Week One
[Yesterday, everyone woke up in a strange place and realized that they'd been kidnapped, and also that everyone else around them may or may not be kinnies? Wow, what a weird escalation of kin drama! Given what some people have seen of Spongebob's freaky arm thing, though, maybe it's not that at all?
Your Assistant Director, Hester, showed off her stuff and immediately had her life threatened by Lumpy Space Princess, who got her life threatened right back. Maybe you should keep that in mind if you decide to pay Hester any more visits! She won't be making another public appearance this week, but as promised, she'll be available for visits and consultation in the Principal's Office during business hours.
If you don't want to chat with Hester, there's always the school to explore! Some of you might also be receiving mysterious coins next to your bedside this week - those must be useful for something, right? There's lots to do, and you all seem like a group who can make your own fun, so enjoy your first week of school!]

(( OOC: This will be the last mod post for this week! Feel free to start submitting regains for any threads that aren't with Hester. Remember, song threads mean an extra coin! This is a peace week, so get all that CR while you can! ))

[ Eurydice pulls out a few sheets of paper and a pen, and crosses off apples. She sighs. There goes the fruit supply. ]
What are you doing with the apples? Making sauce?
[ That's not a bad idea, at least. It's a decent way to preserve them. ]
no subject
Ah, no. I'm making short mead. [....] Might I ask what you're working on? [he nods to the list--and is pulling back one of that gallon jar of honey he was pouring into that pot now that it's empty, setting it aside next to the six other full ones.]
no subject
[ Eurydice sounds almost shocked about this. ]
Mead isn't a great way to preserve the apples, but... [ Eurydice trails off, and then sighs. She knows she can't tell this guy what to do, but she wishes he'd be a little more practical about things. ] ... I guess the people here will enjoy it. So that's good.
no subject
[as for that other thing...]
I...haven't seen any signs of this kitchen running out of food yet, however.

[ Said mildly, like this is typical. ]
Maya thinks the Wizard is feeding us in exchange for a performance, but I'm not so sure.
no subject
In that case...why do you think the Wizard is feeding us?
no subject
[ It sucks, but what can you do? ]
That's why it's important to conserve what we have.
1/2
...admittedly, I hadn't thought of it that way.
2/2
no subject
And that's...a really reasonable compromise, actually. Eurydice's tone gets a tiny bit warmer. ]
That's not a bad idea. You're sure it won't mess up your recipe?
[ He seems to be working very hard on it. ]

I can help you peel them. Here.
[ And with that, she gets to work! She's pretty good with a knife. ]
no subject
Thank you, Madame. [and he'll pick one up, getting to peeling as well. He's not nearly as fast as she is--he's clearly out of practice, but he does alright.]
If you'd indulge me, I'm curious...How did you and Monsieur Orpheus meet?
no subject
We met at the cafe where he worked. I was looking for a bite to eat, and he sang me a song. [ She smiles to herself, small and fond. ] That wasn't really what I was looking for, but also...it was, you know?
no subject
no subject
It wasn't fate. It was...I don't know. Something else.
[ Time to very obviously change the topic of conversation! ]
What's your life like? Before you came here?
no subject
Ah, well...at current, I live in Vienna, in Austria. I'm a composer there, and I compose commissions for the Emperor, the church, or whomever else requests one.
no subject
Eurydice is grateful Salieri is playing along, though. At this, she actually looks back up at him. ]
Oh, so you're like Orpheus, but for kings and presidents. [ That sounds like serious business. ] Do you like what you do?
no subject
[he sets another apple peel aside, reaching for another] And you?
no subject
[ Eurydice may not be, strictly speaking, the friendliest of people, but there's an earnest, almost wistful tone to her voice that suggests she's not just offering a platitude.
Salieri's life is definitely a tough act to follow. He knows Orpheus, though, so he probably knows not to expect kings or riches or full-time jobs. ]
Oh, it's not much. I traveled a lot, before I met Orpheus. We got married pretty recently, and I don't think I'm going to have to move around so much anymore. I'm looking forward to it.
[ Once they get out of this weird school, that is. Eurydice starts slicing the peeled apples. ]
no subject
I'm sure you're eager to start your life together.
no subject
[ Her smile returns, a little stronger this time. She's very excited, and hopeful, too -- for the first time in a while. Her optimism is cautious, but it's there all the same. ]
I am. I think...things are looking up, even if we are all stuck here for a little while.
no subject
I'm glad to hear that. I know Monsieur Orpheus is working on a composition to bring balance back between Lord Hades and Lady Persephone...[he glances at her] If you don't mind me asking, what is your vocation, that has seen you travel so much?
no subject
It's so I can find food. When one town dries up, I move onto the next. Sometimes I can pick up the odd job here or there, but I don't think that's what you meant.
[ Her comment about the apples might now make a bit more sense. ]
no subject
Oh.
THAT will make him go quiet for a moment.]
Not...precisely, no. [. . . . .] Forgive me, but...is there some measure of calamity happening, then, where you and Monsieur Orpheus are from?
