[Yesterday, everyone woke up in a strange place and realized that they'd been kidnapped, and also that everyone else around them may or may not be kinnies? Wow, what a weird escalation of kin drama! Given what some people have seen of Spongebob's freaky arm thing, though, maybe it's not that at all?

Your Assistant Director, Hester, showed off her stuff and immediately had her life threatened by Lumpy Space Princess, who got her life threatened right back. Maybe you should keep that in mind if you decide to pay Hester any more visits! She won't be making another public appearance this week, but as promised, she'll be available for visits and consultation in the Principal's Office during business hours.

If you don't want to chat with Hester, there's always the school to explore! Some of you might also be receiving mysterious coins next to your bedside this week - those must be useful for something, right? There's lots to do, and you all seem like a group who can make your own fun, so enjoy your first week of school!]

[It's cute, in a way. Even if she still feels ambivalent about having it in her room.]

I'm not the only one to make that decision. [She tilts her head, just a little.] He isn't rabid, is he?

Rabid? Oh, oh no-

[That gets Varian to laugh, though it's not like his time period really has a concept of vaccines on lockdown yet...]

He's just scared, see? Look, Ruddiger, this is my friend Maya. I promise she isn't going to hurt you.

[Ruddiger- who seems to actually respond to his name and in some way, somehow, understand what Varian is saying- peers around Varian's head at Maya. For a long moment he doesn't move until, eventually, he leans forward a bit to sniff cautiously at the air in her direction.]

She's just as scared of you as you are of her, I believe...neither of you got a chance to get off on the right foot.

[Maya isn't sure that she trusts it, considering how weird the raccoon is acting. But since Varian hasn't been viciously mauled just yet, she'll take it as a good sign. In fact, he seems relatively obedient -- something at a mindless, rabid creature probably wouldn't be.

Since "Ruddiger" is nosing forward, Maya reaches out a hand in kind. She holds it palm up.]

If you are a friend, then I have no intentions of harming you.

[Ruddiger seems UNSURE himself...but after he's sniffed at Maya's hand, he'll deem her safe and a Friend who doesn't want to trombone him to death-

Have you ever pet a Raccoon, Maya? Because Ruddiger is a slut for attention, and he's pushing his head against your hand much like a dog would.]

See? Perfectly harmless.

[Oh, this is... odd. It's very much like a cat, but... Very clearly not. Nevertheless, she scratches behind Ruddiger's ears with... very little experience, honestly. She's not the pet type, honestly.]

He's... sweet.

[Varian smiles, smoothing his hand down the Raccoon's back. He's glad to see he's calmed down some...he knows this atmosphere must be overwhelming, since they were just at his lab and all.]

I'll try to make sure he stays out of trouble...and out of the way. I doubt everybody is going to be as receptive to a wild raccoon in the building.

Just... Keep him from some of the others? [She glances around just a little skeptically.]

I don't trust Angus to not attempt to skin it. Or Spongebob not to make friends with it.

[The mention of being skinned actually causes Ruddiger to pull back slightly, giving one of those soft, raccoon chitters until Varian pets him again. Seems he CAN understand...]

Don't worry bud, it'll be alright. Anybody comes after you, they'll have to answer to me.

[Maya almost looks guilty at that. She's sympathizing with an animal, what the hell is going on here?]

You can come to me as well, if Varian-san is not available. Only if he is not available.

[Ruddiger nods.

Thanks, but don't worry about that too much. You'll end up spoiling him if you're not careful, and then you'll have a real problem on your hands.

I have no plans on spoiling him. Only protecting an ally of an ally.

[Which means if he plays his cards right, he might get pieces of food from time to time. Oops.]
