Week Three

[Last week, some shit went down! Salieri's scene went off without a hitch, but the good mood didn't last. The first motive was a bit of a doozy, and yet it didn't even have anything to do with the eventual accidental death of Mumble Happyfeet! At least Sissi was already pretty much dating Death anyway, right? She's probably fine, wherever she is.

This week, new menus have been posted in the cafeteria. But, more importantly, it seems that other new information has emerged. Everyone wakes on Sunday with some new memories - or are they old ones? - floating around in their heads. Maybe there was something to your discussions of time travel after all. Maybe there was someting to the Wizard's knowledge of the future.

Regardless, you're still stuck in here. At least there's some new places to explore this week. Maybe you'll find something helpful.]

[Well, he's about to chuckle, make some snide comment, you know, their whole thing.

But then he actually looks at the thing and instead he narrows his eyes.]

That. You got... that, out of the vending machine.

[well, he can't argue with those results.]

In that case, I shall take it into consideration. [drawled a bit] Who knows? I might come up with something especially interesting.

[ It takes a long, long moment for Orpheus to catch on to what the SQUIP means, trying to piece things together and failing until something finally clicks into place. What had he said during the trial? Something about... deactivation? Orpheus still isn't sure what that means, but between that, and not being flesh, and Mumble and Spongebob's situation - ]

Oh. You're not supposed to be human either. [ Okay, that makes some sort of sense. ] But... you usually look like that?

[ A pill? Is it even alive? ]

Sorry! Sorry. [ Orpheus drops to the floor and reaches under the vending machine, trying to feel around for the knife. He's not really sure why it's such a problem, having managed to be busy with his own issues almost every time the details of Farrah's murder have come up, but panic is contagious. Thankfully it doesn't take him long to reach it, and he pulls it back out, turning it over in his hand. ]

Oh. It's just one of the prop ones! [ he calls out to Farrah, demonstrating by pressing the dull blade back into the handle with the palm of his hand. It makes a metallic springy noise and pops back out when he lets it go. ]

[Bruiser yips silently at one of the lizards, bouncing a couple of times in a way that could be playful.

Elle picks up two of the delicate French pastries, handing one to Angus.]

[For a brief, irrational moment, the SQUIP is tempted to grab Orpheus and hiss he's an idiot.

It passes. Instead its hand clenches in to a fist]

I usually am not seen. A SQUIP is not meant to be seen, or noticed, except by the user. Every single moment I have existed here - every interaction - is out of the scope of my programming.

[Even in peacetime, there's always the chance of a threat rearing it's head. So it pays to be vigilant and prepared. Naturally, Cassandra doesn't want to go for too long without practice either. After all, who knows when that Wizard is going to show his humongous head again.]

Angus. [Cassandra nods in greeting. She's dressed in light workout attire as well, light for easy movement.] Oh yeah, this little guy came out of the machine. He's been following me around all day - he's harmless.

[The "little guy" topples over from spinning around too much. Meanwhile, her eyes alight at the sight of what he's holding.]

[And then, abruptly, everything clicks in to place in that flesh processor called its brain. A realization, an understanding- and it straightens up.]

I need Mountain Dew.

...maybe. Doubt anyone would be the same, if they lived that long. Not a human, anyway.

[Maybe for a god, that's no time at all. But for a regular person? How could you possibly last through all of that and come out the same?]

He already sounds so...world-weary.

They're pretty new where I come from. I don't really know how they work? I guess they must hold the power without wires somehow. But either this or your vials would be really useful in case we need to do something in the dark at some point!

[ Forrrrr totally innocent reasons. ]

The gods are stubborn, but even they change. [ For better or worse. ]

It sounds like... Gerda was a journalist? And maybe he was, too. They must've seen so much, together. And I guess he saw too much of the bad in the world to bear.

[ ...Is she teasing him?? ]

[ Oh, no. ]

Farrah... What happened?

What?

[ None of that made much of any sense to Orpheus, who mostly just seems worried and a little afraid, though whether it's for himself or the SQUIP or both is unclear. ]

We can't get outside. I don't know if we can get any dew in here, much less from a mountain. [ Orpheus may be assuming that the SQUIP is trying to cast some kind of spell here, but the world outside looks pretty darn flat and non-mountainous. ]

Oh - that's a lot of missing time.

[They've talked about it, of course, and some folks were definitely missing a lot more. But that's a fair amount, especially when the Balladeer's not sure how much he might be missing at all.]

[ She piles the rope back on top of the bucket, so it's harder to see. ]

I won't let it outta my sight, okay? And I'm not gonna stab anyone. Not a person.

[She draws her knees to her chest, and hugs them. It doesn't get easier, the more people she tells. It's still so fresh.]

I was in the bathroom, trying to pull myself together-- and then... my captain came in. And I was trying to tell her I was sorry, but she... I don't know if she didn't hear me, or if she just didn't care.

I think Benjamin says he's missing like 17 years. I can't imagine what that's like. His daughter's all grown up now!

Right. [She sharply inhales-- steadying her breath. She closes her eyes tightly, and counts in her own head-- after five seconds, she opens them again, and peers around her own hand shield. Yeah, okay, it is harder to see.]

Sorry. I'm still real fucking touchy about knives. And this thing-- [She glares at the vending machine.] Is full of them.

[disharmonizes]

No. Well, she has some butterflies in her cottage, but...

It's sort of a... how to put it. Magical aesthetic sort of thing? They represent her talent.

Maybe he was right. Not about all of it - maybe not even most - but maybe the both of them could've used a break. It's not easy being around stuff like that all the time.

[And he, for his part, only had to deal with a few shitty violent individuals.]

God, yeah! Did you see that picture of her? She was so small!

[She's headed back with the rogue lizard when he calls back out to her--- and she almost yells again.

Deep breaths, Farrah. Farrah sucks in a long breath of air, holding the lizard protectively against her chest, then steps forward and holds it out to him in cupped hands.]

Here. This lil buddy's yours, right? [A beat. Then.] Sorry-- I'm a little---

[The little creature at Cass's feet - there's only one, thank goodness - is plenty interested in what Cassandra's doing, but it seems just as curious about... everything else.

And then it lays eyes on the SQUIP.

[ Peregrine's sorting through her things, fully expecting Orpheus to just leave. When he doesn't... ]

Huh? Uhh, yeah, knock yourself out. You recognize it.
