Week One

[Yesterday, everyone woke up in a strange place and realized that they'd been kidnapped, and also that everyone else around them may or may not be kinnies? Wow, what a weird escalation of kin drama! Given what some people have seen of Spongebob's freaky arm thing, though, maybe it's not that at all?

Your Assistant Director, Hester, showed off her stuff and immediately had her life threatened by Lumpy Space Princess, who got her life threatened right back. Maybe you should keep that in mind if you decide to pay Hester any more visits! She won't be making another public appearance this week, but as promised, she'll be available for visits and consultation in the Principal's Office during business hours.

If you don't want to chat with Hester, there's always the school to explore! Some of you might also be receiving mysterious coins next to your bedside this week - those must be useful for something, right? There's lots to do, and you all seem like a group who can make your own fun, so enjoy your first week of school!]

[Okay, he’s recovered now. Curiosity has taken the wheel.]

Was that? It was small and furry and had glowing eyes.

Right! Um! Mumble, I'm so sorry, I should have warned you-

[Varian sits up a bit straighter with his hair a right mess thanks to sleeping weird, quickly brushing his bangs from his eyes before putting a hand atop the shaking lump beneath his covers.]

This is Ruddiger. He's my pet raccoon. He, uh...sort of...came out of the vending machine yesterday? I have no idea how he got in there, but I promise he wouldn't hurt a fly.

Oh.

[Well, that's a relief.]

Hi, Ruddiger. [He waves to the shaking lump, for whatever good it'll do.] Sorry for scaring you.

[A pause.]

H-hold up a second, they have animals in the machine?

[alchemistake]

Apparently? I found a lizard in there too...

[Actually, where is Varian keeping that lizard? The world may never know, but hopefully he's found a suitable home for it for the time being.]

So I'd just...be careful, if you planned to use that.

Thanks for the heads-up. [He'll brace himself for surprise pets.] Animals, though, in that machine -

[His face falls at the thought.]

I guess it's not that much worse than trapping us here. I can't understand why they'd do it, though.

Neither can I. Kidnapping all of us is one thing, but that seems...excessive.

[He'd say it's almost too cruel, but something something about serial killers and psychopaths starting their paths into darkness with animals before they transition to people.]

I should ask though, you...do you mind if Ruddiger stays here? Since he's...you know.

Mumble looks over to the cute little guy, or rather, the vague direction of where he is, and shakes his head.]

It's fine. He's your friend, right? So it's no problem.

[He's going to trust this tiny raccoon.]

He sure is! And if it helps at all, he's mostly a vegetarian from what I've seen. He'd rather eat an apple than anything else.

[Ruddiger nods, clueing Mumble in to the fact that 1) Varian is correct and 2) he can understand what they're saying]

[He's a singing cartoon animal; universal understanding is to be expected.]

I can't lie and say that's not a relief. [No hard feelings, Ruddiger.] ...How long have you two known each other?

[alchemistake]

Not that long, actually. Couple months now, maybe? He kept sneaking into my lab for food even after I kept putting him back out, so I decided to just let him stay with me. I don't mind the company, though.

[He smiles at the story.]

Could've fooled me - you two look like you're good friends already. [Ah, the bond between a boy and his raccoon.] Must be nice to know he's safe with you now. ...As safe as you can call being here after being trapped into a machine for who knows how long.

Oh yeah, I'm...a little concerned about how long he might have been in there, but I guess there's no reason to worry about that now. I just don't get why they'd put him in there instead of giving him to me from the start, you know?

[That's animal cruelty, yall.]

...Maybe they thought you needed to earn him?

[Wow that sounds fucked up.]

I mean...Maya was the one who found him, but she didn't until she put coins into the machine. It sounds like it doesn't pay attention to who is getting what, exactly.
