Week One

[Yesterday, everyone woke up in a strange place and realized that they'd been kidnapped, and also that everyone else around them may or may not be kinnies? Wow, what a weird escalation of kin drama! Given what some people have seen of Spongebob's freaky arm thing, though, maybe it's not that at all?

Your Assistant Director, Hester, showed off her stuff and immediately had her life threatened by Lumpy Space Princess, who got her life threatened right back. Maybe you should keep that in mind if you decide to pay Hester any more visits! She won't be making another public appearance this week, but as promised, she'll be available for visits and consultation in the Principal's Office during business hours.

If you don't want to chat with Hester, there's always the school to explore! Some of you might also be receiving mysterious coins next to your bedside this week - those must be useful for something, right? There's lots to do, and you all seem like a group who can make your own fun, so enjoy your first week of school!]

[She glances toward the papers, then up at his face.]

You look like you have been busy, Salieri-san.

[Salieri blinks, once, glancing down as well and then back up as he realizes what she's talking about]

Ah, that. Yes, I've been composing, actually.

[mayavericks]

Composing? [This piques her interest. She leans forward.]

Are you interested in sharing your work?

If you'd like. I shared a bit with Monsieur Orpheus earlier, so I would be interested in your opinion as well, seeing as it seems you also have quite the talent in music, if what I just heard is any indication.

[mayavericks]

I would be quite interested, actually.

[She steps away from the piano, leaving Salieri room to work.]

[he'll move to sit at the piano, then, placing the sheet music he's created on the piano's stand]

Actually, Mademoiselle Maya...if you wouldn't mind, would you be interested in sight reading what I've written? Hearing it in the voice of an actual soprano would be beneficial, I think.

Not at all.

[She moves back over, sitting beside him. She scans the sheets quickly before nodding.]

Wonderful.

[At her nod, he'll start playing the excerpt he played for Orpheus earlier, going slow enough for her to sight read the notes, and giving her a bit of note direction with his right hand, should she need it]

[Maya, to her credit, is unfazed by this challenge. Even the fact that it is in French doesn't seem to disturb her -- in fact, her pronunciation is pretty damn good. How interesting!]

[Salieri finishes the final chord and let's it die off, looking quite pleased and also impressed]

Ah, yes...it certainly sounds much better in the proper register. [the corner of his mouth curves into a small smile] You have a lovely voice, Mademoiselle Maya. I thank you for indulging me.

[Somewhere in the midst of her performance, something clicks in her mind. She isn't sure why it hadn't clicked before, not when he'd been so forthright with his name. She chalks it up to the shock of it all.

Considering her company, though, it would probably be impolite to say that she knew as much. Instead, she bows her head respectfully.]

It is an honor for someone as esteemed as yourself to say such a thing.

[How curious. Maya glances sidelong at the man, quiet for a moment.]

But of course. [Was it modesty, or something else? The latter, if this is meant to be an "incomplete" piece. Regardless, she won't pry.]

It is a beautiful composition. I would be thrilled to hear more as you work on it.

Ah, well. About that. I am considering finishing this scene and perhaps staging it here.

A performance?

[She brightens visibly.]

I would be thrilled to help.

[That is a reaction he did expect. She's clearly a trained singer, after all, and what kind of performer wouldn't jump at the chance to perform.] Oh, indeed? I'd be happy to have your assistance, of course.

[he pauses, considering, leaning back just a bit to give himself room to fold his arms over his chest]

Granted, at the moment I'm not entirely whose talents we may be able to employ. However, if all goes as planned, I'd like to hold auditions on Wednesday...if you might consider auditioning?

[mayavericks]

You might consider the Balladeer? He seemed quite talented, if a bit... strange.

[They bonded over music but like... He's got that whole narrator thing going on so like... Y'know.]

I will be there, though. This much I swear.

[violentenvies]

Strange, I believe, is a bit of an understatement for his situation. [dryly, but with a touch of humor] However, a narration before the scene might surely be warranted...

[he is very much considering that. Good suggestion, Maya. he also looks quite pleased that she's agreed to audition]

Excellent. I should have the music prepared hopefully by Tuesday evening or Wednesday morning, at the latest.

[mayavericks]

He also seemed to have some talent for music, if you were hoping for an accompaniment?

[Nevertheless, she definitely looks pleased with herself. Impressing The Antonio Salieri? Incredible.]

I was hoping to have more than just the fortepiano as an accompaniment, and so that would perhaps be rather useful to set the scene. [he pauses to consider, playing through one or two possible chord progressions idly on the piano, before he nods to himself]

Yes, I think that would be a proper addition. And perhaps an additional chorus with the aria during the scene, if we have enough singers. [he's already pulled out a pencil and is about to start making notes on the music when he pauses, and pulls back]

Ah, forgive me. I'll notate this later, seeing as I've interrupted your practice time. [he tucks the pencil away again, moving to start gathering up his music] Which I assume you'll want to get back to. [said with a bit of levity]

[mayavericks]

I'm sure you will find plenty of talented individuals for your chorus. [She's pretty sure she knows who's going to be singing the aria at this point, wink-wink.]

You are right though, I should most certainly return to practice. I have to be ready for the upcoming audition, after all. [She smiles, just slightly.] Thank you for the additional motivation, monsieur.

I certainly hope so. I'm curious to see whom else among us has talent.

[he tucks his music back under his arm, moving to stand]
