Week One

[Yesterday, everyone woke up in a strange place and realized that they'd been kidnapped, and also that everyone else around them may or may not be kinnies? Wow, what a weird escalation of kin drama! Given what some people have seen of Spongebob's freaky arm thing, though, maybe it's not that at all?

Your Assistant Director, Hester, showed off her stuff and immediately had her life threatened by Lumpy Space Princess, who got her life threatened right back. Maybe you should keep that in mind if you decide to pay Hester any more visits! She won't be making another public appearance this week, but as promised, she'll be available for visits and consultation in the Principal's Office during business hours.

If you don't want to chat with Hester, there's always the school to explore! Some of you might also be receiving mysterious coins next to your bedside this week - those must be useful for something, right? There's lots to do, and you all seem like a group who can make your own fun, so enjoy your first week of school!]

[Maya's in the midst of taking stock of all this kitchen has to offer when she spots Eurydice. She looks the woman over, before turning her attention back to her own work. Best to not make the woman feel too pressured, even as she speaks.]

I don't think they plan on starving us. It would not work well with their game.

[ Once the other woman speaks, Eurydice looks her over as well. Eurydice is pretty small, but it definitely looks like she's sizing the other woman up, as if to assess whether or not she's a threat.

The other woman makes a sensible point. That's a positive, and Eurydice relaxes a tad. ]

Maybe. Then what do they want from us? This food isn't really free. It means we owe them something.

[mayavericks]

The Balladeer told me that these are meant to be performances. So... perhaps this is our payment for entertaining them in this game?

[It's... grim, but it's not surprising.]

Hm. I guess. I'm not very entertaining, though. I suppose it's good to have work, but I would rather not work for kidnappers.

[ Eurydice says this with the air of: you take what you can get. ]

I'm inclined to agree. But I'm afraid you and I may not have much choice in the matter.

[ Eurydice shrugs. So it goes. ]

Yeah, well. Better than having to do all this and go hungry.

[ A beat. Eurydice doesn't trust this person, but they do seem sensible, so... ]

I'm Eurydice, by the way.

[mayavericks]

Eurydice-san.

[Maya tests it on her tongue before holding out her hand.]

You can call me Maya.

[howtheworldwas]

[ A beat, and then Eurydice shakes the hand. Wow! Socializing! ]

Nice to meet you, Maya.

[ Another pause. ]

So you know the Balladeer, huh?

[mayavericks]

I know him about as well as I know anyone else here. Perhaps a little more.

[They bonded over being performers, it can't be helped!]

You two have been acquainted as well, then?

[howtheworldwas]

[ Eurydice nods. ]

He showed me some music. It was kind of strange.

[ Eurydice isn't sure if she likes the sweet, sweet sounds of ABBA. ]

[mayavericks]

Did he play for you as well?

[Technically he didn't play so much as tune instruments but... Still.]

He had a special box that played tiny records. He mostly just pushed buttons.

[ Eurydice says this very evenly, assuming that no one here knows what a CD player is. ]

[mayavericks]

[Her brows furrow. She makes a circle with her fingers.]

About this big? The records, I mean.

[howtheworldwas]

Yeah. And they were shiny, too. Do you know them?

[ Eurydice is honestly just enjoying talking to someone knowledgeable and sensible. Why are there so few brain cells in this mystery school? ]

[mayavericks]

[Ah, she smiles at that.]

Exactly. We call them CDs -- and they can hold far more information than a record could. More convenient to carry around, as well.
