Week Five

[Last week, you had your very first minor body pileup! Granted, the Balladeer's death was entirely unrelated to anything, but at least he died as he lived - getting completely fucked up in some kind of carnival-themed hellscape. Only two days later, another terrible accident took Rina and Varian both from you. It's just been one of those weeks, huh? At least you got to add both of their corpses to your weird growing collection!

Again, you'll wake up this morning with another new snippet of memory. You'll also find that the stairs in the lobby are no longer blocked. You can only access one part of the second floor, but it seems like there's some neat stuff up there!

Outside, a few things seem to have changed. For one, the weather has turned - it'll be overcast this week, with periodic rain and even scattered thunderstorms. For another, the bushes around that rock out by the football field have bloomed. That's nice.

[Those definitely aren't the usual footprints. If someone that was used to being in here were trying to sneak out, they would have at least a better grasp of which sections of the floor are the loudest.

Which is why Cassandra freezes at the sound of her name... on a particularly loud floorboard. Wonderful.]

[She is definitely moving away from the direction of Elsa's bed. Fully dressed, if that's what Peregrine is searching for.]

...Yeah. I guess I did.

[Last night was a depressing blur.]

[ Fully dressed, yes! Is she in pajamas or...? ]

You don't remember?

[ She moves to sit up, just a little—but the blanket starts to slip from around her and she pulls it closer. ]

[No pajamas! Just her usual, everyday attire. Seems she might have gone to bed in it.]

...No. No, I remember. [Don't say it. Don't say it-] Elsa suggested it, and, uh...

...Oh. Ohh. I see.

[ Now, Peregrine's a little...not okay, right now, but. Still, she gives Cassandra a look, an almost knowing one. ]

Do you think this is gonna be a...regular thing?

[Knowing? What's there to know? Cassandra doesn't know anything, never has in her entire life. Just look at this face.]

I, uh.

[Glances behind her. when she looks back, her expression has... softened?]

I don't know? Actually? Maybe? I don't... usually do this.

Well...if you both wanna... You should. You never... You never really know, when you might...not be able to.

...You're right. I, um... just. We didn't do anything, if that's what you're thinking.

[ Whatever she thinks about what they did, she doesn't say! ]

Peregrine doesn't say this. Instead, she bites down hard on her lower lip. ]

I don't— I don't know. It's... [ Peregrine shivers. ] I don't know.

[Cassandra nods, and for the first time in this conversation, she lets herself relax. She moves over to Peregrine's cot - close enough to, well, be closer, but not so close that she's touching the bed.]

Hey, I get it. Trust me. It's your business. But I also know that you've got a lot of friends around here, so if you want to talk... I'm not going to judge you. No pressure.

[comeandfindme]

...Thanks, Cass. I'll...

[ She hesitates. ]

[You can only ask that someone comes to you for help when they're ready.]
