Week One

[Yesterday, everyone woke up in a strange place and realized that they'd been kidnapped, and also that everyone else around them may or may not be kinnies? Wow, what a weird escalation of kin drama! Given what some people have seen of Spongebob's freaky arm thing, though, maybe it's not that at all?

Your Assistant Director, Hester, showed off her stuff and immediately had her life threatened by Lumpy Space Princess, who got her life threatened right back. Maybe you should keep that in mind if you decide to pay Hester any more visits! She won't be making another public appearance this week, but as promised, she'll be available for visits and consultation in the Principal's Office during business hours.

If you don't want to chat with Hester, there's always the school to explore! Some of you might also be receiving mysterious coins next to your bedside this week - those must be useful for something, right? There's lots to do, and you all seem like a group who can make your own fun, so enjoy your first week of school!]

[The big guy will try.

He stands there at the ready, not hovering his hands close enough to break Angus' focus, but still prepared in case 100 pounds is a bit more than the Scot can chew.]

[mcfife]

[Angus has no difficulty with the first few rounds of lifting, but he slows down after a minute and strains to bring it all the way back up.]

[barberic]

[When Angus slows down and begins to struggle getting it back up onto the rack, Benjamin is there, not taking any of the weight but with his hands wrapped around the bar to guide it back into its resting place.]

Not bad at all, sir. You're well-practiced with that kind of weight, it seems.

[mcfife]

[The bar is dropped into place.] Whew.

That might have been too much for my first session. [Angus pushes himself into a sitting position.] But I have trained since I was a boy in the art of fighting. How else does a prince defend his kingdom?

[barberic]

A prince, you say? Forgive me, your Highness, I had no idea.

[He nods his head deferentially.]

[mcfife]

[Angus gives him a sheepish nod in return.]

Do not apologize. I have had to introduce myself to my subjects several times in the past few months.

[barberic]

[He chuckles.]

In fairness, I can't say I'd recognize His Majesty King William in the street. Then again, he walks the streets of London without crown nor guards, so he doesn't make it particularly easy.

[mcfife]

[A flash of recognition.]

London? The town in Engle-land?

[barberic]

The very same. I would say it's a bit bigger than a town, but maybe in your time it's not yet a proper city...?

[After all, Scotland hasn't had its own princes for a couple centuries, by the 1830s.]

[mcfife]

Not in 1992, it is not. It had not grown much since the days of backstabbing kings.

[barberic]

...Ah. Hm.

[What in the alternate history fuck-]

Begging your pardon, Your Highness. There seems to be less in common with our homelands than I thought.

[mcfife]

[What nonsense! Is Mr. Barker saying that England is relevant in his universe?]

Why? Did London overpower Fife in your reality?

[barberic]

Well, I can't say as I remember my history lessons all that well, truth be told. But if I recall, it wasn't a war that did it - Scotland's king inherited the English throne. After Good Queen Bess, I think it was.

And then, well, it made sense to keep the same laws in both countries, so the Scots agreed to join and become Great Britain.

[Also Scotland was broke as fuck, and England was afraid Scotland would side with Spain against them.]

[mcfife]

[How?? How???]

Then all were ruled by the Scottish king?

[History is already hard enough as it is without diverging timelines.]

[barberic]

Well-... I suppose, in a way. But London is the Empire's capital, and all the current royals reside there.

[mcfife]

I would think it would be far too dangerous to live among such an unruly people. The land south of Fife is one full of vicious kings, beasts, and terrible magic.

Except Cymru. It remains a pleasant place despite its neighbor.

That's the seat of the British Empire you're talking about. Not liking London, I can understand; half the people who live there don't like it. But we aren't lawless savages.

[A beat.]

And we also don't have magic. Terrible or otherwise.

[mcfife]

[Angus can't decide what is more shocking - another dimension without magic or the idea of London as the seat of an Empire.]

This is all - very strange. And I've come across a dimension where an evil wizard ruled Fife. [That made sense! It was alternate history with few details changed!] Never would I have thought that the people of Engle-land would manage to ever expand their borders.

Forgive me, Barker, but it is something I must get used to. Just how many universes see this development?

[barberic]

[The question throws him off.]

I'm... not sure, Your Highness. I took it as the standard, but I admit this is the first it's come up.

[Unlike the other poor historical mfers who've had to learn about World Wars and the collapse of Empires]

Would I be correct to assume that magic is unfamiliar to your planet?

[barberic]

Outside of stories, it is. It's not real to me, certainly.

[mcfife]

If it appears in stories...could it be that it had once existing in your universe?

[barberic]

Many people believe it did. Or still does. But mostly children and superstitious old women.

[And Sir Arthur Conan Doyle.]

[mcfife]

I would trust the wisdom of the old women. Many times have their words guided me on my journey.

[barberic]

That is true. And most superstitions are harmless, too. I can tell when the moon's waxing, I get more business because it's supposed to be good luck to get a haircut.
