Week Two

[Last week, no murder happened! Instead, a lot of students started work on Salieri's school play, which sounds pretty cool even though it's gonna be short, several people destroyed Bigfoot and got a few mysterious clues, and Orpheus started a fire in the kitchen! All in all, not a bad first week!

Though some people might have gone to talk to Hester, she hasn't made any more public announcements. There's some new papers posted up around the cafeteria, but it looks like it's just your upcoming lunch schedule. Seems like nothing's driving you towards Rule Five except, perhaps, all of the kidnapping and how criminally boring some of you are finding the school. Maybe the Balladeer is right, and you really can just wait this out? Only time will tell!]

[ Friends. Something about that makes Peregrine frown, slightly. ]

I think, way he talks, he's never had any friends.

[ Orpheus shakes his head. ]

It sounds like the other, um. Characters in his show don't like him very much. [ To put it mildly. ] And he says he can talk to the audience a bit, but I doubt they talk back? Which makes it all the more important that we be there for him now.

...Alone. It's what he's used to. Being alone.

Mm-hmm. [ Orpheus's brow furrows a bit with worry. ] Do you think... when we get out of here - he'll have to go back to that life? Do you think that's what he'd want to do?

[ That's... ]

He's got a new show he was preparing for. Maybe...it'd make him a little less that. [ Does he want— ] I just know it's on his mind.

I'll try talking to him about it. He seems to love the good parts of what he does? But it sounds like there's... a lot of bad to it too. I don't know. Maybe it's less bad and more different, but it seems like it'd be worth talking him through it. Letting him know that he can do more, if he wants to.

[ Peregrine nods in agreement. ] There's so much he's never done or doesn't know, it's like... I just want him to try it.

He's gotten to taste Spongebob's cooking, at least. That's something! I... don't think he really ate real food, before.

[ Which is a little existentially dreadful. ]

There's only so much to do in a place like this, though. But... maybe when we get out of here, one of us could take him with us? If he wants to go. He might want to go back to his friend instead, but. Maybe we should offer him the option.

[ Never even eaten real food? Peregrine scowls lightly. What kind of life did the Balladeer have before? ]

...There's nothing to do in Whitetail. He wouldn't wanna go there. But...there's lots of cool places, it sounds like.

The town where I live isn't really that exciting either. But I've thought about looking for somewhere else to live with Eurydice, eventually. After the seasons stop being all wrong. He'd probably like some of the big cities back home?

[ Honestly the Balladeer would fit right in with some of the theater district eccentrics Mister Hermes is friends with, in Orpheus's opinion. ]

But that's a big decision, and it probably won't come up for a while? I'll ask him about it though.

[ That assertion, that it wouldn't come up for awhile, that bothers her a little. She has to get out of here, after all. But... ]

...Yeah, that's a good idea. Probably better coming from you, anyway, you know? Someone closer to his...uhhh, assumed age.

[ Orpheus looks a little puzzled about that, the negative implications of a teenage girl turning up after being kidnapped for multiple weeks with a strange grown man in tow entirely failing to occur to him. But he nods along anyway. ]

Right. If I find him today, I'll see about bringing it up? But on that note, I should probably go. Eurydice is waiting for me.

Oh! Right, yeah, no, don't keep her waiting. [ ...Ha.

Peregrine's stomach turns a little at that. She hides how uncomfortable it makes her. ]
