Week Two

[Last week, no murder happened! Instead, a lot of students started work on Salieri's school play, which sounds pretty cool even though it's gonna be short, several people destroyed Bigfoot and got a few mysterious clues, and Orpheus started a fire in the kitchen! All in all, not a bad first week!

Though some people might have gone to talk to Hester, she hasn't made any more public announcements. There's some new papers posted up around the cafeteria, but it looks like it's just your upcoming lunch schedule. Seems like nothing's driving you towards Rule Five except, perhaps, all of the kidnapping and how criminally boring some of you are finding the school. Maybe the Balladeer is right, and you really can just wait this out? Only time will tell!]

Close is good enough. I've never actually been out that way, and...Whitetail's small. Like, nine hundred people small.

[ She snorts and throws him a half-shrug. ] Laugh it up, city boy. Anyway, most people in Whitetail don't know this stuff. They don't bother to learn.

Really? I kinda figured you all just had a really intense version of Scouts that involved learning how to skin a deer or something. Every kid in your town just knows how to make a candle for animal fat.

[Scouts, but for the actual fucking woods.]

Please, I wish. The Forest Service just teaches fourth-graders how to sit in the woods and cry for help. If like, most of the kids in my school were out there, they would have no idea what to do.

[ The somewhat lighthearted tone of the conversation dips there, as the smile Peregrine wears, inspired from getting to talk about something she's passionate about, starts to fade. ]

That's why I'm learning. I'm not gonna one of 'em.

I've never really found my thing, you know? [He shrugs.] Swimming, baseball, smart people shit like math, dance, fencing... I'm okay at all of it except math. None of it's really for me.
