Week Three

[Last week, some shit went down! Salieri's scene went off without a hitch, but the good mood didn't last. The first motive was a bit of a doozy, and yet it didn't even have anything to do with the eventual accidental death of Mumble Happyfeet! At least Sissi was already pretty much dating Death anyway, right? She's probably fine, wherever she is.

This week, new menus have been posted in the cafeteria. But, more importantly, it seems that other new information has emerged. Everyone wakes on Sunday with some new memories - or are they old ones? - floating around in their heads. Maybe there was something to your discussions of time travel after all. Maybe there was someting to the Wizard's knowledge of the future.

Regardless, you're still stuck in here. At least there's some new places to explore this week. Maybe you'll find something helpful.]

Okay, first of all: gross. Second of all, no.

[He bends down and raches behind him to grab what's clearly a storage box from the costume room that used to hold makeup or something in it. He's tied ribbon around it to make it look like it's an actual present.

Anyway, he holds that out for her to take.]

[ He's in a much better mood today, isn't he? That alone makes Peregrine smile, somewhat in relief. It fades to flattered surprise when he produces an honest-to-god gift. ]

Connor, what? [ She takes it after a moment, not wanting to leave him hanging. ] You coulda just given it to me.

Okay, but that would be lame and I spent a bunch of time on this so I wasn't going to just give it to you. There's gotta be, like, a ceremony about it.

[The box contains one of the red cloaks from the vending machine, but he's very carefully appliquéd an entire forest scene on the bottom. Most of that was done by machine except for the very obviously hand-done deer right about where someone's heart would be.

Oh, and there's also a friendship bracelet in there. That he made last week but was like "is it weird? it's weird to give a girl jewelry isn't it." about. After you whole-ass embroider a cloak for a girl, though, that seems...... like less of an issue.]

[ When she first sees the cloak, she hides a small smile; she could probably make a warmer one from the deer skin, but this is nice, it's sweet.

Then she unfolds it and her mouth drops open. The bottom is beautiful, cute—but the deer's what really gets her. She runs her hand over it. She's yet to notice the friendship bracelet but don't worry, we'll get to that— ]

Connor... You didn't just get this from the vending machine, you made this.

There's also buttons on the inside. I thought... well, I thought you could put the deer skin in that way, if you ever needed it.

[Because, like. For most intents and purposes, the cape's probably plenty warm enough. But it's for Peregrine, and "warm enough" isn't really.]

[ She pulls it open and runs her fingers over the inside of the cloak to, surely enough, find buttons, so she can attach the deer skin. ]

I...won't even need to find a way to smoke it with this. [ Oh dear. That's a big smile on her face. ] This is amazing, Connor. You...really, really didn't need to do this.

Does anyone need to do anything?

[Ah, yes. Cover up your affection with nihilism. Good going, Connor.]

Anyway, red's a good color, you know? Very visible. If you ever need me to come and find you, I mean.

[ For a moment, she doesn't say anything.

Then, box still in one hand, she moves to pull him into a hug. ]

[Oh, um. Oh.

This is better than yesterday, when he was upset about it and couldn't really... focus on it. He was up in his own head at the time and now he's able to relax into her embrace and awkwardly hug her back. She's, um. Shorter than him, so it's a little awkward? Position-wise.]

There's something else in the box too, you know.

[ It is, potentially, very awkward!! She didn't think this through!!! But that's Peregrine for you, she's like half a foot shorter so her face is like, in his collarbone and we're just going to deal with it. ]

What...? Seriously, this is more than enough— [ Possibly the only thing to get her to step back, to look in the box for whatever else he's giving her. She withdraws the friendship bracelet, utterly bewildered and entranced by it, maybe as much as the cloak. It's so simple, but— ] You made this too, didn't you?

I needed something to do with my hands yesterday. I tried drawing but, uh. I kind of just ended up crying? So I thought something mindless would be better.

[He shrugs, rubbing the back of his neck nervously with a hand. Yeah, no. He actually made this an entire week ago. Farrah's bracelet is what he made yesterday.]

[ It’s weird that he’s admitting that so freely—the crying, like, she knows she kind of saw him massively breakdown yesterday, but Midwesterners tend to Put All Their Emotions Here (derogatory) and then one day, they’ll die. She’s kind of sick of that so? Honestly refreshing? So really refreshing?

She’s too into this aspect of it all to catch anything that could rip off that he’s telling a little white lie, basically. Especially as she runs her fingers over the bracelet. ]

…I don’t really wear bracelets, you know? [ And yet, she holds out her arm, after setting the box on the floor. ] Help me put it on?

[You cry in front of like six different people and suddenly you get real fucking comfortable with your feelings about it! Just real cavalier about the whole deal.]

Sure. [He trakes the bracelet from her and gently ties it around her wrist.] There you go. I tried for a design that, uh. Wouldn't get in the way? You can wash it, if you really need to.

[Or he can just make her a new one. He'll probably just make her a new one, if this one gets dirty or something.]

Connor. [ Her voice is gentle, and yet a little demanding; that need to be heard, to inquire, channeled into something soft. ] I love it.

Their hands are still close together, as she admires the simple bracelet, so she takes his and squeezes it. ]
