Week One

[Yesterday, everyone woke up in a strange place and realized that they'd been kidnapped, and also that everyone else around them may or may not be kinnies? Wow, what a weird escalation of kin drama! Given what some people have seen of Spongebob's freaky arm thing, though, maybe it's not that at all?

Your Assistant Director, Hester, showed off her stuff and immediately had her life threatened by Lumpy Space Princess, who got her life threatened right back. Maybe you should keep that in mind if you decide to pay Hester any more visits! She won't be making another public appearance this week, but as promised, she'll be available for visits and consultation in the Principal's Office during business hours.

If you don't want to chat with Hester, there's always the school to explore! Some of you might also be receiving mysterious coins next to your bedside this week - those must be useful for something, right? There's lots to do, and you all seem like a group who can make your own fun, so enjoy your first week of school!]

[ An awkward smile and a quick nod is all the answer Maya gets before Peregrine slinks back in, opening the door a little wider. ]

You can grab a bite if you want. Kind of a jerk move to just eat in front of you.

[Maya follows after. No comments on her behavior. She's already figured out that Peregrine doesn't seem to handle social contact well. It's fine.]

I've already eaten, so focus on yourself. [She takes off her shoes at the door, before going to settle at a desk.]

[ She nods, then. After a moment, she asks: ]

Did you like, make this? [ She asks like it's the first time she's considered that. ]

[mayavericks]

[For a moment, just a moment, Maya looks sheepish.]

I apologize if it's of poor quality. I am not the most adept of cooks amongst my cohort.

[comeandfindme]

What? No, no, I don't care about that. [ She means nutrition is nutrition, but. ] ...You just...you didn't have to. Especially after yesterday.

[ She's surprised, is the thing. ]

[mayavericks]

Oh. [She shakes her head.]

We are all under heavy amounts of stress. Yesterday was far from the most awful thing I've seen happen. Egos run high in my school, after all.

...That sucks. If you're used to that chaos. [ But, after another moment— ] Thanks. For holding me back.

[mayavericks]

I wouldn't say it's quite the same level. But... we're all young girls, vying for stardom. Jealousy and emotions run high.

[comeandfindme]

So you're from some kinda...drama school? [ Peregrine takes a bite of the potato skins. ] ...This is good.

[mayavericks]

I'm glad. Potatoes are one of my favorite things to eat.

[Oops, she might be beaming. Just a little.]

But yes, I study at Seisho Music Academy. We spend three years learning all styles of singing, acting, and dancing.

[ Maya's done this for her, someone who's only made trouble so far...so maybe it's only right for Peregrine to actually listen to her. She'll munch on the potato skins, realizing quietly just how hungry she was and try not to let that show. ]

All three? You don't specialize in one thing or another?

[mayavericks]

[Maya lets out a small laugh, little more than a puff of air through her nose.]

It takes all three to be a proper stage girl, Peregrine-san. Could you imagine performing a heartwrenching ballad, but being stiff as a board and unable to properly emote during the process?

[ Stage girl? She wrinkles her nose in thought. ]

Oh, so like...musical theater? [ Takarazuka does not translate to the West...but god if only it did. ]

[mayavericks]

[She shrugs, just a little.]

It's a bit more intensive than you're imagining, but you have the right idea.

Sounds like you're...really passionate about it... We don't really have any uh, specialized art schools for high schoolers? At least none I've really heard of, so...good for you.

[mayavericks]

[It's not surprising, she's heard as much before. Still...]

How do you pursue your passions, if not while in school?

[comeandfindme]

...I don't know. The only thing I've really been passionate about lately isn't really something they teach in school.

[ That seems too much to talk about. Peregrine focuses on the potato skins. ]

Curriculum's pretty set-in-stone where I'm from.

[mayavericks]

I have spent a fair bit of time talking about myself. Would you care to enlighten me as to what you are interested in?

[comeandfindme]

Right now?

[ She pokes at her potato skin once and then skewers it entirely, popping the whole thing in her mouth. Once she swallows it, she responds: ]

Surviving. Survivalism, specifically.

[mayavericks]

[Maya's head tilts at that.]

Like... How to survive out in the woods?

[comeandfindme]

[ She nods. ]

Where I'm from... The whole town's surrounded by deep, deep woods. But they never teach us what we might need to know, if we get stuck out in it. So I'm learning, whether everyone wants me to, or not.

[mayavericks]

I suppose it would not be on the top of anyone's priority list, if they felt it was unlikely for you to get lost in the first place?

[Cellphones are a thing, right?]

It's good to take the initiative though.

[ Peregrine's serious expression dips to a frown. ]

No, it's not on anyone's priority list, which is why they weren't prepared when someone died. [ Her voice turns a little raw. So she dials it back. ] It's stupid of them to think it'd never happen. It's stupid, and if any of us knew better, we coulda done something instead.

[mayavericks]

[Maya shouldn't be surprised by the emotion in Peregrine's voice, considering the nature of her outburst the day prior. She couldn't really guess at the young woman's background, but...

Whatever this was, it was important.]

That makes learning all the more imperative, then. You can prevent the injuries of many others.

[comeandfindme]

I can. [ She looks back at her potato skins, skewering another with a fervor not previously seen. ] And I will.

I'll show all of 'em. I can take care of myself and maybe once they see that they'll wise up.
