Week One

[Yesterday, everyone woke up in a strange place and realized that they'd been kidnapped, and also that everyone else around them may or may not be kinnies? Wow, what a weird escalation of kin drama! Given what some people have seen of Spongebob's freaky arm thing, though, maybe it's not that at all?

Your Assistant Director, Hester, showed off her stuff and immediately had her life threatened by Lumpy Space Princess, who got her life threatened right back. Maybe you should keep that in mind if you decide to pay Hester any more visits! She won't be making another public appearance this week, but as promised, she'll be available for visits and consultation in the Principal's Office during business hours.

If you don't want to chat with Hester, there's always the school to explore! Some of you might also be receiving mysterious coins next to your bedside this week - those must be useful for something, right? There's lots to do, and you all seem like a group who can make your own fun, so enjoy your first week of school!]

[Varian is sitting up properly, now, searching his bunk suddenly for something...and when he pulls it out, Salieri will perhaps be startled to see a very chubby raccoon in Varian's lap, who is also looking like he just woke up.]

This is Ruddiger! Guess he's who you saw in the dark, sorry about that.

[Salieri is indeed startled by the chubby bundle of fluff that Varian has planced in his lap. He stares for a moment, just...blinking]

...I see. And he is your...pet?

[alchemistake]

More or less, at this point. He's been keeping me company for a while, so I decided to name him.

[Varian scratches Ruddiger between the ears gently, earning himself a soft, raccoony chitter in reply.]

He kept breaking past my pest traps into my lab for food, so I decided to just feed him? One thing led to another, as you can imagine.

[Ah. Well, yes, that makes so much more sense. Salieri's expression softens into bemusement]

I see. No, that does give me a rather clear view. I assume he's been a rather boon companion since then?

[alchemistake]

Oh yeah! He makes himself useful, don'tcha bud?

[Ruddiger preens, tilting his head back so Varian can pet it more.]

And uh, since Maya asked me already...he isn't rabid. I promise.

[violentenvies]

[at that, he looks a bit amused] Ah, no, I didn't think so. I trust your judgement, of course.

[alchemistake]

I'm glad to hear that. As much as I'd rather he be back at home where it's safe...it's nice having him around again.

[Who doesn't love their pets, right? Even if your pet is...a raccoon.]

I can imagine. I'm glad you're able to have a companion from home. [he chuckles, lightly] And I'll be better prepared to expect him, next time.

Thanks. I'll try to make sure he stays out of everyone's hair anyway, at least. Even though he's well behaved enough, he can get himself into trouble sometimes...right, Ruddiger?

[Wow, rude. He resents that, judging by the way his ears fall back. But also...Varian isn't wrong.]

I would never have guessed. [a bit wryly]

But it's no trouble. If I spot him, I'll know who to bring him to.

[If you spot Ruddiger without Varian, then you probably can guess there's a Problem.]

Have you ever had any pet, Salieri?

[violentenvies]

Not insomuch as a pet of my own, though there were sometimes cats or the occasional dog around the village or the monastery.

[alchemistake]

Makes sense. There's almost always strays running around no matter where you live. If there's people, there are animals. We've got a lot of farm animals around back home too, like horses and cows and stuff.

[They're not all his family's, but plenty of neighbors have them.]

Dad would probably prefer it if I had a dog or something, but it's fine. He doesn't really see Ruddiger all that much anyway.

No? Why not? [hmm? Salieri would've suspected he sees Ruddiger quite often, though he did just assume that they live together, he didn't confirm...?]

[alchemistake]

Oh! That's because my lab is like, connected to the house, but sortof more it's own thing?

[He gestures with his index fingers in a vauge sort of circular motion as he explains.]

So Dad's usually in the main part of the house while I'm in my lab, and we don't see each other during the day a lot...mostly because he's working, and I'm working, you know how it is.

[violentenvies]

Certainly. [it makes sense when Varian explains it. Though, that does make him curious...] What is it-- [though perhaps he should save his curiosity for later?? It is rather early.] ...on second thought, perhaps later. I should let you get back to sleep.

[alchemistake]

[Varian chuckles. That's right...he had almost forgotten about how he'd been woken up suddenly.]

Alright. I'll see you later, okay?

I'll see you when you've gotten a little more rest. [mildly amused]
