Week Three

[Last week, some shit went down! Salieri's scene went off without a hitch, but the good mood didn't last. The first motive was a bit of a doozy, and yet it didn't even have anything to do with the eventual accidental death of Mumble Happyfeet! At least Sissi was already pretty much dating Death anyway, right? She's probably fine, wherever she is.

This week, new menus have been posted in the cafeteria. But, more importantly, it seems that other new information has emerged. Everyone wakes on Sunday with some new memories - or are they old ones? - floating around in their heads. Maybe there was something to your discussions of time travel after all. Maybe there was someting to the Wizard's knowledge of the future.

Regardless, you're still stuck in here. At least there's some new places to explore this week. Maybe you'll find something helpful.]

Honestly, I don't know. The revues are meant to span the course of a few days. I couldn't tell you how many competitors there were meant to be, though.

I think I do. [ he says, picking it up. Yep, there's that faded wine stain that looks kind of like a weird sphinx if you squint at it just right that he could never get out no matter how many times he washed it. It's his, all right. ] This is from my job, back home. I wonder why it was in there? Aside from, um. The obvious.

You have to take it apart to understand it, after all. How else will you be sure that it will safely ensure our escape.

[Listen. Their age difference isn't all that much but... he just radiates such younger kid energy that she can't help but reach over and ruffle his hair.]

Ruddiger doesn't seem the type to take no for an answer.

[She can hardly blame him for the response! Her grip tightens on the edges of the bundle though.]

It came from the vending machine. I wouldn't have thought anything of it but...

[She twists her wrist in a circle, the rapier following suit.]

[He smacks into the wall with a cartoonish squeak! It takes him a bit to recover but when he does he looks almost panicked.]

D-discord! Don't read that, whatever you do!

[At some point, Connor grabbed a pot from the kitchen and has just been putting apples in it to haul back to the kitchen, so he puts the apples in his arm into the pot before reaching out for the... oh.]

Another one of these? [He scans over it.] Why are they all different?

[They're all, like, awful? But at the same time like.... what. Who the hell knows enough about his life that they can pull random facts like this? His family certainly don't care that much and his dad reads his emails anyway so like. Why is someone pretending to email him? Why are they all printed? That's so much effort for a prank.]

I don't know! [ says Orpheus, pausing in his unwrapping and looking up at the Balladeer. ] It came out of the machine, and I haven't seen it before. Do you want to take a look?

[mayavericks]

Salieri-sensei.

[She's relieved two-fold, honestly. One, it's good to know that her companion is safe. Secondly, it's just nice to have an adult around. Even if she's used to handling responsibility, it's nice to not be the only level-headed one.]

I found a knife in the vending machine. It's.

[She opens up the jacket bundle, showing off the knife.]

[ Peregrine's moving some tupperware of...some weird liquid when she sees Connor and all of his fucking apples. She is also, for the record, wearing that cloak Connor gave her today. ]

Wh- why do they keep coming?!

[Her first instinct is to, of course, argue with Peregrine. Of course they have privacy! They have their rooms- no wait, they have roommates. There's the nurse's office- eh, not entirely. Teacher's lounge...? No.]

I don't think the Wizard would like it if- [She purses her lips, weighing the pros and cons of letting people just be in her office without her there. The biggest con is, of course, how the Wizard would feel about it. If he'd be upset for giving them such unbridled access or if he'd be proud of her for giving them a space to be comfortable in.

After a long moment of mulling it over she sighs and closes her laptop, gathering it in her arms as she rises from her chair.]

No, Connor, it's okay. I can finish what I'm doing in the other room. It's my job to give you all what you need and if that thing is privacy I can do that. [There are the "bad kid chairs" facing her desk that look reasonably comfortable along with a plate of sugar cookies and a bright green ceramic teapot with matching cups sitting on the far corner of her desk.] Make yourselves comfortable.

I think—- I think she killed me. [Farrah thought she was chill about this—- but she’s not. There’s something different about telling Peregrine about this than when she told the others. She sobs.]

She had a knife, and she just kept—- stabbing me!

[Maya stops short. Her eyes go wide for just a moment, though there'sm more relief than surprise there.]

It's -- I found something dangerous. I wantd to make sure everyone was safe.

[Farrah doesn't like knives so... She won't go brandishing this one.]

Oh. [ says Orpheus. Then what she actually said hits him. ] Oh. I'm so sorry. I mean, I knew one of your photos was - that, but. You're dead? Already?

[ He sounds kind of horrified. Was there actually something to the idea that this is all meant to determine where they belong in the Underworld? ]

Yes, I suppose I can see what you mean.

[Maybe she'll distract herself by running her hand down Janis's arm. Heterosexually of course.]

What about your role?

[A knife??? Dude, just...the Balladeer looks around and snags a napkin from a nearby table. Just wipe it.]

Oh. Do you not recognize them? [ asks Orpheus, stooping to pick up yet more apples, getting a little overambitious and having some roll out of his grip as he does so. why can't he hold all these apples. ] Do you think they're to... a different Connor Murphy? That'd be a strange coincidence.

He lives on in our hearts.

[ a beat. ]

God I hope he's not actually taxidermy. Poor guy'll fall apart if I keep moving him around.

I hope so, too. But he probably does okay - he's good at his job. Half the time, stuff like that doesn't matter anyway.

[In stories, you don't always have to think about stuff like that. It's gonna be more about Benjamin getting back to them than what exactly happened when he was gone...right?]

[It'll take a butter knife, ok!!!!! Something to at least see its reflection. It frowns at such, confirming the thought, and then accepts the napkin.

It opens its mouth to explain, but- you know. Can't really howl at the moon like this.]
