Week One

[Yesterday, everyone woke up in a strange place and realized that they'd been kidnapped, and also that everyone else around them may or may not be kinnies? Wow, what a weird escalation of kin drama! Given what some people have seen of Spongebob's freaky arm thing, though, maybe it's not that at all?

Your Assistant Director, Hester, showed off her stuff and immediately had her life threatened by Lumpy Space Princess, who got her life threatened right back. Maybe you should keep that in mind if you decide to pay Hester any more visits! She won't be making another public appearance this week, but as promised, she'll be available for visits and consultation in the Principal's Office during business hours.

If you don't want to chat with Hester, there's always the school to explore! Some of you might also be receiving mysterious coins next to your bedside this week - those must be useful for something, right? There's lots to do, and you all seem like a group who can make your own fun, so enjoy your first week of school!]

[ Eurydice has four coins to stick into the strange machine. And then, all of a sudden, she has a rather fresh deer skin. ]

Ugh.

[ Eurydice peels it off from where it landed (her face, f) and examines it closer. Gross, but useful. She calls out to Maya: ]

Hey, thanks.

[Face still bloodstained, Maya turns an incredulous look on Eurydice.]

Are you enjoying yourself, then?

[ Eurydice genuinely frowns at that and wipes some of the blood off with her sleeve. ]

I mean -- no, not really. This is disgusting. But the hide is useful. Good for leather, which is helpful in all sorts of situations. Have you ever made leather before?

Who just... makes leather?

[Don't mind her, continuing to wiggle out from beneath her pile. She's too busy to maintain her cool]

People who can't afford to buy it.

[ Eurydice snaps that back -- it seems like Maya's struck a nerve!

She sighs. Clearly, Maya is upset. Eurydice can't hold that against her. She steps forward. ]

Do you want...help?

[mayavericks]

[The response is... entirely unexpected. She hadn't meant anything untoward, though now that Eurydice has spoken, she can't say that she's surprised. She blinks at the second question before... nodding.]

If you wouldn't mind. [She hates asking for help, but... There's no getting out of this situation by herself.

And while they work, Maya consider how she'll make it up to Eurydice.]

[ Eurydice nods briskly, and begins removing trombones from the pile. There are so many. Why are there so many? Why do the gods do anything, honestly?

Once Maya is nearly free, Eurydice will confess: ]

I don't really have a lot of practice making leather, though. I think you boil it? You can help, if you want.

[ It's an olive branch, for snapping at Maya earlier. (Unfortunately, that's not how you make leather at all, but at least Eurydice's trying to do something with it?) ]

[Between the two of them, Maya's able to wiggle her way on out. She clambers to her feet with a heavy sigh, dusting at her legs.]

Unfortunately, I am entirely unfamiliar with the process. It has to be dried first though, does it not?

[ That.....sounds reasonable. Eurydice nods. ]

Yes, and salted too, I think. And we'll have to do something about the fur. I was going to take it to the kitchen.

[mayavericks]

That... sounds about right.

[Maya doesn't actually know shit about shit but! She'll go with it.]

It's better than doing nothing with my time, I suppose.

[howtheworldwas]

[ That's the spirit! Eurydice rolls up the nasty deer skin so they don't get blood everywhere, and off they go!

In the meantime, Eurydice does her best to make small talk, which is...not her favorite activity. ]

So, uh. You don't go outside much, huh?

[mayavericks]

Sorry? [She tilts her head, almost looking offended. Almost.]

What would lead you to assume that?

Because the skin upset you. It's pretty much impossible to make it out there without seeing at least some of this stuff.

We must be from drastically different places, then. Only specialists handle raw carcasses anymore.

They've reached the kitchen! Eurydice spreads the skin out on the long metal countertop, banking on the fact that she can probably wash it later. ]

Where are you from, then? I'm from America.

[mayavericks]

America, really?

[She looks a little surprised about that. America is a pretty fucked up place, but having to skin things?

... Okay maybe it's not so surprising.]
