[Yesterday, everyone woke up in a strange place and realized that they'd been kidnapped, and also that everyone else around them may or may not be kinnies? Wow, what a weird escalation of kin drama! Given what some people have seen of Spongebob's freaky arm thing, though, maybe it's not that at all?

Your Assistant Director, Hester, showed off her stuff and immediately had her life threatened by Lumpy Space Princess, who got her life threatened right back. Maybe you should keep that in mind if you decide to pay Hester any more visits! She won't be making another public appearance this week, but as promised, she'll be available for visits and consultation in the Principal's Office during business hours.

If you don't want to chat with Hester, there's always the school to explore! Some of you might also be receiving mysterious coins next to your bedside this week - those must be useful for something, right? There's lots to do, and you all seem like a group who can make your own fun, so enjoy your first week of school!]

[ Did Rina even realize she was being avoided? Not really. She just thought Peregrine needed space after how things went down and decided to give it. So when she looks up when she hears Peregrine, it's... well, it's the same expression as ever! But her eyes widen just a little bit. ]

Ah-- Peregrine-san!

[ She pauses for a few seconds before deciding to add: ]

Are you feeling better...?

[ Seriously that first day was rough. ]

[ Better...? That's a strange concept. She hasn't felt better since that horrible April day.

She takes a moment too long to shrug. ]

Sorta. At least... I'm not gonna do that again. [ ... ] I'm, uh... I'm sorry, if I...scared you.

[ She shakes her head, expression unchanging. ]

No, it's okay. That lady was upsetting you. I'm just glad you weren't hurt.

[ It's a little weird how she doesn't really emote...but Peregrine wonders if it's the shock of it all. Rina's pretty young, right? ]

Yeah, well— I'm not gonna rise to her bait anymore. ...Promise. [ It was pretty shitty of her to do that, after telling Rina she could depend on her. That's not what she's going to say, however, and instead— ] Enough of that- you. How're you doing with...all this?

[ She looks down at that. ]

I've been... okay. It's still strange and scary but everyone has been really nice so far.

...No one seems weirded out by me yet.

[ Which. Is its own oddity to her and she's not sure what to make of it. ]

[ Peregrine frowns. ]

Why would anyone be weirded out by you?

[ She looks back up. ]

...You've noticed it by now, right? My... facial expressions.

...I...just kinda figured you were...you know, like, scared?

[ There's a moment of quiet. ]

Sometimes when really bad things happen, people just...clam up, for awhile.

[ Looking back down again. ]

I was scared but... this is just how I always am. Even when I'm not scared.

I've just never been very good at expressing my emotions. So people sometimes think I don't have any.

[ Oh.

Oh, that's a little different, isn't it? ]

Nothing happened? Like, nothing to...cause it?

[ She shakes her head. ]

No, nothing did. It's just... how I was, even as a little kid. I don't know why.

[ ...

She starts to fidget with her milk carton. ]

It makes things really difficult sometimes. Like... talking to people. Or making friends.

[ ...

Silently, Peregrine pushes her square pizza over to Rina. ]

Here. It- kinda feels like...plastic? But, it's not bad, swear. [ And she clears her throat. ] You're just...different. There's nothing wrong with that. And if anyone gets weird about it, they're stupid. Especially here.

Oh-- thank you...

[ She pulls the plate of pizza closer to her. What Peregrine says next gets her to look back up though. ]

R-Really? You really don't think I'm... strange?

[ Peregrine shakes her head. ]

My, uh... [ Oh, jeez. Well— ] My...brother? He was always...really serious. Like, it wasn't the same exactly. But...sometimes, he'd just...go really quiet. Not talk to anyone, not...show what he was feeling. That's just...who he was. Sometimes people are just like that. ...He was still a good brother. You're still...a good kid.

[ She looks down, the faint traces of a smile on her face. She wishes she had a better way to show how happy hearing that makes her, but that's the best she can manage right now. ]

Th... Thank you, Peregrine-san. Hearing that... really means a lot to me.

[ She very, very lightly punches Rina's shoulder. ]

Don't worry 'bout it. I don't mince words, so...you know it's true.

[ She laughs a little, just lightly under her breath. ]

I'm glad that, despite this place being scary, I met someone like you here, Peregrine-san.

...Yeah. Right back 'atcha, Rina.
