Week Five

[Last week, you had your very first minor body pileup! Granted, the Balladeer's death was entirely unrelated to anything, but at least he died as he lived - getting completely fucked up in some kind of carnival-themed hellscape. Only two days later, another terrible accident took Rina and Varian both from you. It's just been one of those weeks, huh? At least you got to add both of their corpses to your weird growing collection!

Again, you'll wake up this morning with another new snippet of memory. You'll also find that the stairs in the lobby are no longer blocked. You can only access one part of the second floor, but it seems like there's some neat stuff up there!

Outside, a few things seem to have changed. For one, the weather has turned - it'll be overcast this week, with periodic rain and even scattered thunderstorms. For another, the bushes around that rock out by the football field have bloomed. That's nice.

...Are you okay? You seem kind of on edge. [ more so than usual. ] Is the dark bothering you?

[Maya glances at Eurydice, and then down to her twiddling fingers.]

Ever since the ghosts, I have been... on edge.

Do you...not like ghosts?

[ or is more of a mourning dead friends situation? Eurydice honestly isn't sure. either of those are perfectly upsetting. ]

[Well... since they're all stuck there and there's no such thing as secrets anymore.]

I have... Never liked them. I am. Afraid, even.

[ Eurydice nods, sympathetic. ]

I get that. But you know there's nothing to be afraid of, right? I mean, look at Farrah and I. You aren't scared of us.

[mayavericks]

Farrah is... different. And you --

[Hang on.]

Wait. Eurydice-san, what are you saying?

I'm dead. [ Said very matter-of-fact. ] Been that way for at least a week.

[mayavericks]

This is -- The first you have said of this.

[It's hardly surprising, considering what she knows of Eurydice's story. However --]

Does Orpheus-san know?

[howtheworldwas]

[ a bitter huff of a laugh. ]

Oh, trust me. He knows. He's trying to bring me back to the living world -- or at least, that's the last thing we remember.

[mayavericks]

That's... Good then.

[Funny, how she doesn't sound too convinced. How could she, knowing what she does of their story.]

I don't think he will let you down.

[howtheworldwas]

[ ............what's with that tone of voice? ]

I don't think he will, either. I know he doesn't plan on it. But it's a lot to ask of someone. [ a beat. ] Something still on your mind?

[mayavericks]

Oh -- [She shakes her head.]

It just... reminds me of a story I read when I was a child. It had something of a sad ending.

[howtheworldwas]

[ oh. huh. ] Well, it's just a story, right? Real life is a lot more complicated.

[ ... ]

What happened, at the end?

[mayavericks]

You're right, of course. Just look at all of this.

[Vague motions at... everything.]

I would rather not taint this place with any more sad stories. I can... Tell you once we are free of this place.

Okay. [ she'll offer Maya a half-smile. ] It's a deal. I'll ask you then.
