Week One

[Yesterday, everyone woke up in a strange place and realized that they'd been kidnapped, and also that everyone else around them may or may not be kinnies? Wow, what a weird escalation of kin drama! Given what some people have seen of Spongebob's freaky arm thing, though, maybe it's not that at all?

Your Assistant Director, Hester, showed off her stuff and immediately had her life threatened by Lumpy Space Princess, who got her life threatened right back. Maybe you should keep that in mind if you decide to pay Hester any more visits! She won't be making another public appearance this week, but as promised, she'll be available for visits and consultation in the Principal's Office during business hours.

If you don't want to chat with Hester, there's always the school to explore! Some of you might also be receiving mysterious coins next to your bedside this week - those must be useful for something, right? There's lots to do, and you all seem like a group who can make your own fun, so enjoy your first week of school!]

More of a mockery than a marvel, one would think.

Not at all. [mildly, while keeping any small bit of humor inside and not on his face]

Now...what do you think should be done with all these trombones? [he's going to glance down at the pile of them in the middle of the hallway.]

Leave them. Whatever wretch that cleans this place can deal with it. Penance for nearly killing me with them.

[He'll nod at that]

Understandable.

[...] Would you, ah...like a cup of tea?

[mayavericks]

[Maya draws in a deep breath.]

I think... Tea would be quite beneficial.

[violentenvies]

I often find it to be so. [he gestures towards the Cafeteria down the hall and, similarly, the Kitchens] Shall we?

[mayavericks]

[She bows her head in a quick nod, before setting off ahead of him.]

[violentenvies]

[he'll move to catch up with her, then, letting a comfortable silence accompany their footsteps as they make their way to the cafeteria. Once there, Salieri will start to head for the kitchen] What sort of tea would you prefer? I have seen black in there, and I also have some herbal tea left as well.

[mayavericks]

Herbal is just fine.

iT's late enough, she probably shouldn't have caffeine, right?]

[Probably a smarter idea than this mun personally has ever had in her life.

Anyway, Salieri will nod] Just a moment, then--I'll return presently. [and he's going to go fetch them some tea]

[mayavericks]

[Hard. Fucking. Same.

Maya just sits at a table and waits. She's still sort of processing everything that just happened]

[Salieri will return with a tray containing a tea pot, two cups, cream, sugar, and a bittersweet chocolate pie with strawberries on top, and small plates and silverware]

Here...this should suit, I should think. [and he's going to set that down on the table, before moving to sit across from her]

[mayavericks]

[Maya pours her tea for herself, not bothering with the cream or sugar. She does give the pie a look but... resists the urge and simply sips the tea.]

Thank you, Salieri-sensei.

Certainly. [while she's pouring, he is going to slice into that pie, helping himself to a normal-sized slice]

Now, aside from that incident with the trombones...how have you been faring?

[mayavericks]

[Her shoulders loosen, just a little. It's easier to breathe out now that she has warm tea and good company.]

Well enough. I've managed to keep up on my routines since arriving. I... think I might be in better form than ever, even.

[violentenvies]

Is that so?

[he's going to pour himself a cup of tea as well, adding a couple spoonfuls of sugar to it]

Congratulations, then. That is surly exciting for any performer to improve their art.

[mayavericks]

[A shrug.]

It is simply the way it is. If we do not improve, we are replaced.

[violentenvies]

[for a moment, there's a brief pause, a second of hesitation as he thinks about the title he was given.]

...true enough.

[mayavericks]

Fear not, Maestro. I have it on good authority that there will be no replacing you.

[Just... You know. Actually, don't worry about it.]

[violentenvies]

[that...is not what he expected. His attention refocuses on her, then, blinking once]

...is that so. [he makes sure his tone is only mildly curious, not showing any of the sudden desperation he feels for information that may counter what his title and fact have been saying]

[mayavericks]

Do you recall when I told you that it was an honor to receive praise from someone as esteemed as yourself? [She tilts her head just so.]

I recognized the aria you gave me. I have studied your work previously, Salieri-sensei. You made an incredible mark upon the musical world.

[That's...a surprise, to be honest. One can always hope that what they do and their compositions survive past them but...to hear that she not only knew of the aria (the complete aria), but had studied his work, it's not a relief to have the things he'd been turning over and over again in his head for the past several days proved false, but also there's a swell of pride at knowing that his music has reached such far places as Japan.]

[he huffs out a small chuckle, then, ducking his head briefly, before raising it again]

I... [Really, what does he say to that, exactly]

Thank you, Mademoiselle Maya. I cannot say it's not a relief to hear such a thing. Moreover, I'm flattered that a musician of your caliber and dedication would have studied my music enough to recognize an aria even before I've finished composing it. [the corner of his mouth curves into a small smile, that last part said with a mild humor]

It is something you deserve to hear. There are many things to doubt and fret over right now -- let your legacy not be one of them.
