[Well, all escape attempts have failed thus far. None of you have seen the Phantom since his brief appearance on Sunday, or heard from him at all. It looks like, for the time being, you’re all going to be stuck here.

You're free to continue exploring your surroundings to your hearts' content. The only real restriction on your movements is that the kitchen is closed between the hours of 10 pm and 7 am. Better make sure to grab any midnight snacks you may want ahead of time. Also, remember to label any investigation toplevels!

The Merchandise Booth is now open for business as well! The Phantom hasn't deigned to explain how it works, but...well, some of you will start to find mysterious coins in your rooms, and the Booth's got a place to put coins. You'll figure it out.

Should you wish to engage more with your host, you're welcome to drop letters in the box office slot. There's no set way to converse verbally with him, and he's certainly not guaranteed to respond if you just yell at the walls - but that doesn't necessarily mean he isn't listening. Just something to keep in mind.

[Christine stubbornly starts pressing on the bricks, checking for any that might be loose. All the while, she's still stubbornly calling out for someone on the other side to answer.]

[The door opens! You emerge onto a short hallway. It ends at a series of rungs set into the wall. There's a trapdoor which suggests these might continue downwards, but it's locked. The only way to proceed is up, towards what looks like another trapdoor in the ceiling.]

[Sadly, the bricks seem pretty sturdy. Basically like normal bricks. This is like, the platonic ideal of a brick wall.]

H-He wasn't that mean to me! He was, um, playing hard to get?

[Christine knows for a fact how stupid that sounds, which is why she's already shrinking away from Riley.]

[Angus makes a mental note to quest for the key that will unlock this wizard hatch and lead to their ultimate escape.

For now, he will rise on the ladder to open this second trapdoor!]

[Yeah, she actually makes that noise. She actually does sound quite like a frustrated tiger of sorts. Someone's been listening to the Cats soundtrack too many times.

Perhaps he once owned this theater and is bitter that he no longer has anyone to work for him.

[ It's a damn shame, but it means she gets to explain it to someone! Her eyes light up and she stands a bit taller. ]

[There's a cheerful voice behind Stephen, and Christine arrives, gently setting down a bucket and mop in the corner of the room.]

I don't know. I think the Phantom's definitely working with someone, though. I can't see how one person could do all this, no matter how smart they are.

[Whether it be divine intervention or simply coincidence, Ariel comes upon Christine just as he's beginning to search for her. He's still skeptical about these acting classes of hers, but in the interest of maintaining the interest he'd held yesterday, he decides to keep his word.

Anything to spare the opera house from one last hysterical teenager. Though... by the looks of things, he may be a little late.]

Are you searching for something in particular, my friend?

[ Riley holds in a sigh. ]

Christine. You're a sweet, passionate, and nice girl. You deserve much better than a mean ol' ghost. Or, really obsessed guy in a mask. Whichever it is. Or, you know, you could just...focus on your drive, your goals! I meant it when I said your dedication to theater is admirable.

[He'd thought himself a man of science, but machines that sprayed water and cooked baked goods without an open flame were beyond him.]

I am afraid not. Large, stone ovens with a constantly maintained flame, perhaps, but nothing so advanced as this.

The Phantom in the story did everything by himself...bbbuut that can't be this guy, because that's just a story, and not real.

[ Said like she's reminding herself. ]

Did you see anything, anyone, other than him...?

[Ariel has the courtesy to bite back his surprise, even his discomfort. There's a glimmer in her eyes that he knows intimately, the light of passion for a subject that ran deep into the soul. He doesn't understand what purpose this song serves, why anyone would need such inspiration, but at least he knows what it feels like to find something so important.

And if nothing else, it's catchy, and it makes something swell deep within his soul. He feels energized, hearing it. And when she goes quiet, Ariel begins to clap.]

I can see why you care so deeply for the role. It's rekindled my energy, I can say that much.
