Week One

[Yesterday, everyone woke up in a strange place and realized that they'd been kidnapped, and also that everyone else around them may or may not be kinnies? Wow, what a weird escalation of kin drama! Given what some people have seen of Spongebob's freaky arm thing, though, maybe it's not that at all?

Your Assistant Director, Hester, showed off her stuff and immediately had her life threatened by Lumpy Space Princess, who got her life threatened right back. Maybe you should keep that in mind if you decide to pay Hester any more visits! She won't be making another public appearance this week, but as promised, she'll be available for visits and consultation in the Principal's Office during business hours.

If you don't want to chat with Hester, there's always the school to explore! Some of you might also be receiving mysterious coins next to your bedside this week - those must be useful for something, right? There's lots to do, and you all seem like a group who can make your own fun, so enjoy your first week of school!]

Well, there you go.

[He has no idea what he's talking about.

But he leans up against the wall, cranes his neck at the selection, and - with a glance at Janis - snakes himself a Kit-Kat. It still feels a little weird to just do things, just because he feels like, but he guesses he's getting used to it.]

I feel like I've been learning so much stuff the past few days. It's interesting.

[ She looks back over the selection as well. ]

[It's far more contemplative than the original. The Balladeer leans against the wall, fiddling thoughtfully with the wrapper around the Kit-Kat rather than opening it directly. He smiles, a little wistfully.]

Acting like a real person's pretty interesting.

[ She watches and listens for a moment, thinking it over. ]

I mean... who says you aren't a person?

[The Balladeer thinks about that for a moment.]

Life? I mean, I didn't even get a name or a backstory.

Uh... sure, okay, but.

[ She thinks for a moment. ]

I mean as far as I can tell, you're a person? You got... legs, and you can eat Twix bars, we can rule out a lot of things you could be just based on that.

[The Balladeer laughs.]

Iiiiii don't know. I know a lot of folks that've never eaten a Twix bar in their life.

Right, but like. It's not the measure of a man or whatever, but it takes being a person to be able to eat a Twix bar, you know?

[ Points at the Kit Kat. ]

And before you start talking about me telling you to eat it, you picked that one out yourself.

[He looks down at it as if remembering it's there, then starts peeling it open.]

Salieri said just about the same thing. That I'm as close to being a real person now as I've ever been, at least. I guess I'm just not used to the idea. Being someone who actually does things and chooses things. [.....] I mean, I don't mean to make it sound like my whole life's been awful!

[For the most part, he's only had one or two really bad things happen to him!]

That's just the nature of the thing.

I mean... not having free will is a pretty weird thought, but uh. Welcome to full personhood, I guess.

[ She takes a contemplative sip of Sprite. ]

I mean full disclosure I don't totally get your whole situation, but I'm just sort of assuming it's self-aware-AI-adjacent.

Don't worry about it, nobody really does.

[Which is a little bit disheartening, but he says it without too much negativity. Frankly he's just glad people are taking his word for it at all; there were a few too many people just treating him like a nutjob on the first day, and that had him a little concerned for how this was all gonna go.]

Which is fair! I know you're all...you know. [He waves a hand. People.] God, is it really like that? I'm supposed to be a sort of Pete Seeger type, it literally says that in my character description. I can't think of anything less sci-fi.
