Week One
[Yesterday, everyone woke up in a strange place and realized that they'd been kidnapped, and also that everyone else around them may or may not be kinnies? Wow, what a weird escalation of kin drama! Given what some people have seen of Spongebob's freaky arm thing, though, maybe it's not that at all?
Your Assistant Director, Hester, showed off her stuff and immediately had her life threatened by Lumpy Space Princess, who got her life threatened right back. Maybe you should keep that in mind if you decide to pay Hester any more visits! She won't be making another public appearance this week, but as promised, she'll be available for visits and consultation in the Principal's Office during business hours.
If you don't want to chat with Hester, there's always the school to explore! Some of you might also be receiving mysterious coins next to your bedside this week - those must be useful for something, right? There's lots to do, and you all seem like a group who can make your own fun, so enjoy your first week of school!]

(( OOC: This will be the last mod post for this week! Feel free to start submitting regains for any threads that aren't with Hester. Remember, song threads mean an extra coin! This is a peace week, so get all that CR while you can! ))

[She writes another measurement down.]
I'm from Malibu, California. Last I remember, it was 2007.
no subject
[Ah.]
California...Mexico, then?
[She's a little hazy on how American geography is going rn, sorry.]
Can you believe that isn't even the furthest year I've heard so far?
no subject
[She's cool, not everyone is going to know about Malibu!]
That's crazy. What's the latest you've heard?

[More measurements, more writing.]
I remember going to Vienna a couple summers ago. It was beautiful!
no subject
[That brightens her up.]
Oh, it's just a beautiful city, isn't it? So much culture and history to be had...but, I can only imagine how much grander everything must be in your time!
[And why wouldn't it be grand? Everything's ruled by the Habsburgs! From what Sissi's seen, they do not do small.]
I hope you at least got to see the roses in the Volksgarten, they are beautiful when they're in bloom!
no subject
[It's probably the same one, right? How many rose gardens can there be in Vienna.]
They've done a really good job preserving a lot of the old architecture, making sure the new stuff doesn't over shadow it and everything.
no subject
[She claps her hands together, it might just be!]
I'm so glad the empire is doing so well in the future, while not forgetting it's wonderful past!
no subject
[Has no one told her? Why does Elle does not feel qualified to do this!]
There aren't really empires at all in the future. Austria is still there, but it's like, a country, not an empire.
no subject
[That...doesn't sound promising.]
What do you mean by that?
no subject
[A gross oversimplification, and the Austro-Hungarian Empire technically fell after World War 1, but you know. Whatever.]
no subject
[What.]
Did-I'm sorry, mademoiselle, but did you just say-
[What.]
World...War...Two?
[W h a t.]
...I...
[It is suddenly colder than she remembers. World. War. It makes no sense.
The last great war was before she was born.
The Concert of Europe fixed things.
That-this--]

[Elle takes a deep breath.]
Okay, so there were a couple of wars that a bunch of countries fought, I'm not sure about World War 1, I think someone got assasinated and it made a bunch of countries angry at each other? World War 2 was because this guy was trying to take over the world and was also doing a bunch of horrible things and needed to be stopped.
[For the first time, Elle looks very hesitent.]
This isn't helping, is it?
no subject
The Concert was supposed to ensure the end of true conflict. All the powers were balanced. The world was set right. Even the events of 1848 had made things better. That's what she was told.
Everything had been solved, and even if there were small fights, the world was supposed to be at peace.]
Forgive me, mademoiselle, I-
[She steadies herself on the table.]
I...I need to sit.
no subject
[Elle pulls the chair from the sewing table over and helps guide the older woman down.]
Okay, just breath in and out nice and slow.
no subject
It takes a few minutes for her to really recover and say something.]
I...I am so sorry. I am just...the idea there would be any more great wars after Napoleon...and another madman trying to take over the world!
[And World War 2. Two.]
no subject
But everything turned okay! And Austria is still there and still beautiful!
no subject
[Or no news is good news????]
no subject
[She has no idea if that's really a country anymore, but saying that would probably only make the situation worse.]
no subject
[Well, if they're making chocolate-]
Though I would have thought the beer would have been of more interest, but if they've taken over from the Saxons and Rhinelanders, I can't complain!
