[True to his word, on 6pm Thursday Spongebob has the party at the library set up and ready to go! It's filled with cute handmade decorations, snacks, and cobbled together games! Even with all the help he accepted, it's very clear that this was a passion project for Spongebob.

Taped around the library is a set of rules, and frankly there were a Lot of rule fliers around the library.]

RULES
1. Bring your own food and games! The more fun the better!
2. Stay as long as you want! We can make it a sleepover!
3. ABSOLUTELY NO MURDERING
4. Have fun! 💗💗💗💗💗

[Luckily for those who are aware of the cartoon, the party doesn't seem nearly as micromanaged as it could have been mostly because this party is more in a desperate attempt to keep everyone alive than anything else so have as much fun as you can before tomorrow!]

[Salieri is no chess master, but it is a popular game to be sure. So he'll slide into the seat across from Varian]

Good evening, gentlemen. [yes, that is both to Varian AND Ruddiger.] I'm assuming this board isn't set up just for show.

[Varian laughs, spreading his hands out palms up as if to better show off the chess board he's set up.]

Hardly. This is a declaration of war.

[His grin would almost look scary, if he wasn't clearly joking around.]

Are you up for a challenge, Sir?

[oh. The joking makes a smirk curve the corners of Salieri's mouth, and he leans an elbow on the table]

Certainly. By all means, I'll accept your challenge, good Sir.

Alright then! Black or white?

[All of the pieces are set up, so it's a matter of turning the board the right way.]

I'll take black.

[The board was conveniently turned the right way already for that, so LET THE HANDWAVED MOVES BEGIN because fuck if I know how to play chess]

I didn't know you could play chess, Salieri. Guess I'll be finding out first hand if you're any good, huh?

Of course. Chess is a game of the nobility, after all. [after Varian moves first, Salieri will start off the game easily, neither playing a strong offense or defense. He's just trying to get a feel for how Varian plays]

It would be a shame if I wasn't at least a decent player.

[Varian plays very logically. He's going to make his moves according to how Salieri does...maybe a touch aggressively? Mostly because he wants to impress him, or probably make it seem like he's better than he is at the game.]

I like to say I'm pretty good too. Not that I've had somebody to play in a while, but...you know. It's like riding a bike! Probably.

[in that case, Salieri's playing style will shift to a more defensive one, perhaps starting to lead Varian in a bit of a chase around the board for some pieces.]

Well...I suppose we'll see.

[and with that, he's going to take one of Varian's rooks :>]

Varian tries not to look surprised, even though he very much is uh]

Oooh so that's how it's gonna be, huh?

Of course it is. It is a game of maneuvering, after all.

[He's not. Varian purses his lips and starts playing a little more aggressively.]

You haven't seen every trick up my sleeve.

[oh, he's going easy on him, is he? Salieri can't help but smirk at that]

Well, in that case, I very much look forward to seeing said tricks. [he gestures the board] Your move, I believe.

[HIS MOVE...RIGHT...

He'll just...move a knight. Yeah, that's playing super aggressive there Varian.]

[great, he'll take one of Varian's bishops, then]

How long did you say you've known how to play chess again...?

Ah, well, if the age in the Yearbook is my true age...I suppose around 33 years. My brother taught me when I was about 8. [mildly, propping his chin on his hand]

Aw, see- you had somebody to play with all the time!

[That's totally why you're losing, Varian.]

Well, not all the time. My brother is significantly older than me...he didn't have much time for his younger brother. Besides, he was more often teaching me violin and music theory.

Oh...so he was a music prodigy, too.

He is certainly an accomplished violinist, to be sure. He learned from the best, and passed on what he learned to me while he was still living at home.
