Week Two

[Last week, no murder happened! Instead, a lot of students started work on Salieri's school play, which sounds pretty cool even though it's gonna be short, several people destroyed Bigfoot and got a few mysterious clues, and Orpheus started a fire in the kitchen! All in all, not a bad first week!

Though some people might have gone to talk to Hester, she hasn't made any more public announcements. There's some new papers posted up around the cafeteria, but it looks like it's just your upcoming lunch schedule. Seems like nothing's driving you towards Rule Five except, perhaps, all of the kidnapping and how criminally boring some of you are finding the school. Maybe the Balladeer is right, and you really can just wait this out? Only time will tell!]

Usually, yeah, but...I don't know how you do something like that with stage effects.

[Also he's pretty sure most of that wouldn't be visible from the house - you know, if we're going practical here.]

...I don't know either. [he frowns] There must be some way these have been staged, though...isn't there?

Some...some of the kids were talking about faking photos, but I don't know...how you do that...

...admittedly, I wouldn't know how to go about doing it either. However, mine seems to be fabricated, considering it directly contradicts some things Mademoiselle Maya has told me.

Oh - really?

[That could be great news, actually!]

Indeed. [he'll reach into his jacket, then, and pull out his own picture, setting it down for the Balladeer to see.]

My own picture shows a future that has well forgotten my name. However, Mademoiselle Maya not only has heard of me, but has studied my work. She recognized what I was composing last week even before I had finished it.

Oh. That's great - she told me she studied that sort of thing.

[The Balladeer makes absolutely nothing of the fact that he hasn't heard of Salieri himself. He's modern musical theatre, not opera.]

I'm pretty sure she's from after my time, too. Whatever that means.

[Salieri chuckles a bit at that] I believe she's far after my time as well.

However, that is my point. If my photo is clearly fabricated in an attempt to scare me, why not the others?

[It also seems rather easier to fake a list without a name on it than a whole-ass splattered corpse. But he doesn't really feel the need to say so out loud.]

Maybe you're right. I mean, I - I've had some close calls before, but I don't think I would get hurt in my new show.

Considering the purpose of your new show is to keep people from dying in a place like this...

You think that's better or worse?

...better, I think. If that's the goal, then it casts some doubt on your picture, as well as speaks highly of the person running it.
