, right?

[fourbutts]

Not yet. Fingers crossed, though.

[comeandfindme]

Like no hope where I'm from. ...Wish there was, though. It's nice like this. Relaxing, after...

... after things go to crap. Yeah.

[ She stretches, settling in next to Peregrine. ]

Hell of a week.

[comeandfindme]

Sure was.

Thank you. For...saving her. And standing with her.

Yeah, well... when it came down to it, I couldn't think of doing anything else.

[ She will, gracefully, not mention Peregrine in return. But nothing is antagonistic or accusatory about the statement when she makes it.

She snorts. ]

Easier to have someone's babies when they're alive, after all. I cannot believe that was going to be the last thing she said to me.
