Week Five

[Last week, you had your very first minor body pileup! Granted, the Balladeer's death was entirely unrelated to anything, but at least he died as he lived - getting completely fucked up in some kind of carnival-themed hellscape. Only two days later, another terrible accident took Rina and Varian both from you. It's just been one of those weeks, huh? At least you got to add both of their corpses to your weird growing collection!

Again, you'll wake up this morning with another new snippet of memory. You'll also find that the stairs in the lobby are no longer blocked. You can only access one part of the second floor, but it seems like there's some neat stuff up there!

Outside, a few things seem to have changed. For one, the weather has turned - it'll be overcast this week, with periodic rain and even scattered thunderstorms. For another, the bushes around that rock out by the football field have bloomed. That's nice.

[ Eurydice has no clue how to operate a motor vehicle, but she sees Spongebob looking frightened, and that's enough of a reason to approach! She peers through the window, plainly concerned. ]

Are you...okay? You can always get out of the car, you know.

[employeeoftheyear]

[Spongebob jumps a little when Eurydice peers at him. He takes a moment to recover before flashing her a nervous smile.]

Oh, it's okay! I've been thinking and I...

I wanna put Varian's gift to us to good use! And I wanna get better at driving!

[howtheworldwas]

[ Varian's gift. That twists something sharp and painful in her stomach. He's right. Varian's gift shouldn't go to waste. Driving this car must be a way of remembering him.

Eurydice wants to do that, too. So she climbs into the car, sitting in the passenger seat. ]

Well, you're probably better than me. Let's see what you can do.

[ For Varian. ]

[Spongebob looks even more nervous as Eurydice climbs into the car.]

W-well, I'm really better at the written portion. I've never been really good at the driven portion.

They make you write something to drive? What does that have anything to do with anything?

Well it's so you know the rules of the road, of course! You can't drive if you don't know what a Stop sign tells you!

[howtheworldwas]

[ oh ok that's reasonable

gonna go out on a limb here: ]

It tells you to stop, yeah? [ look at her she's halfway to driving already ]

Wow you're a natural! Are you sure you don't wanna do this instead?

[He is honestly hoping she says yes.]

...for varian. and also because spongebob looks kind of nervous. ]

Sure. Okay. Let's switch places. Just tell me what buttons to press.

[Eurydice will live to see another day.]

Okay! I can do that! It'll work up my nerve a bit, too!

[howtheworldwas]

[ that does not inspire a lot of confidence but okay, spongebob. let's do this.

once she settles into the driver's seat: ]

Okay. What first?

[employeeoftheyear]

[In the passenger seat, Spongebob immediately eases up. His brain feels clear and he happily leans over to help out Eurydice.]

Ok, you see the key right there? [He points to the key in the ignition slot.] You got to turn that to start the car!

[howtheworldwas]

[ Eurydice turns the key, and revs the hell out of the engine. Thankfully, the car does not yet go anywhere. ]

Okay. How do I make it go?

[employeeoftheyear]

[He scrambles a bit when she revs the engine, grabbing her by the shoulder and pointing to her feet.]

Okay, you see those two pedals near your feet? The big one is the "break" and the smaller one is the "gas". I want you to push the big pedal and move this gear [Points to the gear shift.] to D for "Drive"!

[howtheworldwas]

[ she does as instructed! the car does not actually go anywhere because eurydice has not pressed down on the gas, so mostly, she's just kind of confused. ]

Am I...supposed to be moving?
