Week One

[Yesterday, everyone woke up in a strange place and realized that they'd been kidnapped, and also that everyone else around them may or may not be kinnies? Wow, what a weird escalation of kin drama! Given what some people have seen of Spongebob's freaky arm thing, though, maybe it's not that at all?

Your Assistant Director, Hester, showed off her stuff and immediately had her life threatened by Lumpy Space Princess, who got her life threatened right back. Maybe you should keep that in mind if you decide to pay Hester any more visits! She won't be making another public appearance this week, but as promised, she'll be available for visits and consultation in the Principal's Office during business hours.

If you don't want to chat with Hester, there's always the school to explore! Some of you might also be receiving mysterious coins next to your bedside this week - those must be useful for something, right? There's lots to do, and you all seem like a group who can make your own fun, so enjoy your first week of school!]

My parents were both performers. I carry that legacy in my blood and bones.

Oh, that's great! My dad's a farmer...which, I guess I fell a little far from that tree.

[He shrugs one shoulder after glancing back down at his feet to make sure he's not about to step on hers; it's something he's accepted at this point.]

[He's done a good job of not doing that so far. Not that Maya can't handle it. She's used to the clumsier girls of her school, after all.]

I imagine there's less pressure that way?

Oh, you'd...be surprised.

[Varian purses his lips, looking off to the side.]

My dad doesn't exactly approve of the work that I do. Not that I blame him...I'm causing accidents left and right. But it's not for lack of trying, these things just take...time.

If he'd be more patient with me, he'd see that.

[mayavericks]

That's science, is it not? It is not based in success, but in theorizing and experimentation?

[She supposes that, knowing what little of Varian's time that she does, science might be a little more prone to error but... She can hardly blame him for a few mistakes, especially considering his age.]

You shouldn't be afraid of pursuing what pleases you.

[alchemistake]

Yeah....thanks. I'm glad you think so.

[Because she's right. He's bound to make mistakes, that's just the nature of the thing.]

Honestly, I think Dad just...doesn't fully understand it. Science isn't something most people pursue where I'm from.

[mayavericks]

Then you are a trailblazer. The first of your kind. [She tips her chin up.]

It is always a difficult path, but it's a noble pursuit. I can only imagine the success you will find.

[alchemistake]

A trailblazer, huh...you know, I like the sound of that.

[And just for that little confidence boost, he'll give Maya a (careful) twirl.]

It takes tons of failures to succeed, so I just gotta keep trying.

[Maya isn't used to being the one being twirled but... She maintains her grace.]

You know, being that we are in a school, there's always a chance that there's a chemistry lab somewhere. Perhaps with luck, we'll be able to put your skills to the test.

[alchemistake]

Really? You think so?

[Oh god, please. It would likely contain chemicals Varian has never even seen or heard of; the others might not see him again for a long time if that ever appeared.]

Geeze, I had no idea places like this could have so many different facilities. I wouldn't be surprised though, I guess...the building seems to be a lot bigger than what we can actually get to right now.

[mayavericks]

Science is incredibly important in my time. The best minds in our world are scientists. Most schools want to encourage that line of thinking as early as possible.

You would fit in quite well in this day and age, I think.

[alchemistake]

[The best minds...god, it makes Varian wish he were born in a much later century.]

Sounds like I was born in the wrong era, huh?

[mayavericks]

Maybe, maybe not. I can only imagine how little has been discovered in your world. You could bring any amount of innovations to Corona, ones that have been invented and forgotten in my time.

It is as they say -- the world is your oyster.

[alchemistake]

Yeah, you're not wrong about that...I mean, you know the way these lights here are all...mechanical? That's not a technology we have back home.

[Just candles and lanterns and the like.]

I'd love to figure that out.

[mayavericks]

Might I recommend a kite with a key attached to it?

[She laughs faintly at her own joke.]

[Varian snickers at that, in kind.]

That sounds like a good way to get myself killed.

Oh, probably. [She shakes her head.]

I'm afraid I'm not as trained in the sciences as I could be. I only know the basics of energy transference. Otherwise, I would be glad to give you pointers.

[alchemistake]

Well hey, there's always opportunities to learn. If I ever get my hands on any chemicals I can work with in this place, I'd be glad to teach you a few things.
