Week Two

[Last week, no murder happened! Instead, a lot of students started work on Salieri's school play, which sounds pretty cool even though it's gonna be short, several people destroyed Bigfoot and got a few mysterious clues, and Orpheus started a fire in the kitchen! All in all, not a bad first week!

Though some people might have gone to talk to Hester, she hasn't made any more public announcements. There's some new papers posted up around the cafeteria, but it looks like it's just your upcoming lunch schedule. Seems like nothing's driving you towards Rule Five except, perhaps, all of the kidnapping and how criminally boring some of you are finding the school. Maybe the Balladeer is right, and you really can just wait this out? Only time will tell!]

Maybe. I'll test it. It can't be too sharp, 'cause then it'd cut into the hide. [ She almost touches the fleshy bits but then pauses. ] ...And gloves. I'll need gloves. Costume shop'll have somethin'.

[ Really, the more she talks, the more it seems she's more talking to herself than Salieri. ]

[ For the first time since his inquiry about her dedication, Peregrine gives Salieri her full attention. ]

What? Oh, nah. Learning how to do this without proper tools is also part of my training. [ A beat. ] Well, maybe in carrying some of this other stuff back to the dorm? I don't wanna ball up the hide.

[violentenvies]

[honestly, that is a far better option than touching that hide. So he'll nod, starting to gather some things up. The straight razor gives him a bit of pause, but he gathers it up with what else he can gather. Though, considering most of them are small things, he manages to get pretty much all of it, if he drapes the clothes over one arm and tucks the plush under another]

Ah...where would you like this, then?

Just dump it in the trunk.

[ She says as they walk, herself at a swift, swift pace. Can't waste time, after all.

When they get there, Peregrine sets the deer skin down — fleshy side up, unfortunately — on her bed, so she can pull open the chest. ]

I'll sort through it all later.

[in that case he will just...dump it all in the trunk once she opens it, definitely avoiding look at the fleshy side of that deer skin ew.]

Ah, I did want to ask...the last time we spoke, you were looking for a way of escape, were you not? Have you made any progress on such a thing?

[comeandfindme]

[ Her lips thin. ]

Uh... No. Not yet. I'll have to keep looking.

[violentenvies]

[he nods at that]

Might I ask what you've discovered so far?

...A whole lot of nothing.

[ She tries but can't really hide how ashamed she sounds. ]

[yeah he'll pick up on that]

So if you didn't find a method of escape, what other observations were you able to make?

Um, well... [ It's like an exam. So she takes a breath and thinks. ] ...It seems like a really, really fancy prep school. Not really...specialized in anything. But the gym, the...the like, props room? [ she means the scene shop ] Those places are huge. But...

[ She clicks her tongue. ] ...It's weird? What I keep thinking is, if there's a place for costumes and sets...where's the theater? Wouldn't that be close by? Maybe it's nothing. But...if this place is soooo set on us being in a show, why isn't the main attraction here?

[violentenvies]

[Salieri listens, considering her explanation and the information she's been able to glean.]

That is a very important question indeed. The stage in the Cafeteria is functional, but certainly not the kind that would necessitate how extensive they are.

Do you think it means we have yet to discover the main attraction?

[comeandfindme]

I'm sure of it. Especially considering what Hester dragged out yesterday.

Besides. A place like this would have a real theater, not just some dinky pull-out.

They would certainly have the funds to do so. Equipment like in those areas is certainly not inexpensive.

...do you think if perhaps we can locate the theater, it will provide us with a possible exit?

[comeandfindme]

[ She hesitates. ]

I don't know. It's a theory, but... I wouldn't put all my eggs in that basket.

[violentenvies]

[he nods in agreement to that]

Mark it as a possible theory but keep looking, then. [he blows out a huff] And the fact that our hosts have not been forthcoming certainly does not make it easier.

...They're not gonna tell us anything. We gotta find it out ourselves.

[violentenvies]

True enough. And who's to say that whatever they told us would be truthful in any measure.

[he sounds a bit frustrated, though he arches an eyebrow at her]

If perhaps we could somehow organize ourselves to search certain areas, perhaps we could discover more, however...we're a bit like herding cats sometimes, I believe.

[ okay THANK YOU someone agrees with her re: questioning— ]

What we need is someone who everyone'll listen to. But...I dunno if that's possible with all the...conflicting personalities.

[violentenvies]

Indeed. [there's a slight frown on his face]

We need someone who people not only listen to, but can organize and delegate. If not, we'll never be able to get anything done.

...You and Cass have been calling the meetings. One of you?

[violentenvies]

[he's thoughtful at that, considering]

True...the last one dissolved into a little bit of chaos, but at least we did manage to share a fair bit of information.

Perhaps, if it could be more specifically organized...[he trails off again, momentarily] More direction might help.

Well, if anyone could do it. [ She lightly shrugs. ] I know it sure ain't gonna be me. No one's gonna listen to a kid, whoever they are.

...speaking of, Mademoiselle Peregrine...considering that, er, skin, do you have much experience with these sorts of things?

Yeah… I’ve spent the last year and a half learning how to be self-sufficient. Live off the land if I have to. Why?
