Week Three

[Last week, some shit went down! Salieri's scene went off without a hitch, but the good mood didn't last. The first motive was a bit of a doozy, and yet it didn't even have anything to do with the eventual accidental death of Mumble Happyfeet! At least Sissi was already pretty much dating Death anyway, right? She's probably fine, wherever she is.

This week, new menus have been posted in the cafeteria. But, more importantly, it seems that other new information has emerged. Everyone wakes on Sunday with some new memories - or are they old ones? - floating around in their heads. Maybe there was something to your discussions of time travel after all. Maybe there was someting to the Wizard's knowledge of the future.

Regardless, you're still stuck in here. At least there's some new places to explore this week. Maybe you'll find something helpful.]

[So like...Varian is in the scene shop a lot, that's not a question. So he's familiar with the boxes and things around in the place, sometimes uses them to transport tools and materials when he's working. It's fair for him to assume this is just another box that got left out in the middle of the floor, so...

He's going to try to pick it up and move it aside before somebody trips on it.]

[ As soon as Varian picks it up, little hands reach out and grab the rim of the box, trying to pull it back down.

There's a person in here, Varian. You can see her little shoes now. ]

[OH...it's probably a good thing he recognizes those shoes.

He lets go of the box, letting it be pulled back down. He isn't going to leave though, instead moving to sort of crouch down in front of it.]

Guess this one's occupied, huh?

[ She's quiet for a moment, now realizing it's Varian... and feels bad. ]

S...Sorry...

Hey...what are you apologizing to me for?

[Varian props his chin up in his hand as he looks sidelong at the box. Had the motive been that upsetting to Rina? She must be worried about the people she knows back home, whatever the place might have been.]

There's plenty of boxes out here. I'm not gonna miss one.

[...]

But, uh...any reason I'm talking to a box right now and not my friend...?

[ She's quiet for a while, mulling over how to explain herself. ]

I just... wanted to be alone for a little while... and not get in anyone's way...

B-But I seem to have messed that part up.

[Poor Rina...should he just go? He doesn't want to force himself into her space if she wants to be left alone. He knows how frustrating that can be.]

Yeah...the scene shop can be pretty busy.

[He sighs, folding one arm over his knee. Just leaving her like this isn't an exciting prospect either.]

Well...I can keep an eye out to make sure nobody bothers you, if you want. I was going to be in here for a while anyway.

[That way, she has an excuse not to talk while knowing that Varian is here, in the event she decides she does want to.]

[ She feels... bad. Like she's shutting him out when he's probably her best friend here? But it's also relieving hearing him say that he'll make sure no one bothers her. ]

Th... Thank you.

[ After a moment though he lifts the box up a little. ]

Um... would you like to sit in here with me? It might be a tight fit but it's kind of calming...

[ She's... she's trying. ]

[Varian blinks, leaning over a little so he can better see underneath the edge of the box. It's hard, seeing as how it's so dark underneath...but it's a relatively big box. They'll have to squeeze, but he's not too much taller...

He'll nod at her offer, relieved in a way that she's inviting him in on her own accord as opposed to the other way around. He just hopes that nobody comes by while they're in there and trips over them both.

It takes Varian a little maneuvering to get under the box, hunched with his head touching the top, but he manages. He'll hold his knees close to his chest to give Rina as much room as possible.]

...huh. You know, it is calming. Guess I know why Ruddiger likes to be up under tables and stuff so much.

[He presses his cheek to his knee so he can look over at Rina.]

Is this helping?

[ She makes sure to scoot further in so there's room for him and nods. ]

Mhm... it's helping a lot. You're not too squished?

Nah, it's not so bad.

[Varian manages a slight, if sad, smile.]

How long have you been here?

Um...

[ She tilts her head. ]

I'm not sure... I lost track of time.

Mm...that's okay. Sometimes you need to lose track of time for a little while.

[Man...Rina must really be feeling down.

Varian thinks. He thinks hard...thinks about what's been burning a hole in his pocket for a few weeks now, sort of waiting around for a rainy day, or maybe just the right time. Is there ever going to be a more "right" time in a place like this?

Rina is upset, and he can only imagine it's because of the motive, but...honestly the reasoning matters less than what he can do to fix it.]

Hey...Rina-chan? I want to give you something. But you have to close your eyes first.

Huh? Um… okay.

[ They’re under a dark box with only a little light but okay she’s closing her eyes. ]

[Guess who forgot how physics work in his anxiety, it's fine.

While her eyes are closed though, he'll pull something carefully out of his front pocket and press it into her palm.]

Maybe there's a way out of the cage where you live
Maybe one of these days you can let the light in
Show me how big your brave is.

[It's a pink flower hairpin.]

Honestly I wanna see you be brave.

[ She feels something in her hand and the next thing she knows Varian is singing to her. When she opens her eyes she peers closely into her hand, using what little bit of light they have in here to try to see it.

She’s completely speechless at first but eventually she manages to find some words, ]

This… are you sure? Is this really… for me?

[Varian nods, glad that the darkness of the box probably mostly manages to mask how flustered he must look. He sure feels that way, right now.]

Mmhm. I think it really suits you.

[ Thank goodness it’s dark. Because she has no other way to hide her face right now and boy does she want to.

Instead she closes her hand around the pin tightly, bringing said hand up to the lower half of her face as if the hair lip inside is a precious treasure as she leans against Varian’s shoulder. ]

Th-Thank you…!! I’ll treasure it always…!

[He wishes it were more personal- it was just something he got out of the machine after all- but...if it makes Rina happy, then that's what really matters. She'll be able to feel him relax when she leans against him, his fingertips tapping a nervous staccato against his knees.]

You're welcome. I was hoping you might like it.

[ She stays against him, quiet as she continues to hold the hair pin close to her. Eventually though she finds the courage to sing: ]

My tremors won't stop,
My heart's throbbing cheerfully
It's because you're here that I can be honest too

[ She scoots a little closer, the words coming naturally from her heart, a song just for her ]

No matter when, forever, and always
I won't forget this joy—

[Rina singing like that...it makes Varian's heart do a funny little flip. It's so soft and sweet...

He's really glad she likes it so much. He was worried, but...it seems those worries were unfounded. And after a minute, he'll shyly add-]

You...sing really pretty, by the way.
