[From the day you arrived on the planet, and blinking, stepped into the sun. There's more to see than can ever be seen, and more to do than can ever be done. Yet, still, the whole thing seems...monotonous. Surely there must be some excitement, some showmanship, some sort of plot twist that could keep this show moving onward?

The oldest "ghost story" from my school...is about the "Bookmark of Demise." Ten years ago, four students were brutally murdered. It was never solved, and the teachers rarely talk of it...but there's a rumor passed among the students. They died because they found a blank book and a cat bookmark - the Book and Bookmark of Demise.

They say you must never touch it, because tragedy will befall you if you do. ...But they also say it's the key to solving the mystery of how and why those four died.

[D-ne smiles!]

It's a rather horrifying story and I don't know much about it, but it's what my club is dedicated to finding.

...I can get behind the whole haunted book thing, but a bookmark? That's, like, one piece of paper. With a cat on it.

It does sound like a silly thing to be worried about, doesn't it? But, all sorts of urban legends seem that way. Something so ordinary, being dangerous.

I guess. I've never heard one that used bookmarks as a plot point, though.

Do you think it's true?

Hmmm... It would be amazing if it was, wouldn't it? [She hesitates.] I'm not sure. Maybe...but I would never want to invoke its power.

[robitussin]

Right. The power of the cat bookmark.

[she's trying so hard to keep a straight face]

...You still think it's silly, don't you? [patented smile] It's alright, you can say so. Honestly... I didn't used to be so interested in these sorts of things either.

It kind of does.

What got you interested in it?

Well... The girl I love.

[D-ne's smile becomes wistful]

She's very interested in rumors and legends. Being in the club is a way to spend time with her away from the rest of the school.

Oh - the ribbon.

[suddenly it makes sense]

So she was really into that kind of thing, too?

B-ko-chan's... She gets so lively when there's a rumor to look into, in a way I never thought I'd see her. If she loves something so much, of course it makes sense to try and see what draws her.

That's cool, I guess. How long have you been together?

[Blink.]

What? Toge... Oh! Oh, no no no, I- [She laughs! Nervous! And kind of sad!] I didn't mean to- we're not...together.

Okay. So you just want to be? Am I understanding your relationship drama correctly?

Y-yes... But, she's... She's perfect, and I'm just...well, just me. And besides, there's someone else she likes.

[robitussin]

Dude, do not even begin with that. Nobody's perfect, that's bullshit. The other part... Yeah, that sucks, but come on.

B-but she is! [here we fucking go]

B-ko-chan... She's sweet and polite, and brilliant! The most popular girl in school...but she's so much more than that! Her passion, her energy... She's made the perfect image for herself, and still...gets so excited and vibrant...and she lets me see that side of her.

[she's practically swooning jfc]

And...she's no reason to, but she's kind to me. She makes me feel so...full inside, when normally it's...

[She smiles.]

You probably...think I'm weird, don't you?

I don't think you're weird. I think you have a serious fixation on this girl, and I know nobody is perfect, so.

[she shrugs]

To each their own, though. You know her better than I do, since I don't know her at all.

[That surprises her, but all at once relieves her as well. It's not like she cares what other people think about how much she loves B-ko, but. Still.]

M-mm... Well, thank you, then...

Do... Do you have anyone you like?

[robitussin]

[she shakes her head.]

Nope. Flying solo for now. I'm leaving home next year, so it's easier that way.

[because she remains blissfully ignorant of regains.]

Ah... Of course, if you're going off to college soon. ...That is what you're talking about, right?

Yeah. I'm trying for a school on the other side of the country, so it would be kind of uncool to start something and then bail.

Mm. I...really haven't thought that far ahead yet. Are your studies very important to you?

[robitussin]

[she nods.]

Yeah. I want to study music.

What grade are you in?

Eleventh. Next year I have to start taking entrance exams.
