Week Three

[Last week, some shit went down! Salieri's scene went off without a hitch, but the good mood didn't last. The first motive was a bit of a doozy, and yet it didn't even have anything to do with the eventual accidental death of Mumble Happyfeet! At least Sissi was already pretty much dating Death anyway, right? She's probably fine, wherever she is.

This week, new menus have been posted in the cafeteria. But, more importantly, it seems that other new information has emerged. Everyone wakes on Sunday with some new memories - or are they old ones? - floating around in their heads. Maybe there was something to your discussions of time travel after all. Maybe there was someting to the Wizard's knowledge of the future.

Regardless, you're still stuck in here. At least there's some new places to explore this week. Maybe you'll find something helpful.]

Right! I'm sure between all of us we can figure something out. Now that we know about each other, it should be easier for us to find each other again, whether it's with Lord Discord's help or the gods of my world or some other way, shouldn't it?

[Salieri allows himself an annoyed snort, and a roll of his eyes]

...I spoke for a composer in the Emperor's presence, enough that his Majesty chose to commission him for an opera. But when the Steward Rosenberg and I went to visit the rehearsal, we found it in absolute disarray and disorganization. And when confronted, the man had the gal to mock the both of us for it. [SO. ANNOYED.]

[Salieri blinks again as Benjamin puts that music up on the piano, not even having noticed it had fallen]

...I...perhaps? [he catches his bottom lip on his teeth briefly] But...I'm close, I think? So very close, but it just...the melody escapes me...

[he frowns at the music in front of him]

[Salieri almost moves to correct her, but when she corrects herself, he looks even more pleased.]

That's it exactly. So, now you can play any major scale starting from whichever note you want.

[he shakes his head in the negative. What tf is this thing exactly]

Really? That does sound like an exciting time. [he pauses a moment, tilting his head] I suppose it's not so shocking that they're so busy, then.

It is! I don't get to visit the cities often to see it firsthand? But sometimes we get okay reception on the radio at the bar, and sometimes musicians and other artists come through town and teach me what they know.

[ Fond memories! ]

The Muses are always busy, but now especially. It's... um. It's why I'm so grateful for the time mom did spend with me, before she went back to work.

[ He tries very hard to maintain his smile and positive demeanor through that last sentence, and does not succeed. ]

[Benjamin seems to chew that over for a minute or so.]

You know, speaking as a father... I think I'd personally be delighted, if my daughter outgrew my every expectation for her.

[He gives the Balladeer a smile.]

Besides, you're a charming man to talk to, Bal. There's no way he wouldn't be over the moon.

[His eyebrows arch up.]

Ah, see I knew you were a sharp young lady.

[He grins, pleased with his joke.]

I can tell you are quite passionate about fashion.

[Yeah what the fuck is a copyright, but 'fashion law' is... well, law in general is impenetrable to him, but laws about fashion especially so. Surely the United States of the future doesn't have sumptuary laws...

Oh well. She's excited, and that's what counts. :)]

But you have a while yet to choose, I'm sure.

I don't really know. Mister Hermes might, and he's the one I think could probably move between worlds the most easily. He likes me, but it would be a big favor to ask. I think it'd be worth it, if it meant not having to say goodbye to all of you forever, though.

Right. We can worry about how we'll see each other again once we know more about how we got here and how to get out.

[ She nods. ]

[The Balladeer smiles crookedly, pleased and a little embarrassed all at once.]

Thanks. That means a lot. I mean - maybe it doesn't matter, I'm not exactly his greatest work character-wise - but it's nice to think he might be happy with me.

Don't worry, we don't exactly have them either.

[Varian smooths a hand over the car's body as he speaks.]

It's sort of like...a metal carriage? That's the best way I can describe it. It's automatic too, runs on its own power. Gasoline, according to the others.

Well, perhaps I'm biased, as your friend. But if your competition is a crew of murderers and fairy tale characters, then you may be higher in the running than you think.

Oh - no, this is actually really good! There's like a billion recurring musical motifs, and the characters are pretty interesting. There's a narrator in it too, just like me...but they killed him.

[Which...gives the Balladeer some thoughts, certainly. Some none too pleasant ones. But, nonetheless.]
