Week Four

[Last week, Gershwin High School Academy University saw its very first intentional murder! What a milestone! And right after Spongebob's No Murder party, too - that doesn't seem like it bodes very well for anybody's future.

You all wake up this morning with yet another new memory returned to you. You'll also find that the school's external doors have now unlocked. Congratulations! You're free! Unfortunately, you also seem to be entirely in the middle of nowhere. So maybe it's more of a symbolic victory.

Still, you should look around and do some investigation! Maybe you'll find a fun surprise.]

He is a fictional character?

Yeah. I think it was a book or something first, then dome guy wrote a musical for it. It's super popular.

[Elle's eyebrows scrunch together.]

Wait, why do you ask?

I met a man calling himself that. I was captured with other people in a building with similar “rules” as this one.

[Its a huge bomb to drop on someone, and Angus needs a moment to gather his own thoughts. The man he saw could not be real. He was using a persona. That explains some of the reactions of the others.]

[Elle's eyebrows draw together in a mix of confusion and concern.]

Wait, this has happened before?

I think so.

No one else was from my universe, but there was Maya's rival. Riley was there. All did not remember coming there.

And yet...this was before I fought Zargothrax. I should have remembered this for months. Why don't I remember?

[He looks at Elle with fear in his eyes. Please, help him figure this out.]

[The look of fear in Angus' eyes makes Elle uncomfortable for reasons she isn't entirely sure of.

She closes her book and pats the empty spot of blanket next to her.]

Come here, sit down. Let's work this out.

[He drops onto the blanket, leans back on his hands, and sighs. He has a few gifts for Elle again, more useful than a dessert, but that can come later.]

Maya recognizes the sword in the photo from the other week. The owner was trapped with me in the opera house, yet according to her, all are alive. I want to believe that this means that escape is possible, and yet...is it not concerning how this has happened before and no one remembers?

Well, we all lost coming here, right? Maybe some people lived through it and forgot, like you.

[Elle grins, putting a hand on Angus's leg.]

I know it's freaky, but this is great news! It means there's a chance we can get out!

Yes... [He bites his lip.] But this a wizard who can wipe memories. What if he kidnaps more people and drives them to kill?

[He turns and leans towards Elle.]

What this is our punishment for the others finding freedom?

We can't think like that.

[Elle leans in a little as well.]

Like, maybe he was upset that the last group got away. Or maybe if you guys hadn't, he would have grabbed us anyways and just done it again. This-[She gestures around them.] -does not strike me as the actions of a guy who would just stops because his crazy evil scheme worked once.

I...[He slides a hand closer.] Hope you are right. If it has been done before, it can be done again.

I don't want to lose any more friends to this evil scheme. Not by murder, not by accident and not...by losing faith.

[Elle is suddenly very aware of their close proximity. Before this morning she was still pretty determined to win Warner back, but waking up this morning with his mocking voice ringing in her ears;

Yeah, you look real serious.

Elle leans over to rest her head on Angus' shoulder.]

If you got out before, we can do it again. We will do it.

[Hugs aren't unfamiliar to Angus - he hugs his friends often. It's how you remain close to your loved ones. Elle is here, though. She's been with him through these terrible three weeks even though they had just been strangers.

It's a welcome touch.]

Do you promise? Do you promise to keep faith, Elle?

[He puts an arm around her back, resting a hand on her arm, and grips it so he can never leave him.]

[Elle scoots closer to make the hug more comfortable, consequentially she is almost sitting in Angus' lap.]

I'll promise if you do. [She wraps her arms around his waist.]

[Angus lets go of a long, deep breath that needed to get out. Four deaths, four people he wanted to bring to their homes. A penguin man he vowed to help, and empress who had a country, a boy who had so much to live for, and a robot he tried to teach. He can’t let anyone else die. Not someone as kind as Elle.

He steadies her on his lap and holds her by rest his hand on hers.]

I swear by it.

[How long has it been since he relaxed like this? Not when he was busy in his studies or exploring space. Not when Zargothrax returned. Just him, left alone, with a dear companion.]

I don’t want to lose you as well.

[Elle's stomach does a little flip, something that hasn't happened since she first started dating Warner.]

I don't want to lose you either.

[She turns her head so it's buried in the crook of Angus' neck.]

[He wants to sit here for hours. No Wizard, no emergency, no dying. Here, life is simple. He doesn't want Elle to go away. To disappear like a dream.

Eventually, he arm starts getting tired, but thankfully he has an excuse.]

I got something from the machine that I think you may like.

[Elle can't remember the last time she's been this relaxed. When Angus speaks she peals herself away from him just enough to look up.]

Oh yeah? Any more creme brulee?

No, something better.

[He shimmies so that he's sitting pressed up against her and reaches into his bag, pulling out a law textbook, still in its wrapper.]

I know you are studying to be a lawyer. This might be of some use to you. And... [Well, they cuddled, nothing wrong with another gift.] A hair decoration.

[It's a pink flower! Her favorite color, he assumes.]

Oh! [Elle smiles, running a hand over the plastic-covered cover.] This is one of the ones on my first year list!

[She grins at the hairpiece as well. She has a few of them, but Angus doesn't need to know that.]

Can you help me put it in?

Hah, I'm not a beautician, but I will do my best.

[He hovers the pin over her hair while she gets into place.]

That's quiet a beautiful set of locks you have. Where would you prefer to put it?

[That makes Elle blush.]

If you can just pin back my bangs on this side. [She moves back, and off his lap, in order to give him room to maneuver.]

[He brushes his fingers against her forehead - she has such soft skin! - to pull her bangs back and slides the clip in.

Then again.

He's trying to get more of her hair out of her face.

There.] Good. That adds more color to your hair. [A grin.] The color suits you so well! Are all lawyers in your universe this well dressed?

[Elle giggles.]

Kinda. They dress 'professional', but most of them are in dark suits. It's so drab!

Dark colors can be impressive. The commander of the resistant army wears all black. With silver and gold.

[And with unicorn pins. So not exactly "professional."]
