[Yesterday, everyone woke up in a strange place and realized that they'd been kidnapped, and also that everyone else around them may or may not be kinnies? Wow, what a weird escalation of kin drama! Given what some people have seen of Spongebob's freaky arm thing, though, maybe it's not that at all?

Your Assistant Director, Hester, showed off her stuff and immediately had her life threatened by Lumpy Space Princess, who got her life threatened right back. Maybe you should keep that in mind if you decide to pay Hester any more visits! She won't be making another public appearance this week, but as promised, she'll be available for visits and consultation in the Principal's Office during business hours.

If you don't want to chat with Hester, there's always the school to explore! Some of you might also be receiving mysterious coins next to your bedside this week - those must be useful for something, right? There's lots to do, and you all seem like a group who can make your own fun, so enjoy your first week of school!]

Oh, trust me, once I have my powers back, everyone will know right away.

In the meantime, however, I'll just use more mundane matters to cause some trouble for them. Without breaking their precious rules, of course.

Man, I sure do wish I could show you some of my alchemy right about now. I think I have a few concoctions you'd enjoy.

[He looks back at the door, imagining how far he'd be able to get with it if he had access to his old chemicals.]

My favorite is the compound I created for use as a pest trap. Anything that gets stuck in it is gonna be glued in place basically permanently without the antidote, also made by me.

[...Okay, honestly, that shouldn't be so intriguing but right now he has very little to work with and he has to get his fun where he can. And he can appreciate energy like this.]

Now that sounds like it's just full of potential. Oho, the fun I could have with that.

You really just use it as a pest trap?

Normally, but I'm not going to say it couldn't have practical applications in other situations.

I could do a LOT more than that, if I ever get my hands on the right chemicals. I want you to imagine a capsule you can throw into a room to just, bam, immediately clean the whole thing. Amazing, right? Well, my first few prototypes are also prone to sort of...filling the whole place with suds? Like, a lot of them? But it's fine, I mean it's a mess but it's a clean mess.

Now imagine throwing it right into the middle of a fancy get-together. The looks on everyone's faces. And how could they really complain, when you've just cleaned the place up!

[The perfect crime.]

Exactly! Absolutely no harm done whatsoever. Just a little mischief, that's all.

Just a little, well. I suppose sometimes an appetizer is nice, too.

But I'm sure you could set your sights even higher than that.

Thinking just a little bigger than pest control and cleaning gadgets. Let's say you had all the time and resources you wanted.

What would you do then?

I'd fix my village's hot water system I was working on, for starters. Right now it's...unstable, I'll admit. It's underground, and it...almost overheated not long ago.

[He almost blew his childhood home up but its FINE]

Maybe...I'd invent a better mode of transportation, something that isn't horse-drawn. [That's gonna sound weird.] I'd even create my own fuel for it.

Well, that's all very... noble and altruistic. [Gross.] And a little weird. Not the transportation thing, the horse part-- oh, whatever, different dimensions.

But after that? Remember, sky's the limit here.

[There's a long pause as Varian tries to think. What else, what else...]

I'd...make a truth serum.

[Well that sure is completely different. And he's not entirely sure where that idea came from, either. He just has a very deep, gut feeling that it would be useful.]

[There we go. Now that's something with substance to it.]

A truth serum, now there's an interesting thought. That could certainly be... useful. [The chaos that could cause...] You know, honesty is such a valuable and underrated virtue. People having to tell the truth, well, that would certainly improve things.

[It's true. You could potentially do a lot of things, from uncovering hidden atrocities to making sure people came to you if they ever wanted a problem properly mediated.

But there are downsides to being forced to tell the full truth all the time, which Varian knows well.]

Yeah...I guess you'd have to be really careful with it, though. Not that I'm saying you should go around lying, but...you know. There's benefits to a white lie.

Yes, of course, but... There's certainly plenty of times when it would be so much more convenient if people could be honest, wouldn't it? Even a white lie can cause a lot of trouble under the wrong circumstances.

No...you're right.

[Maybe he's focusing too much on the potential drawbacks. It's not...really bad if you intend it to be used for good, right?

I've...always wanted to learn how to make explosives, too.

[Okay now that's not good at all.]

Now there's an intriguing thought. Perhaps if we find just a few more supplies, well, no time like the present.

Oh, believe me- here is a perfect opportunity for testing all of that out.

I'd just...really have to be careful. Even if the doors and walls are somehow unbreakable, that doesn't mean we are.

[And even a small explosion could REALLY do damage to the surrounding area, even if it fails to make an escape for them.]
