Week One
[Yesterday, everyone woke up in a strange place and realized that they'd been kidnapped, and also that everyone else around them may or may not be kinnies? Wow, what a weird escalation of kin drama! Given what some people have seen of Spongebob's freaky arm thing, though, maybe it's not that at all?
Your Assistant Director, Hester, showed off her stuff and immediately had her life threatened by Lumpy Space Princess, who got her life threatened right back. Maybe you should keep that in mind if you decide to pay Hester any more visits! She won't be making another public appearance this week, but as promised, she'll be available for visits and consultation in the Principal's Office during business hours.
If you don't want to chat with Hester, there's always the school to explore! Some of you might also be receiving mysterious coins next to your bedside this week - those must be useful for something, right? There's lots to do, and you all seem like a group who can make your own fun, so enjoy your first week of school!]
Monday | Tuesday | Wednesday | Thursday | Friday | Saturday
(( OOC: This will be the last mod post for this week! Feel free to start submitting regains for any threads that aren't with Hester. Remember, song threads mean an extra coin! This is a peace week, so get all that CR while you can! ))

That does leave the problem of what to do about all of this, though. Under the stress of the situation and not necessarily thinking the solution through, Orpheus picks up an orange from a bowl on the counter and throws it at the smoke alarm. It bounces off and predictably the alarm keeps on blaring. ]
What do we do? [ he shouts over the noise, looking at the younger boy with wide eyes. He's out of ideas. ]
no subject
Okay- sorry, I know we just met but we don't have a choice. Can you give me a boost up there on your shoulders? I can see if I can take it apart and stop it!
no subject
Be careful!

To save both Orpheus and Varian's eardrums, let's assume the screws aren't as tight as they could be...and with some (a lot) of difficult wiggling and twisting, Varian is able to get enough screws out to reach the battery, which he immediately recognizes as a power source even if he's not familiar with modern batteries.
Once it's been pulled out, the loud blaring stops. ...not that the sprinklers aren't still going, but.]
Got it!
no subject
What are those? [ he asks, pointing at the batteries. ] And - should we get out of here? I don't think the water's going in the cafeteria.
[ It seems pretty localized to the kitchen. Orpheus picks up the stock pot with the charred remains of the Death Note in it and looks to the other boy for guidance. ]
no subject
Some kind of power source...I'll have to actually study it more to be able to tell you exactly.
[Varian glances up at the sprinklers that haven't quite stopped. Should...they do something to stop them?
...
No, no they shouldn't.]
Yeah. Let's get out of here!
no subject
I'm sorry. I didn't know that would happen? But at least the book is destroyed.
[ He holds out the stock pot so the other boy can see. It's pretty well soot soup, at this point. ]
I'm Orpheus, by the way. It's nice to meet you.
no subject
[He is VERY used to causing accidents. He leans over to look into the pot once they're free from the sprinkler system, nodding once he's confirmed the book to be sufficiently burned.]
Good. Dunno if that was going to really work or not, but it's best we didn't chance it.
no subject
Right, you're the one who was measuring the doors on the first day, and who's been using the electric tools in the scene shop. Are you an engineer?
[ He seems a little young to be one, but Orpheus guesses there are plenty of prodigies out in the world. ]
no subject
[He grins, dipping his dripping head forward a bit in reply.]
no subject
I've never met an alchemist before. Or an inventor. Sometimes engineers pass through the town where I live, though. You must be really smart, to do all of that.
[ Even if it's all kind of related, it's still a respectable number of disciplines to juggle. ]
no subject
[When he isn't being clumsy or making things explode.]
What were those engineers like?
no subject
[ Coming from almost anyone else that might sound really sarcastic or condescending, but Orpheus is himself, and there's not a hint of anything but genuine enthusiasm there. ]
Mostly they were electrical engineers? A few of them came through a couple of years ago to hook up our train station and the lights at the bar where I work. I didn't get to talk to them much, but they seemed pretty nice.
no subject
Electricity...that's what the lights in this place are powered by, right? We only have candles for light back home...I can't imagine having this sort of convenience just, all the time.

[Corona is...it's trying. And here Varian thought his shit was pretty technologically advanced.]
Where did you say you were from again?
no subject
[ He's rambling a bit, but it's something that's been weighing on his mind. ]
The Balladeer and Elle mentioned something about alternate worlds? So I guess that's what's happening, here.
no subject
[Would explain a lot.]
no subject
[ who would do something like that ]
And about as much as a lot of the other things that are happening here.
no subject
[Even if their captors have a little more sway in what is or isn't believable.]
I guess the one good thing is it's given me a chance to learn about places I wouldn't have otherwise...I guess that has to count for something.
no subject
It's been really nice, meeting all these different people from places I've never heard of, or never been to. I haven't gotten a chance to talk to everybody yet? But I'm trying.
no subject
[It's definitely not bitterly said, oh no.]
By the way...if you get another one of those books from the machine, let's maybe try a different method of getting rid of it first next time.
no subject
Right. I still don't know what that was? [ It's still coming down pretty hard in the kitchen. Hm. That sure is going to be a mess for someone to clean up. ] But I guess it put the fire out for us, so that's something.
no subject
[Oh the wonders of modern invention.]
...think it'll ever stop?
no subject
[ There's already a pretty respectable puddle seeping out the kitchen door into the cafeteria, which Orpheus stares at for a moment, guiltily. ]
I can stay here and keep an eye on it while you ask the others, maybe?
