We Only Have Tomorrow
[True to his word, on 6pm Thursday Spongebob has the party at the library set up and ready to go! It's filled with cute handmade decorations, snacks, and cobbled together games! Even with all the help he accepted, it's very clear that this was a passion project for Spongebob.
Taped around the library is a set of rules, and frankly there were a Lot of rule fliers around the library.]
RULES
1. Bring your own food and games! The more fun the better!
2. Stay as long as you want! We can make it a sleepover!
3. ABSOLUTELY NO MURDERING
4. Have fun! 💗💗💗💗💗
[Luckily for those who are aware of the cartoon, the party doesn't seem nearly as micromanaged as it could have beenmostly because this party is more in a desperate attempt to keep everyone alive than anything else so have as much fun as you can before tomorrow!]

Chess seems to be a good distraction, if nothing else.]
Oh, hey! Up for a game?

[Varian shifts the board so that the black pieces are lined up on his side. He'd gotten everything all set up before hand, so really all they have to do is start.]
I don't get to play against people all that often, so this should be fun.
[Time to see if you can beat a computer!!]

[Just gonna go ahead and move a pawn. AND WE'RE...GOING TO VAGUEHAND THE REST OF ITS MOVES]

You got me there! My dad actually taught me how to play...we used to play a lot when I was little, but I got to a point where I'd always win and...that's no fun.

[Varian props his cheek up in one hand, moving one of his pieces.]
I don't really have any friends my age back home. Most of the other adults in my village are either too busy or give me a wide berth since my experiments can be kinda...volatile.

I would have to see your village to give you advice. The social norms may be different than what were programmed in to me, but I am meant to adapt as the situation requires.
[The SQUIP may or may not be playing aggressive - too aggressive. And if it happens to give an opening Varian can't bring himself to ignore, well...that may also be part of the plan.]

It's alright. It'd probably be a lot different compared to what you're used to dealing with, anyway.
Then again, I'm not sure how many potential friends I could have made would like playing chess anyway. It's not all that easy to pick up, you know?

[What do people have against chess, god.]

[That was quick]

...also wait what did he say-]
W-wait, I'm not a nerd!
