Week Three

[Last week, some shit went down! Salieri's scene went off without a hitch, but the good mood didn't last. The first motive was a bit of a doozy, and yet it didn't even have anything to do with the eventual accidental death of Mumble Happyfeet! At least Sissi was already pretty much dating Death anyway, right? She's probably fine, wherever she is.

This week, new menus have been posted in the cafeteria. But, more importantly, it seems that other new information has emerged. Everyone wakes on Sunday with some new memories - or are they old ones? - floating around in their heads. Maybe there was something to your discussions of time travel after all. Maybe there was someting to the Wizard's knowledge of the future.

Regardless, you're still stuck in here. At least there's some new places to explore this week. Maybe you'll find something helpful.]

Nah, if you cut them that shortens the shelf time. [He taps on the apple he's holding.] The skin is what keeps them fresh, mostly. The second you cut it, an apple's like a ticking time bomb.

I really don't know, honestly. The other thing is... it came from the vending machine, but everything else people have gotten that they recognize is something, like. Real, you know? Stuff from home. [He taps the paper with his other hand.] This is just some fucking fanfic.

... I might have to work on that one, but I can try. The dough's just kinda tricky, from what I remember.

[Not that he's gonna go full Austrian grandma about it, but just the ratios to make it that thin.]

Really...? [ Huh! Something she didn't know. ] How d'you know so much about apples?

[To both the questions about email and the questions about this email. He says it absently, shifting the pot of apples around to set it on a nearby table.]

The thing is... the thing is, nobody but my family and the school's disciplinary board knew I was in rehab. [And Miguel, but he wouldn't have told anyone.] It was an embarrassment for hotshot lawyer Larry Murphy, so they kept it quiet.

They'd better. I'm gonna make, like, three apple pies for Spongebob's party later. [Absently, to Ruddiger:] Preemptively, you cannot have any. I might make you applesauce later, though.

[People food is for people!!! But raccoons can have little a applesauce, as a treat.]

Okay, no carrots. We'll do like a... berry salad with grilled chicken, then. [A beat.] Varian can have a hoagie.

[One of these things is not like the other, but also he assumes Varian's working or something, so the food has to be holdable and not very messy. There's probably parchment paper or something he can wrap the sandwich in so the food itself doesn't get greasy or whatever. He's not sure what Varian's doing today, actually.

In the kitchen, Connor pulls one of the stools that's in there over and points.]

You sit there while I'm cooking.

[Then, he busies himself grabbing ingredients and setting a pan to heat while he grabs a chicken breast from the fridge.]

It's nothing really. I just... I meant what I said, you know. If you call for me, I'll come around.

[Someone, somewhere is like "r, is this just the fucking scene from hsm2 and the T necklace?" which, like. You're not wrong! You're not wrong.]

Of course. [he turns to the slight mess of paper]

Well...I suppose I can just gather this up and leave it for tomorrow. I'm sure it will look better in the morning.

[...well if he thought things here couldn't get any weirder. He opens his mouth to ask a question...but then nothing comes out. For a moment, he looks annoyed--before he mimes a pencil and paper. Got any of those around, Varian?]

Well, I suppose that would be a start. But it would depend on the quality of the cake, of course.

[ i regret this. i regret every moment that has lead to this one.

Their hands are still close together, as she admires the simple bracelet, so she takes his and squeezes it. ]

[He does try to smile for her, even if it's clear he's not really feeling it.]

Right back atcha. [A beat.] Hey, Per? If we ever get out of here... when we get out of here... you should take me camping. Teach me cool woods stuff.

[It almost sounds like he wanted to say something else. Weird.]

Okay? [ It's not what she expects, that's for sure. An almost-laugh bubbles up from the surprise. She does manage to smile for him. ] Sure. I'll...show you how to find your way home. Build a fire. All the fun stuff.

[ It is weird, and she almost catches it, almost asks, but... but right now, she decides not to examine it.

She'll probably wish she had, much later. 'Cause what she didn't know was... ]
