Week Three

[Last week, some shit went down! Salieri's scene went off without a hitch, but the good mood didn't last. The first motive was a bit of a doozy, and yet it didn't even have anything to do with the eventual accidental death of Mumble Happyfeet! At least Sissi was already pretty much dating Death anyway, right? She's probably fine, wherever she is.

This week, new menus have been posted in the cafeteria. But, more importantly, it seems that other new information has emerged. Everyone wakes on Sunday with some new memories - or are they old ones? - floating around in their heads. Maybe there was something to your discussions of time travel after all. Maybe there was someting to the Wizard's knowledge of the future.

Regardless, you're still stuck in here. At least there's some new places to explore this week. Maybe you'll find something helpful.]

[ Orpheus shakes off the grim reminder of what might be waiting for them back home and smiles again, nodding. ]

I'm sure you will, too. What's wrong there, though?

[ Thankfully Orpheus remains oblivious to whatever Peregrine is stumbling over before asking her question. ]

Um. I've never really thought about it? Maybe. Immortality is strange, and it isn't really clear how people inherit it. Like I met a pair of twins once where one of them was immortal, but the other wasn't.

[ He shrugs, again. ]

I guess I won't really know unless I start getting older but not looking it, or something like that.

[ Weird... But, well, okay. ]

So...did you get anything from it? Like— okay, the stories are all like, you're strong, you're quick, you're...in a really bad adaptation of a good book series. [ Fuck the Lightning Thief movie, amiright— ] But— you haven't talked about any...abilities, like the others, that you don't have anymore.

[ Orpheus nods, swallowing hard. ]

I was just trying to fix things. [ he says, quiet and ashamed. ] But - our photographs, from last week - she could die out there. What I remembered could be the last time I ever would have seen her, if we weren't here.

Oh, it's not a problem! I probably should get back to reading about preserving things, anyway.

[ He glances over at the stack of actually relevant books next to him. ]

I just found this and got curious, but you probably got a better idea of what he was like than this book has.

[ What with it literally being aimed at small children. ]

We have plenty of that without help outside of the mortal realm, thank you very much.

[ Orpheus nods. ]

If they could get out, so can we. I'm sure of it. We just have to figure out how the Wizard got us here, and Prince Angus says he should be able to figure out how to reverse it. Or if we can get Lord Discord's powers back, he can bring us all home.

[ Under different circumstances, Orpheus might understand wanting to keep that kind of thing a secret, stressful and personal as it was. But it doesn't sound like any of that was for Connor's benefit. ]

So why would someone have been pretending you were writing to them when you couldn't have been? I guess you don't know the answer either but - that's really strange.

[Well, Maya's just received her own sword, so the good news is neither of them have to share.]

The Wizard probably got bored with waiting for us to murder each other [Cassandra lowers her sword. Just the thought of running someone through with it was... She loved a good fight! But not to kill. Not even with Hector did she intentionally want to...]

Something tells me he definitely doesn't want us to last the full eight weeks here.

[ Thankfully Orpheus gets distracted by Peregrine's question before he can question that middle part too hard and we have to dwell on the fucking Lightning Thief movie any longer than necessary. ]

Oh! There's a couple of things, I guess? Mostly animals really like it when I sing or play instruments, and if I try really hard I can make rocks move around a little? I can also make plants grow a little sometimes. That still works? I managed to get the little potted tree in the lobby to flower on our first day here.

[ You know, the ficus. The one that's absolutely made of plastic but that also definitely has little white flowers all over it now and didn't at the start of all this. ]

I don't know about the rest, though. There aren't really rocks or that many animals around to try it on.

And it's stuff about how to survive, right? He's trying to help you live?

[ Eurydice taps a few keys on the keyboard, but alas, no music. ]

Orpheus would love that. You're sure these don't make any sounds?

[ Peregrine nods slowly. She just— ]

So... You're like a Disney princess.

Yes? Yes, he's teaching me about survivalism. I'm putting what I know to the test soon— or...maybe I've already done it? I don't know, those memory things, it's...weird.

Oh, uh. [He seems... ashamed? Of the fact that he knows something?] My family used to go to this apple orchard when I was younger. I liked to know facts and stuff about things before we did them. Sorry, I know it's annoying to just, like, spout stuff off like a know-it-all.

Nah, it doesn't read like they're in love with me? More like a stalker. Like they watched me enough to know some stuff, but didn't actually know me.

Nah, it's no problem. And whenever I figure it out, you can come help me cut the apples up.

[Connor waves off the concern. Honestly, it barely bothers him.]

Yeah. Like, that's the part I don't understand? [He taps the paper.] Fake letter? Kind of unsettling, maybe. Fake letter that has some personal information? The sort of thing the Wizard would pull. Fake letter that's so fake it doesn't even make sense and is actually just confusing for me? What's the point of that?

[mcfife]

[Angus twists with the swing of the hammer, his cloak fluttering behind him, and realizes that Cassandra has slipped behind him. A wily trick! He tosses the cape to the side and steps back, lifting the handle of the Hammer to block the attack.]

[Elle frowns.]

Yeah, that's pretty gross. I guess that's the upside of being here: they can't find you.

[Only in the murder school is Connor safe from Evan Hansen.]

[He'll shake his head in the negative, and writes on the paper: It's the club. We were silent inside, and the effect has persisted. ]

Very well, I'll be quite glad to do so. I appreciate your being willing to attempt it, and I'm sure it'll be quite delicious.

I'm certain you're correct. [he moves to gather up most of it into a messy pile, which he then shuffles into a neater one, leaving it on the corner of the piano.]

I'll just leave this here, then. No reason to bring it along.

[he steps away from the piano, turning them towards the door, and opens an arm in offering for Varian to step under, if he wishes]

I am hardly one to throw hints, Monsieur, though you certainly would not be my first choice of people for an ego boost. [dryly--as he pushes off the wall, starting to turn towards the door.]
